701  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / PCI-E x4? on: August 31, 2011, 09:41:51 PM
I've been snooping around, looking to maximize my hashing. In my journey, I've learned that I have a PCIE 2.0 x4 slot, yet I've yet to see a card with that interface. Is it just a slower version of the x16? I understand backwards the compatibility of PCIE so I assume that I can use any interface anyway. Are there any x4's out there? And before I kill my mobo, does the x4 accept x16 cards?

Mind if this post makes me look dumb, I'm a tad cunfuzzled with the x4 interface's lack of cards, and altogether usefulness.

/thread I've figured this out.
702  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone tried mining with a FirePro V9800 on: August 31, 2011, 09:36:07 PM
According to the wiki's hardware comparison, the FirePro line doesn't fair well at all, even though I didn't see the V9800. They ranged from like 50-150 m/hash sec
703  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining with the 5750 on: August 31, 2011, 09:24:02 PM
I've needed a good video card for a while, but potential Bitcoins sweetened the deal, and made 115$ seem like a lot less
704  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining with the 5750 on: August 31, 2011, 08:12:01 PM
PowerColor Go Green 6750 (should be simliar to 5750).

875/300. stock voltage. 181mh/s (tried to OC to 925 and it crashed).

best thing is: it's fanless and only draws power from PCI-E interface (so no 6PIN power connector needed). Well, I have a case fan blowing it at it to keep the temp at around 64C.

I had the 5750 running at exactly that earlier today, except it roars, and needs the 6pin. It entirely owns the 5450!
705  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining with the 5750 on: August 31, 2011, 06:15:27 PM
Well that is fully acceptable for me. Thanks for the infos.
706  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mining with the 5750 on: August 30, 2011, 07:21:51 AM
Hey everyone! I've just recently actually started mining. I thought it was time to get something better than the 5450 I've been running (sad isn't it?) I've upgraded to the 5750!

Is it any good? I've estimated, that I can get about 160ish M/hash with it. Any tips? etc

Thanks

Well you haven't gotten any public offers so I'll suggest the best I can:

I will give you every last cent of my bitcoin wallet (~.03BTC as I've only just started mining) And give you 50% of the profits (while mining) until $310 + 0.07% as interest/waiting compensation= $332 over about 12 months. Okay, well that isn't so good of an offer, but I've tried...
708  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Optimal Bitcoin Mining Corp. now offering remote GPU use contracts! on: August 30, 2011, 06:30:20 AM
Quite honestly, I'm interested, but your info just doesn't work. If you WERE able to put this together with the numbers that you provided, and everything went according to plan, then it might be possible to make money. I see this as flawed as you are "over-estimating", Your numbers change (slightly) per post, and the overall net is not high enough to offset the startup and upkeep as you would otherwise not profit much. Not to mention your "investors" are the ones bearing the costs, not you; if something goes wrong, or profitability disintegrates before your eyes you can just disappear, along with any net and tech.

I may seem naive, inconsiderate, or speculative (well I AM speculating) but without even thinking about the numbers, there are holes
709  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining with Old Hardware? on: August 19, 2011, 10:36:02 PM
Not one of  those cards has any hashing potential sell them for 5-10 each on craigslist and use that towards a 5770

Thanks for the input there. Not entirely what I had in mind, but I'll keep in up there.

and if you dont have any PCI-Express Slots free, just buy a quad core, which will be much faster than all these cards together.

It is possible to run code on such GPUs, but it is not easy and I bet, that there arent any miners available for these card.

A discussion on the software subcategory has led me to need the sha256 algorithm, and to then "play" with it. It is beginning to look really unethical. I'll probably just put them back into the MAME setup where they came from.

Sounds like an idea. I'll look into it.

Thanks again
711  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: OpenGL miners? on: August 19, 2011, 10:02:41 PM
Opengl is a framework for describing geometry, and displaying it. So a Opengl miner isn't even possible.
That's like you would want to have a operating system written in microsoft excel.

As I said, I would feel like an idiot asking... Thanks for the heads up, with an er, "straightforward" response. In theory though, if OGL is for geometry, which is nothing more than numbers, all it would take is a bridge? Eh, again just dumb and unsupported thoughts.

Thanks again

Oh and, do you want some screengrabs of my Excel based OS?
712  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / OpenGL miners? on: August 19, 2011, 09:50:46 PM
My quest to bring some (very) old hardware to my mine has brought me to the need of a miner supporting OGL. As a mining newbie, I could very well look dumb asking this, but are there any miners that support OGL? My quick search didn't prove too successful and I don't want to rip apart my computer before I have an answer.

Thanks, and Cheers

let them die with dignity

I might just have to do that... Two of them take turns on my MAME setup though, They can keep through the paces surprisingly. I'll probably play with them anyway, just to give them the pride of high priority tasks. Thanks for the clarification that they probably wouldn't work, I didn't think they would.
714  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mining with Old Hardware? on: August 19, 2011, 09:19:49 PM
Hey everyone! I was digging through my piles of crap looking for some extra hash boosts and came across 3 older Dinosaur cards:

ATI rage XL (I don't think there's onboard memory, but I could be wrong
ATI rage 128
ATI Radeon 9200 (128 onboard)
ATI rage theater (I think it's 64 onboard, but I could be wrong)

I'm almost positive that I won't get opencl support, but would I be able to mine with them? If so how? And approx/guess on Hash/s? Before you ask, they are left overs from when I was playing with trashpicked computers. I also don't really care about the efficiency, as right now, I don't have the money to invest in a true rig and I'm just playing.

I just realized I'm whitelisted, after I posted on newbie. But this is a bit more appropriate, and modified

Thanks in advance.

716  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Phoenix Patch to allow fallback to primary pool on: August 19, 2011, 07:15:32 PM
That's really neat. I only mine one pool at a time, due to consumption and noobness though. I also didn't know that Phoenix was written in Python.
717  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 1000W PSU rails and 4 GPUs on: August 19, 2011, 07:13:17 PM
Unless something is failing, I doubt it's a power problem. It's most likely a heat issue if you can mine for a few hours. There's a lot of heat coming out really fast. Watercooling is recommended, but you could just ditch the case
718  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: August 19, 2011, 06:45:19 PM
While I understand your decision entirely, it is a small nuisance to force all of the newbies to wade through the spam. Don't get me wrong though, it really is smart, I'm gonna enforce that on my forum actually. Also (I couldn't resist, sorry): trolololo.

The bitcoin community, as with most PC related communities continue to surprise me. They haven't eroded like console gaming has, and they still care about the trolls. I will happily work for my trust.

719  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your Mhash/s? (Pissing contest here) on: August 19, 2011, 06:41:23 PM
Well my "great" 5450 gives me about 15 Mhash/s, and it's only until I get a true rig. Then my processor mines at like 2.5 Mhash/s. I guess I do okay, considering my "pick"
720  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: August 19, 2011, 06:26:18 PM
I'm lou, as my name suggests.

I've Been mining for a while on a pretty crappy card (5450). I've actually managed to accumulate a whopping .3 BTC with it over about a month... Well just saying hi, and getting into the forum.
