It's possible with VeraCrypt, besides the decryption process is quite fast. Here's a guide, https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6169/use-truecrypt-to-secure-your-data/.

Are you sure its fast? I didn't do research about it so i can't blabla like i do. Can you please tell me what kind of encryption they use? They maybe have a very modern processor to use that software. And it depends on the algorithm/encryption trick that they use. Can you provide more details for it?

It's fast because it only encrypt/decrypt file which need to be read/written. I tried it with SSD once and can't notice the difference, unless i run 3D application ir copy lots of files. However, if you use HDD and use it to boot the OS, you'll notice your computer run slower.

But i wouldn't use encryption if you're regular user, since recovering the file will be far more difficult.

What's the point of removing drive letter?

Removing the hard disk character in the case of dual boot only, it makes the only visible volume that which includes the Windows (it cannot be removed at all). Its purpose is to secure windows volume from piracy from the other volume that contains insecure Windows.

I get the point and it's useful assuming dangerous application rely on drive letter, but it's possible to access the drive directly (with admin privilege) without drive latter.

you better use drive encryption (such as LUKS).

Using this will not cause Windows to boot. Simply because the files will be encrypted and it is not programmed to boot from it. This will require a new boot system to be programmed that will completely decrypt Windows files (more than 10 gigabytes) every booting.

It's possible with VeraCrypt, besides the decryption process is quite fast. Here's a guide, https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6169/use-truecrypt-to-secure-your-data/.

  • Do not use Public or Home WiFi networks! It can be tracked and hacked using free tools.

IMO avoiding Home's WiFi is too much, unless you let guest use it or you can't trust your family.

New device? Just reflashing the OS is enough which almost removes 99.999%

It would be ok if you will wipe the whole hard disk, and dual boot too, and in the case its better to deactivate letters of each os drivers in the other one.

What's the point of removing drive letter? If you don't want windows and windows application access the drive, you better use drive encryption (such as LUKS).
2184  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to create a bitcoin mixer on: May 06, 2021, 09:43:22 AM
If you need tutorial, i doubt you'll create mixer which actually protect Bitcoin's privacy.

It's not good guide, since it encourage 3rd party API which obviously track API request.

No way he would answer all this. He doesn't need to.
Of course he doesn't need to, but usually when people give interviews like this (and there are plenty of them), the interviewee doesn't have a gun to his head.

True, but it enables peer pressure (especially if many people also wish same thing).

2187  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Questions] Running my own electrum server on: May 03, 2021, 09:08:45 AM
Sorry, but I hadn't noticed that the DAEMON_URL was expecting two input fields (username and password). Once I entered it correctly, it started the server.

I'd like to mention that you can change value of other parameter (such as where do you store electrumx file) or add additional environment parameter.

  • Before exposing it to the internet, I'd like to firstly try it on LAN. It seems that with the way you've described me, it works only on localhost. Do I simply change the DAEMON_URL from localhost to 192.168.x.x?
  • Can you explain a little further the last one you mentioned (container)? I don't have the electrumx files on my computer. Where does it execute the commands and from what files? Github?
  • How do I change the banner/donation address? I've created a file called "DONATION_ADDRESS" containing a legacy address as being said on electrumx's documentation, but it doesn't seem to read it.

1. AFAIK yes.
2. You should search what is docker and how docker works. Here's an article i found https://devopscube.com/what-is-docker/.
3. You need to add another parameter when run electrumx

Code:
-e DONATION_ADDRESS=YOUR_BITCOIN_ADDRESS

P.S. Those are good question, but unfortunately i'm still newbie when using Docker.

2189  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Questions] Running my own electrum server on: April 30, 2021, 09:42:58 AM
So, I just switched to EPS. I didn't fix electrumx. I may formulated it wrongly, but "fixed" goes to my main purpose, which is running electrum without trusting anyone. I achieved it, thank you for your help.  Smiley

As long as you accomplish your goal Roll Eyes

But if you want to use electrumx to make Electrum server which is publicly accessible, you can consider,
1. Easy installer, https://github.com/bauerj/electrumx-installer. Although i don't know how well it works.
2. Docker, https://github.com/lukechilds/docker-electrumx
3. Setup with systemd, https://electrumx-spesmilo.readthedocs.io/en/latest/HOWTO.html#using-systemd
2190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What's the worst that can happen if someone aquires your watch wallet? on: April 30, 2021, 08:59:31 AM
Then apart from your privacy being lost, nothing else. They gain access to anything that is inside that wallet (address(es), public key(s), bookmarks, labels) and your transaction history from blockchain.

With those information, someone could
1. Analyze your habit (e.g. when do you spend your Bitcoin)
2. Link your IRL identity with online account (e.g. linking you with your bitcointalk.org account if you ever posted your Bitcoin address)
3. Know how do you spend your Bitcoin (e.g. deposit to exchange and buy gift card)

I think the worst case is someone could threat you and demand Bitcoin with reason such as
1. Will report to police because Bitcoin isn't legal.
2. Share your personal stuff (most common are masturbation video and personal chat history), even though they actually don't have those stuff.
2191  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Questions] Running my own electrum server on: April 29, 2021, 12:02:22 PM
In the end, i decided to try setup electrumx from scratch and i think successfully setup it based on the log file.

