Still nothing on torrents ? Can anyone confirm there's an actual product behind 1 printscreen ?

As of now there is no proof, code or even a screenshot or working torrent functionality.

The twitter post by the dev's account (which we can assume wasn't compromised along with his Bitcointalk account) is the first 'official' communication in many, many months.

Sorry, but this isn't evidence. Anyone can forge a screenshot like that.

Dev, if you are really still here and want that account back, you need to sign a message using an address you have proved you own at a previous date.

All the info is here in one of the oldest, locked forum posts on bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

Please do this and show us you are still committed to this project.

Just to note that I also received the same email. The only difference between that email and the one I received is that mine mentioned zCash.

There is a bit of hostility towards the approach I've taken with this project, which while I can fully understand, doesn't make me really want to get involved too much. I'm not quite sure how to proceed, as people want answers, but when they get answers that they don't like it is easy to point the finger at me. I was quite open in my previous postings leading up to the pump that this project received and I gave all the appropriate warning signals, which is when I decided to reduce my holdings, however, because of this people think I'm just trying to sabotage the future of the project.

All I have to say is, you chose to buy into this project yourself, you should've done your own research. Just because someone pushes for answers and you don't get a big bag of money, you should be looking at yourself and your strategy when it comes to cryptocurrency projects. It's super easy to make me a scapegoat, but you should have been reading into the proceedings of this thread a bit more critically.

FWIW, that email comes from a gmail account and my email is gmail-hosted, so its basically cryptographically signed and if it was worth the level of effort to prove the signatures then I'd do it. Short answer: that email came from whoever controlled the gmail account.

I pm'd him a month or 2 ago and he said its still being actively developed. Response was very quick.

Sorry but this isn't good enough.
There are people coming in the slack trying to pretend they got responses from him with insider information and no one can prove it.

Even if he said it's still in development, that isn't saying much if he won't even come on the thread and explain what's going on or message people who have been following the project since the early days.

Have you ever considered that it could be your aggressive attitude that the Dev doesn't respond to?

This guy seems as genuine as they come. There is no reason to slap him down and call him out because you don't believe him.

I think if anything, out of all the people here, I've been among the most patient. It's only very recently that I lost my sense of humor about this.

Trust me when I say: the nice, polite emails and messages have all been tried with no response. And not just by me, I get BCC'd in some of those messages and people have really taken the time to try and get the dev to come and tell us something.

I guess my only question, ik_do - if there's no torrent code at all available to fork from, why would a developer want to come and takeover/fork this project versus just starting a new one without all the headache/baggage?

There's a number of things that make the project interesting. Including exchange listing and mostly the age, there's no chance you would get a coin to get this sort of market or community attention nowadays unless you were throwing major money behind it.

Regardless I am only optimistic about this project in a very cautious manner. Given the reappearing act that occurred recently my own personal interest has reduced quite significantly. I'm not sure of the worth of putting time, energy and money behind a project if it's going to end up being a game of whack-a-mole with the developer.

The same developer who so far has dodged every question relating to the status of the project and only seems to appear when competing projects are bought up.

Besides this, there has been another competing project which has come to my attention recently. Although I don't care for the project personally and don't have any interest in investing in it, it did bring to light one of the key limitations of trying to implement torrents on a blockchain, which is something I touched upon in the slack some time ago--they would have to be different torrent files and other torrent clients would thus be incompatible with them. This is a huge factor in everything. Whether there is another project or not, I'm not so sure that torrents are the way to go anymore. I'm still interested in a marketplace for files and bandwidth, but the key question right now is whether torrents are the technology to achieve this.

The best question I'm asking myself right now is if a Bittorrent / Bitcoin implementation is pretty much the holy grail and there have been at least somewhere in the region of 10-15 projects to attempt it... How come none have had anything to show for it?

Of particular note is JoyStream, which has had the most backing of any project I'm aware of in this space (in the region of millions as far as I'm aware, but I can't find an exact figure). One would assume that with such a large financial backing the project would flourish, but instead, it hasn't had a release in something like 2 years. The team still update their reddit and such by replying to people who are interested, but they haven't really shared any progress in quite some time.

JoyStream's biggest limitation has of course been the fact that its been engineered to run off of Bitcoin.
3 months ago in June, the founder of JoyStream made a comment about the $150 million USD that Bancor had received in funding:
Quote
"As someone actually building a decentralized application on bitcoin, it really makes me think what I am giving up in terms of community support and funding by staying on the platform."
(source)

Supposing that JoyStream pivots to a new platform besides Bitcoin at any point in the near future (which is main criticism most people have of it, being that Bitcoin transactions are hugely expensive and Bitcoin is not suited to thousands of small transactions) then this project has no real purpose.

