I've updated to 8.1.1 and I'll see how it runs with that.
Just a note that my wallet has approx 83,000 transactions so perhaps is one of the largest in those terms (from staking). I'm wondering if I should consolidate it into a new wallet and the lag would go away?

Dear all,
Before our project can move on to the next step, we need to ensure that our client will be completely scalable and stable from its core.
Please report if you are holding significant amount of VTR and experiencing low usability (client freezes) and if there is any improvement after block 1,300,000.
Regards, vTorrent
Thanks for the update. Please see included my notes: I'm running the latest Windows 10 and vTorrent 8.1.0 - My client still freezes with every new block that is found for 5-10 seconds
- The overview / recent transactions page does not update once the client is running (if I restart the client it updates, but then stays where it is); same for transactions page.
- I get between 1% and 10% CPU usage on a 6 core, 12 thread @ 3.5 GHz CPU

block 1,300,001 looks like it just successfully occurred.
so hardfork successful I believe.

How likely is torrent features after 1.3M block? Wouldn't that require a new client? Am I getting pumped for nothing, is this gonna be another Y2K bug fizzer?

Asking again if anyone has a stuck chain or knows how to fix one?
No, chain is fine for me and I have 16 nodes currently connected with all of them having an up to date blockchain. I believe you can use 'rewindchain' in the console to make the blockchain go back to an earlier date. But I've never personally had success with it. You could also try deleting the entire chain and starting from fresh (make SURE to backup your wallet). If you forcefully quit the client it could lead to corruption of the chain (At least that has been my experience with vTorrent as well as several other projects)

Okay, I'm in with 20k VTR. I think, rather than storing on bittrex, I should put it in the actual vtorrent wallet. Is the GUI noob-friendly, or do I need to read documentation and execute code to use it? Beginner here. Oh, also... when I try to run the .exe, it is triggering a detection by Avira antivirus. Is this normal, and should I ignore it? Hope this thing can go 100x in the long term Long time holder here; wallet is fairly straightforward and similar to ShadowCoin wallet. Take all the usual precautions like backing up wallet etc. I've been running it for 2 years and had no indication of any malware/virus; I assume you're just getting a false positive from the scanner.

a 0.8.2.1 node has been online for the past 35 minutes...

The problem with your bet is that I basically agree with you.
The next hard fork will likely just be the wallets switching to a new formula for calculating interest on staking coins. We probably don't need to do anything unless there is a problem with the switch and blocks get stuck.
So I'm not really expecting a new wallet to be announced as part of the hard fork.
So the question is - when will a new updated client be announced?
This has two main aspects to it:
* what upgrades will it contain? * will one of those upgrades be the release of the BitTorrent tab and the enabling of the BitTorrent functionality which is already a switch in the code waiting to be turned on?
Well, that's just a guessing game. Which is why I basically agree with you.
I hope we do finally get a working bittorrent tab, we have waited a very, very, very, long time, some would call us mad for holding this long. Considering the status of other projects in this space there aren't very many competitors. JoyStream hasn't posted an update in 2 whole years.

If I'm running a system with a powerful GPU is this appropriate for the Elastic network? Or is it purely CPU?
In terms of CPU/GPU, what kind of systems would be suitable?

VTR cheap az chips. Scoop it up boys
Theres a 1 btc sell wall at 3.5k, and 2btc up to 3.6k. Yeap. Good buys. Did @dev apply for polo listing yet? Don't think Dev is that concerned with more exchange listings right now. Besides, I don't think Polo would take a second look as it is - wait for torrent functionality . Already discussed--its unlikely to be listed on polo for a variety of reasons. Mainly because polo is US-based. Bittrex is based in the US. So is BitTorrent. Agreed. But I think Polo is a bit more stringent with certain projects. Let's see what happens anyway.

