Would it have been possible to implement the laundry mechanism in such a way that it would be part of the system and not run by any single individual or group?

Now that would be totally awesome, but so far I am not aware of any remotely workable proposals (that is, proposals that do not involve things like Total Trust between  the agents participating in laundry)

Oh, one more thing michael - I will replace the blockchain lockins of Tenebrix with "standard" multicoin code that allows you to set a locking via config without editing the code and recompiling, if you do not mind (Obviously you need TBX lockins removed but I suspect you might want to set one of your own at some point)

WOW thats fast, even every 15 seconds.  Why does bitcoin use such a long window (10 minutes).  I don't quite understand.  If GG can produce/verify several blocks a minute, why does it take btc 10 mins?

Long story.

Bitcoin has a different set of assumptions about threats and network. GG was made to see whether that envelope can be pushed.

Can you give me the short version of the long story if its too much...  10 minutes seems like too long.  Wouldn't BTC be better if it was 1 minute or less to confirm a transaction?

There is tradeoff between centralization and block speed.

BTC was designed as "millions upon millions of peeps mine with cpus" not "everyone is gathered in 4-6 pools"

Also, you need damn precise clocking to mine blocks at such speed (that's why GG has a built-in NTP solution to, well, ensure good time across the net)

Well, per most recent chat consensus, 2 mils go to faucet(s?), 1.5 mils is distributed as development and promotion budget among Trusted Directors (like Doublec maybe Gavin, maybe Art, maybe some other decent dudes - will make a separate thread for that) and what is left is generously left to me for Our Great Big TBX "coin history removal" service aka laundry.

So no, I will not singlehandendly manage 3 year worth of TBXez.

But like I promised michal, I'll make a fairbrix for all those interested

where can i check the total network hash?

1 block every 3 seconds seems..crazy.

Just spent few minutes renaming everything from Tenebrix to Fairbrix (alongside with some other stuff to differentiate it from Tenebrix)

https://github.com/Matoking/Tenebrix

Time well spent.

And no, I have no idea if this will work. I'll try it and see if it explodes in a nuclear fireball. (pretty unlikely but would be kinda cool if it happened)

EDIT:
Assertion fail.
No nuclear fireball.
Sad face.

It can be tricky. Worry not, I'm on the case and the fork will be made in about a day or so (I'm kinda caught up in a whole pile o stuff now)

Good. Hopefully it will be supported like Tenebrix.

Well, obviously I won't be doing techsupport in the forums (I have tenebrix and gg to cater to, and I have about two eyes and two hands, a job, a side-job and a GF. Only so much a single Lolcust can) and negotiating with exchanges and other such thingies is up to michael as well.

Also, I won't be doing code maintenance (not that I'm good at it), but given that TBX and this will share codebase, it will be a question of michael copypasting any kewl Tenebrix tweaks into his code (and TBX is opensource)

I'll mine this like I mined tenebrix seeing that i still like it's qualities even without the laundry.  I still think tenebrix with a laundry > tenebrix without one though.

Diversifying investments ? Wise Smiley

I cannot into gchat right now

But for now I'm on IRC in #Tenebrix (freenode)
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Question/Bounty: What does it take to start Tenebrix without premined coins? on: September 29, 2011, 06:47:39 PM
Ah, that's a typo. Okaydokay. Anyways, the 150 TBX offer holds if you wait a mite, since I'm quite caught up with them exchanges and the faucet

P.S.:

Why don't you also post a bounty for forking Geist in GG ? Everyone except me is playing on the geist exchange, and I can't (only have pre-mined ones left, and promises are promises)

I feel kinda left out. Throw a guy some GG will ya ?

Ah yesss, I decided not to mess with transaction code )

CIA probably isn't interested in you so much. But perhaps your local office of the Камітэт дзяржаўнай бяспекі would be interested in your unlicensed internet activities...Oh looky, they have a nice website with lots of contact infos. http://www.kgb.by

Do tell them that "lolcust" is intending to launder Ghost Gold.
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New alternate cryptocurrency - Geist Geld on: September 29, 2011, 06:35:52 PM
where can i check the total network hash?

1 block every 3 seconds seems..crazy.

It usually is 1 block every 15 but someone dumped a load of hashes on it it must be. Will take 20 s or so to adjust.

Trying to send GG
I get this error: {"code":-4,"message":"Error: Transaction creation failed  "}
4 times, same error. Restarted client, nothing.

Is there a transactions size limit or something? Sending 10k GG in one go didn't work out but when I split the transaction into 2x5K it works.

So you can't send more than 5000 ? Odd, I'll look into that.
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Question/Bounty: What does it take to start Tenebrix without premined coins? on: September 29, 2011, 06:34:16 PM
A lot of stuff actually seems to be set in the configuration file itself.
https://github.com/Lolcust/Tenebrix/blob/cpumine/tenebrix.conf

- Fork the repository
- Rename stuff
- Change the IRC channel name in the configuration file
- Change the Subsidy value to 25 (aka normal brix generation) in the configuration file

Heck, I may try doing it now.

Rename it Fairbrix, release the new code within 50 blocks generated on this forum and I'll send you 200TBX.  Of course, a Tenebrix clone without the premined laundry nonsense would quickly become worthless in my opinion, but who knows.

So on one hand you call laundry "nonsense", on the other hand you say that the clone will be worthless without it ?

Strange. You confuse me.

Anyways, don't forget to generate a new genesis with a fancy quote, and don't forget to warn LF that yet another channel is gonna have an alt talking in it. EDIT and change the magic numbers that determine message start thingie, or it might get very confusing very fast.

The genesis might take you some time on a weak CPU tho. I generated mine for quite some hours on GF's i7

Also it's somewhat strange to post a bounty for something like forking TBX in TBX, but if you give me a day or so to finish messin' with faucet, exchange and pool, I'll do it all except the "generate new genesis" (I'll leave the honor to seed it with a quote of your choice to you ) part for 150 TBX  Grin

Okay dudes, Gui-less daemon is good on all platforms (Win, Lin Ubuntu LTS, Lin CentOS, Lin Fedora specifically compiled and tested)

https://github.com/Lolcust/Tenebrix-daemon-exp/commit/a9c5887f3572259376ac0dbfaabe6232288375eb

I guess that means that it's faucet time, then exchange time, then pool time.

Any pushpool gurus here? It needs tweaking due to "unusual" PoW...

When will be COPY option ENABLED in GG client?

It sort of is - windows "crutches" client allows you to copy and paste any text in the console, with the exact manner of doing so being determined by EDIT->Settings->Copy and paste
478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How mining GeistGeld/Tenebrix can get you a prison sentence in the US on: September 29, 2011, 05:24:03 PM

That was before you were forced to admit that you had premined 7.7 million coins for your money laundering operation. Once I found out about that I wiped the usb key containing GG and chucked it in a river.

Destroying evidence (and then admitting to it on a public forum)? Regardless of how any theoretical trial turned out, that could get YOU sent away.

The US Attorney's office has a standard policy of 'first through the door'. Meaning that the first one to tell on their fellow co-conspirators usually gets a lesser sentence or even immunity if the case is big enough. An international money laundering ring that has no problems in dealing with terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda is definitely big enough to qualify for immunity. In fact,as a patriotic law-abiding citizen, it is one's duty to make the existence of such an operation known to the authorities, and to provide any necessary assistance they may require. Pools and exchanges further the conspiracy in much larger ways than individual miners, and if any of those are in US controlled territory...

Coolio.

Hey, can you hook me up with CIA? ^__^