Again, I've been touching on the subject of the 'race' to deliver the kind of idea that vTorrent (presumably) has been in previous posts on here. At any time another entity can easily move, shift or create something entirely new that could win the race before this project or any other. It's a bad prospect to be in a space of daily dramatic change (for instance the recent resurfance of pnoch) and keep the ship sailing towards the same heading.

Your comment holds true, I have no doubts about it. It would take a significant amount of time to even get a fork started, and time is not something that we can just assume is on our side because the other 15 attempts at Torrent on blockchain never made a dent. Project number 16 might come along in 10 minutes time.

This is what I said about vTorrent in terms of being a moonshot/crazy risk project:

There's another project aiming to achieve exactly what vTorrent was supposed to (if this developer had ever bothered to post a single fucking github commit in the past calendar year). And guess what? It's made by the Popcorn Time guy.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2168758.0
Flixxo is going to be a blockchain-powered video/content market where users are rewarded in tokens for "creating, watching, or seeding videos over BitTorrent"

Great. Great. Great.
Where's the dev? Not a single word in ages. Logs in plenty and doesn't say anything. No responses to emails, no responses to PMs, no responses to this thread.

This is now the second project aiming to do exactly what this project was supposed to do that I've stumbled upon in the past few days.

GG.

Just an update of sorts.
It appears a significant amount of accounts have been compromised in the past few weeks (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0) and that there must be some form of exploit going around for the bitcointalk.org forums

This may mean that the dev account being compromised is factual, although its impossible to tell for certain.

Having said that, there's still been no email replies or news or information or any attempt at telling anyone what is going on from what I've seen.

Virustotal returns 0 results for this.

Including numerous trojan results.

How come the .exe has a different size for the same version?

How come the .exe with 0 virustotal results is dated May 2015?
How come the .exe with 25 positive virustotal results is dated January 2017?

hmmmmmm.......

Hi,
I recently got some SPR as part of the HLM swap and have decided to keep it and run some nodes. The project seems quite interesting and I'm much more interested in supporting both as I can rather than picking favorites.

I have a Raspberry Pi and am trying to run the daemon software, however I've not really been able to so far.

I'm untarred it and chmod +x it, however it doesn't give any feedback via console. I'm running the Raspberry Pi 3 as well as their included OS.

Is there any guide available for setting it up? I'm somewhat of a novice with Linux however I'm excited by setting a few of these up so would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

The masternode of this coin still work? If yes how many coins are mined through masternodes in 24 hours and only 1000 coins to run a masternode?

It's 1000 XMCC to run a masternode
Mine are receiving 2 XMCC about every 24 hours.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: October 12, 2017, 01:00:53 PM
So, what we have here is a failure to communicate.

Over the past few months, the lack of communication on the dev's part has caused a burgeoning vacuum which has filled with all sorts of misinformation and unfulfilled promises.

I probably speak for at least a decent majority of the VTR investors/followers in saying that no one really actively cares who the developer of this or any project is. Some of us have invested in projects with people called "evil-knievel" with no real life identity.

The issue here is that without any clear captain of the ship this project is quickly turning into what could appear to be a long drawn out scam. I'm hesitant to call it a scam because we simply don't have enough information right now.

Now that there is information coming in from a party (pnoch) who has stated that they are not the developer claiming that the developer's account (vtorrent) has been compromised, it stands to reason we should exercise the same caution we would with any project from now on if this were the case.

It's no small matter that the lead developer of a project which is based upon computer security concepts has had their account compromised. There are phenomenal risks that come into play when accounts are compromised and we should all be aware of these, including but not limited to:
  • The potential release of software which may compromise our computers either now or at a later date
  • The potential release of false information/updates in order to try and inflate the price (keep in mind VTR traded $500,000 USD in the past 24 hours)
  • The potential for source code and other information to have been stolen and sold off on the darknet
  • The potential that there has been some form of disagreement with people involved in developing the project and someone is trying to actively sabotage it

Whoever the dev is, in my own opinion, this is what is required to move onwards:
  • Sign the genesis block or some block that was associated with the dev at some point (inb4 Craig S. Wright)
  • Post a tweet on the twitter account (vtorrentcrypto) as well as post on the YouTube channel (link)
  • Post some sort of update on the github account (github.com/vtorrent/)
  • Show that the gmail account (vtorrent.crypto@gmail.com) is under the control of the developer (whoever that is)
  • All of these accounts or as many as possible should post some form of uniform statement (i.e. signing a statement with a key) in order for us to know they are under the control of the same party.