Code:
Launching ElectrumX server...
INFO:electrumx:ElectrumX server starting
INFO:electrumx:logging level: INFO

This is how i do it. Hopefully i don't forget any step or copy wrong command

1. Install daemontools

Code:
sudo apt install daemontools

2. Move to proper path

Code:
cd ~/Desktop
git clone https://github.com/kyuupichan/electrumx.git
cd electrumx

3. Configure Python virtual environment (optional)

Code:
python3.8 -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate
mkdir ./DB

4. Install electrumx (i think it's optional)

Code:
pip install .

5. Create directory service

Code:
mkdir ./service

6. Copy the daemontools script

Code:
mkdir -p ./scripts/electrumx
cp -R ./contrib/daemontools ./scripts/electrumx

7. Configure ENV. Make sure to read this guide https://electrumx.readthedocs.io/en/latest/environment.html#environment

Code:
cd ./scripts/electrumx/daemontools/env
nano DB_DIRECTORY

Here's value i used

Code:
FILENAME=VALUE

COIN=BITCOIN
DAEMON_URL=USERNAME:PASSWORD@LOCALHOST
DB_DIRECTORY=/home/user/Desktop/electrum/DB
NET=TESTNET
ELECTRUMX=/home/user/Desktop/electrumx/.venv/bin/electrumx_server
USERNAME=user

8. Configure log path. Change /path/to/log/dir to /home/user/Desktop/electrumx/scripts/electrumx/daemontools/log

Code:
cd /home/user/Desktop/electrumx/scripts/electrumx/daemontools
nano run

9.  Start svscan

Code:
cd /home/user/Desktop/electrumx
svscan ./service

If you can't have multiple terminal run this instead

Code:
cd /home/user/Desktop/electrumx
svscan ./service & disown

10. Add the service

Code:
cd /home/user/Desktop/electrumx/service
ln -s /home/user/Desktop/electrumx/scripts/electrumx/daemontools electrumx

11. To see output from Electrum

Code:
cd /home/user/Desktop/electrumx/scripts/electrumx/daemontools/log
tail current

P.S. It's very complicated compared with setup for systemd system or using docker (https://github.com/lukechilds/docker-electrumx).
2192  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: Bitcoin meng-Angkasa, Sinkronisasi Blockchain Tanpa Internet on: April 29, 2021, 08:30:30 AM

2193  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mixers under the threat? on: April 28, 2021, 11:24:18 AM
Mixers has always been under threat, there are few reputable mixers closed because they think their time is almost up or stopped by government (e.g. the operator arrested or take control over the server). This is one reason why CoinJoin gaining popularity.
2194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Full Node Poll on: April 26, 2021, 11:29:24 AM
No plans to turn it off, since I'm going to be upgrading my computer and I have enough btc to feel like I should participate in the network.

Make sure you allow incoming connection and configure port forwarding on your router to ensure you can contribute.

P.S. Don't forget "Ignore" feature is exist.
2195  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Python HEX generator Range based on: April 26, 2021, 11:17:25 AM
Since you're not being specific, i made something very simple

Code:
start = 0x0
end = 0xF
path = './file.txt'

with open(path, 'w+') as f:
    for x in range(start,end+1):
        f.write(hex(x) + '\n')

The output should look like this

Code:
0x0
0x1
0x2
0x3
0x4
0x5
0x6
0x7
0x8
0x9
0xa
0xb
0xc
0xd
0xe
0xf

But as @HeRetiK said, what do you want to accomplish? It's possible you fell to XY problem.
2196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unconfirmed BTC transaction on: April 24, 2021, 09:38:03 AM
OP is the receiver and he use custodial wallet. It's only possible if OP ask sender to do "the cheap method".
It's possible to do the expensive method (using accelerators) too. It doesn't have to be done by the sender.
For submitting a transaction on such accelerators, the only information you need is the transaction hash.

I know that, but i only referring 1st option mentioned by @logfiles which can't be done by OP.
2197  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Freewallet or Atomic Wallet? on: April 24, 2021, 08:48:50 AM
Atomic wallet is closed source. Their actual claim is they use open-source library.
Changed. That means it is hard to see any altcoin open source wallet, or is there any open source altcoin wallet?

Yes, there are very few open source multi-crypotcurrency wallet. Here are few example that i know (WARNING: i didn't perform thoughtful research, please DYOR),
1. https://brd.com/
2. https://edge.app/bitcoin-wallet/
2. https://guarda.co/

It's ridiculous, very few people in China affect Bitcoin price, but everyone in China should die. You should visit psychiatrists/psychologists.
2199  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Are there any benchmark about Bitcoin full node client resource usage? on: April 22, 2021, 12:34:13 PM
Are there any benchmark about Bitcoin full node client resource usage/time complexity on different block size? For reference, i'm looking for benchmark similar with Bitfury report (Block Size Increase). Unfortunately Bitfury's paper doesn't mention hardware, software and parameter used, so it's not reliable source.

What i'm NOT looking is benchmark like this, 2020 Bitcoin Node Performance Tests.
2200  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Sidechains on: April 21, 2021, 10:52:30 AM
For Omni sidechain, you can use these explorer
https://omniexplorer.info/
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/omni

For Liquid there's https://blockstream.info/liquid/, but I see that the amounts are not shown ("confidential").

Don't worry about "confidential" amount, that's how Liquid network works. They implement Confidential Transaction (CT) which hide amount of coin send/received. Another cryptocurrency such as Monero also use it.
