Format alamat SegWit

1. Diawali dengan angka 3 (P2SH SegWit)
Kelebihan : Bisa dikenali oleh semua wallet/exchange
Kekurangan : Ukuran transaksi sedikit lebih besar dibandingkan Bech32

2. Diawali dengan kata bc1 (Bech32/Native SegWit)
Kelebihan : Ukuran transaksi paling kecil dibandingkan lainnya

2922  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet for newbies or small bitcoiners on: September 25, 2018, 06:14:17 PM
Good initiative even though majority of newcomers don't know or care about wallet that they use, they even don't care if they use centralized wallet. My suggestion is promoting the main advantage of SegWit (that anyone would see) which is lower transaction fees (because it has lower transaction size/weight).

For desktop i agree Electrum is overall best-wallet. User can have full control while remain user-friendly, Electrum even support Tor (assuming you've set up Tor connection at default port). But i'm not sure about their Android wallet since it's crap compared to their desktop wallet.
I'd recommend Samourai Wallet which have very rich useful features/configuration even compared with desktop wallet. Especially their Stonewall features, even though i don't how secure/private is it in reality. However, it's still on alpha version.

P.S. Development & Technical Discussion section isn't suitable since you plan to help newcomers.

Yeah , I heard about it by one of mine friend but I was confused due to segwit name with wallet .
Because I was thinking that segwit was fork name in Bitcoin , so I am getting either wrong information or not proper information .
Since  I heard about green addresses , may be these are same type of wallet starting with prefix 3
Let me tell that I am right or not?

There are 2 types of SegWit address starts with prefix 3 and bc1. Also, SegWit is an upgrade/improvement for Bitcoin.
2923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to take proper backup on: September 25, 2018, 12:19:19 PM
All balances, transactions and pending transactions are "stored" on all bitcoin nodes so you don't need to worry about that.

So all you need to backup is all of wallet.dat that you have and make sure your server is secure (such as strict firewall rules and add password to your RPC) and you place the backup on safe place.
You might want to backup whole blockchain and UTXO DB (blocks and chainstate folder) just in case when your storage drive is broken, so you can sync faster (and thus have less downtime).
2924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: BTC address given, but BCH funds sent on: September 24, 2018, 05:25:55 AM
- Do BTC and BCH private keys do indeed translate to the same Address?

Yes and No, because :
1. BTC and BCH use older/legacy address format (starting with 1 and 3)
2. BTC and BCH now have their own new address format (starting with bc1 and q...)

But since blockchair shows both coins (meaning you use older/legacy address format), the answer is Yes in your case.

- If so, is there a better way to swipe / import / recover the funds from a BCH private key?

No idea, i only can suggest use another wallet such as Electron Cash, Bitcoin ABC or Bitcoin Unlimited.

- Am I getting it completely wrong, or is the above just an issue with the specific wallet(BTC.com)?

Your steps should be right, so IMO there's an issue with BTC.com wallet.

P.S. if you don't mind post that address, that would make identifying process easier.
2925  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk need AI to control comments? on: September 23, 2018, 09:08:15 AM
AI has become buzzword and people think AI would solve anything, while in fact AI/ML need to be trained with lots of accurate data and lots of computational resources. Besides, detect and delete post with less than 75 characters only require simple programming logic such as if (this.length < 75) this.delete Tongue
Besides, there's weak correlation between character length and post quality.

What this forum need are less signature features for lower ranked member, higher merit requirement, forbid all bounty campaign or remove signature.
2926  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Create a specific address (not vanity address) on: September 22, 2018, 03:39:23 PM
Thanks.

So what is stopping someone from using brute force to generate billions of addresses and checking them against for balances and storing keys for dumping later?

Basically because there's 2^160 possible address while AFAIK super computer only can generate about 2^32 address/second which means time needed for address collusion/bruteforce is 2^(160-32) seconds. CMIIW.

I can generate the adresses on a separate chain.

The only way to know valid address that isn't exist on blockchain is by generate the address

How? AFAIK you don't need blockchain to generate address, all you need is script/software which contain proper CSPRNG, base58 encoder/decoder and collections of cryptographic hash/signature (ECDSA, RIPEMD-160, SHA-256, etc) library.
2927  Other / Meta / Re: THEME FOR THEYMOS on: September 21, 2018, 02:41:28 PM
The system of merit doesn't work. My example.

By design, rewarding the user with merit occurs when it will be useful for the forum and all cryptocommunity as a whole. A good comment or an interesting topic - and other users will gratuitously appreciate the efforts of such a user. It doesn't work! Where money keeps rolling, there is no place for philanthropy. Merits don't give simply just like that. Merits are selling.

Yes, you must write a good comment or create a useful post. But tentatively you must agree with the seller of merits, that he "appreciates" your efforts. Otherwise, your topic will drown in the world of spam BTT. You’ll say that's not so? Well, let's play this game.

Here's an example of my topic, that I created specifically for this experiment.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5027519.msg45 .. - English forum

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5025367.msg45 .. - Russian forum

If after this article they aren't removed, you will see them. The topic in the Russian thread was listlessly supported. Apparently, it’s difficult for the philistine, who came to do the signature, but he's not using his head for thinking. The topic in the English version simply drowned without the attention of society.

