If we find some use for XMR, the price is supported.

543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore CryptoNote GPU Miner v9.1 on: November 13, 2014, 02:14:06 PM
Putting aside hashrate increases, is any work being done to reduce power usage / increase efficiency?

Power usage is the same as before.
544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins are killing Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency as a whole on: November 09, 2014, 01:30:30 PM
The altmarket is the biggest suppression when it comes to Bitcoin mass adoption. To date, there should rightfully only be a handful of altcoins available, specifically, those that actually feature innovations and/or improve upon blockchain technology.

But no, instead we have thousands of 'shitcoins' made strictly, for the most part, to scam investors for a quick buck.

Adding a new currency was initially limited to the governments throughout the world. Now we gave that same power to every capable individual. And we as a whole, have produced one decent 'currency' per hundreds of shitcoins produced per month.

When I was introduced to Bitcoin, i did more research into cryptocurrency. Not long after, without even trying, I basically knew so much about altcoins...specifically, the scams. I heard more news about Altcoin scams than I did about actual bitcoin news.

This is the kind of crap that will ruin Crypto. A huge percentage  of BTC owners dont hold or invest in BTC. They use it to trade via trading against shitcoins. A majority of BTC holders dont really care about if Bitcoin goes 'to the moon'. They just want to choose wisely between a 'short' or a 'long'.

Your average basement dweller can produce a new altcoin in a few hours and dedicate the remainder of the day to create a few graphics, hype up some new 'innovation', and the sheeple traders follow blindly. Next thing you know, hidden premine. Dev earns $5-50k for a days work. And on to the next one.

This is crypto. Only a tiny percentage actually use bitcoin as a currency instead of just a trading token. The majority are only in it for trading against shitcoins.

Shut down all Bitcoin exchanges save only those keeping ONLY BTC/USD, and you will see a true rise to BTC. As long as the alt market is present, Bitcoin will go nowhere but a steady downtrend in terms of value.

The majority of the bitcoin community is the reason why Bitcoin will never be truly become the new currency as some believe.

I'll come back to this when BTC is trading @ $250 ea. by XMAS, and $120 by the end of winter.

RIP Tim Draper.

what you're saying is true to a point.  but remember mainstream adoption won't happen over night..  not with the banksters around.  it is a long hard road ahead for btc even without the hundreds of useless altcoins.

in fact, i don't mind btc having its own ecosystem of altcoins revolving around it.

If we can have some adoption with BTC and other altcoin, it would be even better.
545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 09, 2014, 01:10:36 PM
...We are all in the same boat, and it is burning. How about doing what it takes now, so that we can continue to other things? Smiley

Meanwhile the price is going up. If it continues that way, I suppose at one point we could naturally stop this discussion?

Since August 2014 it isn't exactly going up, that is wishfull thinking. And no, not burning but sinking.

  • This boat is nearly underwater, and just now is the chance to change emission. Not at 0.050BTC, nor on 0.100BTC. Now, or never -
  • now, or never! Once completely submerged below waterline, all passengers might choose to swim over elsewhere, saving their savings.

If we want to change emission, it is now. Otherwise it is never.
546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 08, 2014, 03:04:04 PM
I somewhat now see some arguments for changing the emission - best would be if could change the emission and adapt the current amount of coins accordingly, but I think this is really impossible.

maybe I am wrong and the social contract is less important than the fixing - I am really really unsure about this.

We may need a new CN coin to implement the thoughts here.

Do you plan to release a GPU solo miner?
548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you like to get paid in Bitcoin? on: November 04, 2014, 05:02:22 PM
I'd like to be paid 20% of my wages in bitcoin. I can use 80% of fiat wages to pay only accepted fiat bills and spend the bitcoin at the bitcoin friendly stores. So I don't need to  bother to convert them to each other when necessary.

That is a good idea. I would like to treat BTC as saving/hedge against inflation and use it when necessary.