It just got more sad over here really. So are you trying to pump it based on the idea that "we will clone Joystream"
So we've had people complaining about waiting for over 2 years to see something tangible and now we have others complaining about an insurance policy for those that are concerned and those holding back until they see something before investing in this project. IMO I like the idea of having a plan B. Price probably went up because of some people sitting around waiting to see something before buying a few vtr likely just saw the risks go down. Let's just get this out of the way: Joystream, if it works at all and is open-sourced, is based on bitcoin micropayments. This will not fly under current circumstances. Unless the bitcoin block size is increased or side channels implemented, it will take too long and be far too expensive to transact. And I don't see bitcoin protocol changing anytime soon. It's far too valuable in its current iteration. It would be more promising if Joystream was an Ethereum Dapp with compatible token. This technology is ambitious and actually evolving. Obviously, merging torrent functionality with crypto is proving difficult. I think we all need to be more patient and realistic about progress and expectations. The same applies for MU2--without Kim being able to present BitCache as a viable option. Assuming,of course he doesn't get extradited to the US. MU2 is also tied to being a "real stock" with regulations etc etc etc; it's a paper stock, not a cryptocurrency. It's very unclear how the investor will make a profit (if at all). PureVidz doesn't really seem to have a proper plan going forward. So the list of competitors to vTorrent is slim. On the topic of chain-congestion: vTorrent and projects like Siacoin, STORJ etc are the perfect example of projects that legitimately have a reason to have their own blockchain. Not every node on the Bitcoin network (even without a blocksize limit) is necessarily interested in storing data pertaining to storage. It just doesn't make sense. Also, whereas financial/value transactions may occur x times per hour, it is easy to see that storage transactions would happen on a much more frequent scale.

the risk is still very high here
The risk with every project is huge in this space; this has been discussed several times previously. A good example is MU2 / Kimdotcom which I also invested in--now it's very unclear whether my holdings are worthless or not. I literally have a piece of paper in my printer showing my holdings in that project that may be worth money, and may not be. If you don't want to play with risk then invest in normal stocks like Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet. Better yet don't invest at all. Better to not get your feet wet. Better to not be the first person to walk through the door that doesn't exist yet. Better to not be that guy 7 years ago who bought 2 pizzas for 10,000 BTC.

It just got more sad over here really. So are you trying to pump it based on the idea that "we will clone Joystream" How would you be different from 10 other devs who will do the same? Sounds like the future is bleak asf. Still hodling plenty tho. I'll probably wait until the upcoming hard fork and then up to a week more for a meaningful statement from the dev. Will be out if not satisfied
It's only a suggestion from one of the community and there is no official post regarding it at all. The reason for the pump is likely because the dev has been online a lot this week as well because the idea behind VTR or JoyStream or MU2 still hasn't been solved. Adding to the complexity is Kimdotcom's current legal status; he may end up being extradited to the US (this has become an issue in the past 48 hours) Adding to the complexity is that PureVidz developers had an argument and the price went from 2000 satoshis down to 200; it also doesn't solve the same issue that VTR does and is really just a video streaming site. As well there was a positive article about VTR in the press.

Please explain to a newb,is this vtorrent thing where someone can upload some material and when someone is downloading your material you"ll get vtorrent tokens? Dont laugh at me,this is how I understood this thing works.
Yes. Essentially that is the idea, plus an ecosystem where you can chat, access magnet links, trade and the like as well. You don't really have to upload new files or anything, it could be an existing file which you happen to host.

Cypher punks mailing list is talking about distributed Bittorrent.... In the face of thepiratebay censorship a model like vtorrent with the added benefit of incentive based seeding is starting to have a demand Don't know if that one, or any of dozens the "the pirate bay" domains, other than .org / .se / .onion are operated by "the pirate bay". Maybe yes, maybe no. If no, maybe they a true mirror via api, or a scrape, or an import of some scrape / dump appended with subsequent submissions... but still not technically "the pirate bay". And a number of them have interface and or dataset differences, or are broken. Though the hydra meme and model of random popups is certainly fine for those that like playing whack a mole, it's really legacy.
Torrenting data itself, once you have the infohash and queried DHT / PEX for peers, and joined into swarm, is reasonably distributed among contributing peers. (Availability there is human, not algorithmic decision, which other networks try to solve.)
But what tools are there to publish the torrent name and infohash into a fully distributed index, and to search the names and retrieve infohash from it? And to learn and maintain an in flux list of random active nodes you need to contact to bootstrap your client's DHT?
That's not TPB central server index and search model. And decentral bootstrap isn't in clients like vuze or transmission.
It's more like a blockchain (or just a log) index, over darknet.