The system of merit works. My example.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4686439.msg42288508#msg42288508
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5029325.msg45717195#msg45717195
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4980960.msg44928914#msg44928914

You only look at few sections, the system works very well on most section.

Or users have nothing to say?

Users already do that on another thread, time to DYOR.

Edit : looks like OP intentionally ignore my post, even though he respond to all posts above and below me. Not surprising though.
2928  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's deMerit source application on: September 20, 2018, 05:43:35 PM
I get your idea, but this could be abused easily/misused in many ways. Increasing merit requirement for some ranks, limiting signature features for few ranks and permanent ban for obvious merit abuse are far better and should be easier to be implemented.
Report button on merit page and hidden list of trusted member (which only can be seen by moderator/admin when see reports) should be better.
2929  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Looking for an analyzer tool for blockchain on: September 20, 2018, 01:16:11 PM
There are some free or/and open-source blockchain analyzer tool/software, but AFAIK most of them don't have complex feature/analysis. Search blockchain analyzer tool -news on Google should give what you need.
https://github.com/citp/BlockSci looks like is the most popular open-source block analyzer

Don't bother reinvent the wheel unless you're not satisfied with/can't find analysis method you want
2930  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin core client blocked on my network on: September 20, 2018, 11:42:29 AM
There are few options including :
1. Change bitcoin default open port. Your ISP might block default Bitcoin Core port, whether it's intentional or not[a]
2. Make sure your Bitcoin Core comes from legitimate source
3. Check if your PC's firewall block connection made by Bitcoin Core or any software outside it's whitelist

But using VPN (or other forms of secure connection) is more convenient and could protect your privacy/anonymity.

2931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I want to use mobile data for Bitcoin related web pages on: September 18, 2018, 10:18:36 AM
It's impossible since your idea requiring software/extension access to access current page that Google Chrome for Android access while there's no extension or source code for google chrome. Even if it's exist, it's annoying to switch between mobile and wi-fi connection anytime when you access Bitcoin related website.
Using proxy/VPN/Tor is easier and far more convenient and you could have better privacy/security with proper configuration.

Besides, what basis that makes you think using mobile data is safer Huh
2932  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are Blocks in blockchain are indexed ? on: September 18, 2018, 04:04:30 AM
Bitcoin core (other client might do things differently) build and use UTXO database which stored on storage (not RAM) which makes transaction verification is faster. The UTXO database updated every time node receive transaction/block or create and broadcast transaction.
Besides, AFAIK most transaction can be verified in hundred millisecond.

There's no way any developer would think scan entire database just to get a data. Indexing, database balancing, sorting or/and separate database for linking obviously used in here.

If you're curious with UTXO size/count, you can check https://statoshi.info/dashboard/db/unspent-transaction-output-set
2933  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Blockchain based online portal on: September 10, 2018, 02:16:38 PM
You don't need blockchain in this case, another P2P method such as BitTorrent or IPFS protocol with encryption should work just fine. Besides, blockchain is inefficient for such things mainly due to potential spam and scaling problem (unless you don't care people should run full nodes at low cost).

Alternatively you could use Steemit and Filecoin which already exist rather than make another one or see this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4554177.0) why blockchain is inefficient for such things
2934  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Data history for mined blocks on: September 07, 2018, 01:04:30 PM
This might be crazy idea, but you could try using Bitcoin API JSON-RPC and your own script to get coinbase text which pool usually use to mark it's mined block.
getblockhash, getblock true and getrawtransaction {true/false} with script should able to do the trick.

You can try https://bitcoinstrings.com/, but it's totally converted to text and the blocks' data aren't displayed.
OP_return data were translated too, just ignore them or highlight all the "Mined by" lines then search from other source about which blocks are included in that particular blkXXXXX.dat number.
Sort it out, and you might find what you need.

However, the site's updates were not that frequent (about daily to four times a week)

I was going to mention that website, but there's no info of the block height and it's useless for OP unless he know about how Bitcoin Core manages it's blocks/leveldb and have full copy of blockchain/run full nodes.
2935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Possible bug in decoderawtransaction in 16.02? on: September 06, 2018, 12:04:20 PM
Interesting found, i checked this possible bug/problem with Bitcoin Core 0.16.2 (txindex disabled, so i just try decoderawtransaction) and few explorer/services with getrawtransaction/decoderawtransaction show different result.

Ok, i found some one with the same problem and the explanation:

Quote
That transaction is a witness transaction, but 0.14.2 is interpreting it as non-witness, which is why the hash is the same as the txid and there are no inputs. 0.15.0 interprets it fine.

Please take a look to https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/11157 'Fail to decode transaction correctly.'
That's referring to bitcoin core before 0.15.0. As I've posted multiple times now that's not the case for me. So the original question remains why this is (still) happening with 0.16.02?