I can predict that Dow will not be below 9000 by the end of this year.
550  Economy / Economics / Re: How many Bitcoins to succesfully manipulate price down by $100 ? on: November 04, 2014, 03:20:59 PM
It is required around 30-50.000 bitcoin to manipulate price down by 100$, and this isn't a good thing, some people have this quantity of bitcoin.

The question is how long the price down of $100 will last.
551  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin mining cost on: November 04, 2014, 03:16:17 PM
What's the average cost to mine a coin now, kindly tell me, guys.

assuming you are running this hardware https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735982.0
assuming you dont pay cooling costs.
assuming you pay $0.07 CAD for electricity
assuming your dont have any interest or amortization costs on your hardware.
assuming you dont have any space rental or employment overhead.
amusing you mining for a shitty pool with bad luck but they pay anyway.

the average bitcoin costs $123.33 CAD to make today.

this cost changes every 2 weeks, at the moment it will become 7.5% less efficient to mine 1 coin in 5 days. that percentage is historically low - should be average around 10-15% and is expected to increase exponentially ever 2 weeks.

in 3-5 months things should get interesting as something will have to give, mining hasrate will fall or price will go up, as the cost of production = market price.

So in 13*10 = 130 days, with difficulty increase of 10% each 13 days, the cost of mining is $319 CAD. It is still lower than current price.
552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Good news! Gavin Andresen: I think everybody should switch to talking in "bits" on: November 04, 2014, 02:50:23 PM
I live in Korea and if I buy a cup of coffee it costs, 5,000 won.  For me to switch to a cup of coffee being 15,000 bits is much much more natural that .015 bitcoins.

A nice dinner on the town might cost 100,000 bits.  It is very natural.  Yes, it is big numbers, but lots of countries are already using big numbers.
110.99 bits is better than 0.00011099 BTC.
553  Economy / Economics / Re: German retail bank announces negative interest rates on: November 03, 2014, 01:25:07 PM
This is good news to currency which you can keep it yourself, such as Bitcoin.

Well whilst negative interest is bad, bitcoin has been losing value all year and it down 50% of its worth, so not exactly great as a currency or store of wealth at the moment sadly.
Time will tell.
554  Economy / Economics / Re: This "news" article about printing money is scary. on: November 03, 2014, 11:30:52 AM
The fact that money is spewing out of printing factories and bitcoin is still going down, shows how much of a bubble(s) bitcoin was.

BTC is a small bubble compared to fiat.

Is it? Depends by what you mean by small? Fiat money can pop and burst if they just keep pumping it out, but bitcoin has lost half of it's value over the course of a year whereas fiat looses it more over time. Bitcoin sadly isn't an ideal currency at the moment, but obviously neither is fiat.

If you look  back in 3-5 years time, you might find it is a good time to buy now. Who knows.
555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why There Should Be A Bitcoin Central Bank on: November 03, 2014, 11:05:00 AM
Central bank for Bitcoin? Do you even know what Bitcoin is as a symbol & concept?

I think that is just a collection of banks to insure the BTC deposit.
556  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will you do when BTC is 1M each on: November 03, 2014, 10:49:06 AM
I will do something I like, such as contributing to the new economy using cryptocurrency.

559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CleverHash asic mining x11 to x15. Is this even possible ? on: November 03, 2014, 10:09:38 AM
Any combination of algorithms can be implemented in ASIC. Whether that will be implemented depends on profitability. I think Xn ASIC will not be realized due to the high cost of development and small market capitalization of Xn coins.
560  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins are killing Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency as a whole on: November 03, 2014, 09:38:58 AM
First time i know bitcoin, I do not care about altcoin, which i only pursue bitcoin, but as time goes by, I became interested and started looking for altcoin and of course, to exchange into bitcoin Grin so I think altcoin not kill bitcoin but only innovation development of cryptocurrency, just my opinion Cheesy