Given how severe the lack of communication has been, and given the events that have taken place in the past 24 hours which has raised a serious number of questions I'd also say that the following is required:
  • A clear indication of what the current status of this project is. This question has been left unanswered repeatedly for some time now and does not work to inspire confidence from anyone.
  • A clear plan of regular updates and some form of assurance that this project hasn't been stolen or otherwise interfered with by parties trying to manipulate the price

As a stretch goal, I'd also personally appreciate some sort of assurance that this won't be happening again. I've extended every patience towards this project and the events of the past 24 hours have basically been nothing more than a giant slap in the face. I can't speak for everyone as agreeing with that, but there is certainly some sentiment that we're dealing with either a problematic developer who has no interest in delivering a final product or some sort of disagreement that happened with developers who have been involved with this project.

Welp I guess pnoch has now logged out and we have the same thing we had a few hours ago: nothing, but this time we have nothing with an attempt at a pump on Bittrex.

Protip:
About 48 hours 1.1 million coins moved around the vTorrent blockchain:

I can't wait for the next update which I'm hoping we'll get by the year 6043

Also when was the account compromised? This is essential information for people to know as this account may have handed of compromised files.

Furthermore, I am especially interested in who was controlling the account the past few months and logging in every few hours and not responding to any thread, post, PM or email ever.

AFAIK, logging into bitcointalk has always been issue while traveling in some countries like China.

So dev team had setup a script on VPS to forward any new post on this thread and PMs to their email.

About when the account was compromised, I think just within this last few days (if not today).

So the dev's account got compromised and we should contact him via email and he'll reply?
I sent him an email and PMs months ago and not a single word.

Furthermore a user in the slack has claimed to receive a response (what a coincidence that this happens right now) from the dev's email in the past half hour or so.

So let's stop dancing around the topic: What is the status of this project?
This is the same question I've been asking for months on end and sorry if it raises my suspicion when you suddenly log into your account which has been inactive for several months at the same time the dev's email starts replying to messages?

You may also be aware that there are several links between this project and you pnoch, yet you've claimed to not be the developer. Please clarify this.

This certainly raises serious questions.

Dear all,

vTorrent dev contacted me that they are having difficulties logging into this forum since they are working in Korea/China weeks ago.

And for some reason, the email linked to the account have been changed.

So during this time, please don't trust any PMs or messages post by 'vtorrent' account.

If anyone need to contact the dev team, please email them directly at vtorrent.crypto@gmail.com

Cheers,
pnoch

edit: I never started any ICOs, and my recommendation is to stay clear from any new ICOs related to torrent (or file-sharing) especially those claiming to have near finish product.

Ok thanks for the information.

What's the status of this project then?

I emailed him several months ago on that exact email address and never got any form of response. He hasn't posted here, he hasn't responded to any PMs, no one knows what the hell is going on with this project.

Just an FYI that I'm available on slack most of the time and you can also PM me through the forums if you wish.

ETH > ETC
BTC > BCH

VTR > WTR

Please create your own thread and otherwise, best of luck. I look forward to holding two sets of coins from the fork. One or both might be worth something.

Bye.

As stated in the above post I'm waiting until things have settled down before doing anything myself.

This is great news.

You're going to fork-off.

Even if you don't, which I really hope you do, we'll hear the end of this artificial FUD storm that's impacted confidence and the price recently. And evidently the increased emails and DMs have pissed off the dev enough to remove his email address. Something he did before when there was a commotion and when it died down he put his email back so people with genuine support requests could get in contact with him.

Like I said, bye bye.

Actually, this is an unmoderated thread, so even if the VTR dev disagreed with what I'm posting he can't really do much about it.
Also, his email address (from what I know) was never removed, there was speculation that it was, but when you view profiles when not logged-in it doesn't show the email address. I could be wrong on that point, however, I don't recall this ever being confirmed.

"You're going to fork-off."
Quite a nice play on words, however, I suggest you re-read what I wrote. It may not be a fork as you expect even if something does happen.

If the dev were around and actively doing or saying anything then I'd be more polite and considerate about posting on this same thread all the time, but with the current status of this project I will continue to post here until there is some game plan going forward. There won't be another thread until we reach that time.

Please also note the number of other people who are agreeing with your sentiment about what I've posted so far. You're obviously free to do and say as you please, and I can understand your reasons for doing so, but I sincerely hope you're not being as monumentally naive as you sound right now about this.

It's also very important to comprehend how divisive things are getting right now without the developer's response. Any developer with an actual interest in their own project would be immediately acting to clear the air.