Anyone who can do this simple test with running the latest version of bitcoin core (0.16.02) and list their result:
Code:
bitcoin-cli getrawtransaction 00b09964bf7080b065e3dbc5ff91b778283d5f513008daea3d04d8ff9d5844b4

And then:
bitcoin-cli decoderawtransaction <output from previous getrawtransaction>

I wonder if that happens because you were using/running older Bitcoin Core which don't recognize witness transaction and then you use newer client, but the client never rescan/ask for witness data to other nodes?

Gonna try it after reindexing is done.
2936  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mining reward "stealing" attack on: September 05, 2018, 03:55:14 AM
Aside from reason above member mentioned, it's impossible since :
1. Some Bitcoin client/nodes have feature called Checkpoint (basically stored hash of block at certain height) which is used to prevent someone re-write Bitcoin history by re-mine/re-doing PoW all block with low hashrate and manipulate each timestamp.
2. You still need to find way to make existing nodes to accept your block with far lower block height or older timestamp. Even SPV/light nodes will reject (or confused) your block since block header they store and your block header is different.

Additionally, even if you could overcome the problem somehow, people surely will notice and panic which lead to Bitcoin price crashing and you just wasting your time, money and energy Roll Eyes
2937  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Total Number of full nodes operating. Less than 10k. on: September 02, 2018, 06:42:07 PM
Only those who've small bitcoin technical knowledge and care about decentralization or privacy/anonymity when using SPV wallet who would run full nodes.
Even though you could use low-end/barebone devices to run Bitcoin full nodes since Bitcoiner/Bitcoin developer care about anyone can run full nodes with low cost, majority don't want to do it because they think they don't earn anything and only wasting their money by doing it.

The only way to increase the number are by encourage merchants with high volume to run full nodes and make people realize/remember why decentralization (specifically run full nodes in this case) matters.

Unfortunately, I had to give up, because my old 2010 notebook could not handle 200Gb of space.
I would have to delete some personal stuff, and as it was just and experiment, it was easier to just give up the idea.

HDD is cheap today and you can run both OS and full nodes with a HDD, so i suggest you to try run full nodes if you want buy another HDD.
2938  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A new consensus that promises high levels of security (PoH) on: August 28, 2018, 10:34:54 AM
Bitcoin and most cryptocurrency supposed to be trustless and use consensus method which enable trustless, so IMO this consensus isn't practical at all. Why don't we back using fiat/bank if high degree of trust is required in here.
I also check their explanation (https://www.geeq.io/the-most-secure-blockchain) and they vaguely explain the PoH which don't help at all.

I agree on your points. However, in PoW hasing power is concentrating to 1-2 maximum 3 mining pools so in my opinion this dosn't make them "honest" 100%. Of course, there is a possibility to do a fork if they attack the chain, but wouldn't that affect the reputation of the PoW consensus?

That also applies to most consensus method, but in PoW and some kind PoS, there's punishment/wasting resource such as big amount of staked coins taken away or require million USD for ASIC/electricity when someone attempt to attack network.

As for "who decides who is honest or dishonest", the answer is "Users". People who would be affected by a wrong validation, in other words.

Just with this sentence, there are few critical problem such as :
1. How do they find out whether the user is real or don't have multiple votes/identity within the network?
2. Even if assuming they magically find way to solve 1st problem, people can be bribed, manipulated or have their device hacked to manipulate the vote.
2939  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Block time on: August 23, 2018, 06:23:08 AM
The reason I do this discussion is that people dont want to hear about other crypto for payment. I dont understand

Then you, merchant, payment processor or payment gateway should consider use/accept zero-confirmation, it's not too risky if it's for small payment and any explorer/nodes don't detect double-spend attempt (with sufficient fee obviously).
CPFP also help if you want to use your bitcoin immediately.

Someone with good statics knowlege could calculate how average the block time is really. So normally it should be a Gauss normal distribution with the maximum at 10 mins. But it is not, cause e.g. miners are activated or deactivated and difficulty can not react. Look how many blocks are found exactly 10 mins after the last one or even 11 or 9 min.
There is no maximum on the time between blocks, so there is no maximum at 10 minutes. The distribution time between blocks is not a normal distribution. Rather it is poisson with the true mean at ~9.7 minutes. The difficulty adjusts to make it 10 minutes, but new hardware coming online pulls the time down. Since it is poisson, the time can vary a lot, from 0 minutes to several hours, there is no maximum at 10 minutes.
The true mean for bitcoin since genesis block up to now, is ~9.4 minutes last time I calculated this divergence. How did you get 9.7?

AFAIK that was mean in few years ago. My rough calculation also show 9.4 minutes mean time.
2940  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make sure that new dapps are not scams? on: August 23, 2018, 05:57:01 AM
If it's really dapp, then it means the source code is available on the blockchain (which anyone can access easily) and anyone can read/audit the code to make sure whether the dapp is scam, buggy or work as expected.

But if you don't have such knowledge, then all you can do are :
1. Check review/comment from people who've used the dapp
2. Check whether someone have review/audit the code and it's result
3. Use website such as https://dappradar.com/ which usually only list proper/not scam dapp
