...

feeling like a brainiac, added nodes from there,still didn't get connection. --> rolled around wondering why looking at settings over and over again for 15 minutes and then it hit me,my conf was named vTorrent-Hd.conf and as I renamed it to be vTorrent.conf.

Works like a charm now, sometimes my stupidity amazes me over and over  Grin

Not really your fault, it's down to the community to provide instructions for people new to the project.

There is a video that covers your issue and some instructions from the devs, but it's not easy to find. We'll have to work harder on that. The help tools are building up, but they need to be visible.

Once we see the next wallet release I'd like to help put together some solid documentation;
I'm thinking properly written steps along with screenshots all the way through.

Hoping to cover Windows & Mac OS X--might need some help with Linux though.

It'd be nice to have a crypto project where people don't need to ask where the nodes file goes or where the blockchain etc is stored.

Once the documentation is done I'd ask the dev to consider including it with the wallet so people get a really good experience using vTorrent--compared to other projects where you pretty much have to grind your teeth because people assume the stuff that they spent hours having to figure out when they first got started is not common knowledge.

vTorrent should be the turnkey cryptocurrency that pretty much _anyone_ can get up and running just by using a single EXE file. It'd shouldn't require any specialist knowledge of cryptocurrency.

I don't know if coins or leigh saw, but there was a guy in the riot yesterday wanting to do interviews about VTR. Was looking for someone knowledgable or the dev.

I can help with this in about 12 to 24 hours time: I'm not the dev nor do I officially represent anything but have been following this project for quite some time.

Only 300k left on bittrex

....2FA...it will be....open-sourced.

Here is my personal view.

Don't open source the 2FA feature, just yet. It is too valuable for all the hard work that went into it and it has commercial use cases.

What I would do is create a vTorrent wallet with the 2FA included and one without. This will add complexity, but it will deal with the fud about it being closed source.

Exchanges can 100% benefit from your 2FA implementation. So can vTorrent.

You should create a generic Bitcoin wallet with the 2FA built in and label it as a vTorrent innovation to help exchanges with fraud. You should then sell that wallet to exchanges and others interested in security. The sale process is to create a licence agreement with them.

You could also sell them the option to create other coin wallets with 2FA added.

The licence means that they will pay you to see the source code so they can get it inspected for viruses. It also means you can charge them to put the source code into escrow should they need to access it in emergency (you disappear).

You can then choose to accept payment in BTC or VTR.

Once you have earned, say, 1,000 BTC or vTorrent has reached $30m market cap, you can then choose to open source, or not.

The headlines on Coindesk:

"Exchanges Secure Bitcoin Cold Wallets with vTorrent's 2FA Technology"

Only after you posting about using 2FA on exchanges do I see the value of it, look at all the hacks that have happened over the last few years, hundreds of thousands of BTC stolen, wow this really does have a high value.

The kicker is if the devs didn't release this instead of torrent back in August, and just released it as a separate release the marketcap would of shot right up.

Just imagine if they communicated more, we'd have a much much higher marketcap.

The marketcap is usually a good measurement for how well a project is doing.

Its at 300k usd. Kind of insane if you think about the fact this is presumably just a one man show.

Looks like the price and volume has never been higher before.

It's obviously just another purevidz person.  As I mentioned before they cant understand vtorrent has a much different scope to purevidz-which is why they're mentioning a HD video player

Feature request.

Please add Riot chat into the vTorrent road map.

As a pop out module, like BitTorrent and Trading tabs.

Riot is intended to run on decentralised networks and it is open source. Matrix is the OS and Riot is an app that sits on Matrix.

https://github.com/vector-im

https://matrix.org/docs/spec/

With Riot enabled, vTorrent will have its own BitTorrent forum, built in. You can then have channels on discussions to do with anything, but most importantly it can be the home of all private trackers.

Dear all,

Thanks to coins101 and community for support and suggestions.

Riot chat will be implement natively to vTorrent soon, please PM me if anyone wants to help out testing the Riot chat and I will send out beta wallet with Riot enabled as soon as it is ready.

Regards,
vTorrent

Nice move dev.  Certainly a unique feature to have. Will send across a pm shortly.

You guys are falling apart here. You need to regroup and come together if you want vtr to have a fighting chance and not die this year.

If the final product is as good as everybody hopes, there's no need for anyone to "regroup and come together" whatever you mean by that. The product will speak for itself.

The product that has been in development for 2 years without any advancements besides a closed source 2fa that may or may not include a virus that will rob you blind one day.
Ok I got cha.

Again.  Repitition of what has already been discussed several times. All you're doing at this point is bumping the thread.

i never seen so many haters in one thread. you guys need to learn from other communities that r more welcoming to others with different views.
peace out.

+1
They can't handle criticism or simple questions.

What's the matter guys - nothing happening over in the PureVidz thread.... yeah get used to that!

Nah they still haven't realized that poopvidz has a completely different goal to this project.

Nah he's just an idiot.  Better you didn't respond to him tbh.

Wallet 0 is at it again  Roll Eyes

Interesting.

More interesting is that there is only 500k vtr for sale now.

Bitcoin + Monero + BitTorrent + ShadowMarket

Can use as BitTorrent without crypto; or

Can use as crypto without BitTorrent; or

Can use BitTorrent with crypto.

Got a file you want to share and charge for? Put it into BiTorrent section, then charge for bandwidth.

Got some sort of desire to share for nothing? Put it into BitTorrent section, and don't charge. Maybe ask for donations.

etc.

Am I able to download shit from thepiratebay and just seed it on vTorrent and earn coins?  Cheesy
Not if the people that uploaded on piratebay do it first! xD

Actually this could be a big problem, whats to stop one person from downloading a paid torrent, then distributing it for free?

Economy of scale.

No one has ever "priced" torrents before; in any case there is nothing to stop anyone from doing anything. Just like the Internet and paid websites or services; can someone rip all the content off of  Netflix? Yes,  but for most people paying 10 bucks a month for content as a service is much easier and less time consuming than dealing with the alternative.

We already did the chit chat over whether people support this project or not a few pages back. It's a speculative project... Just like every other project on this site including bitcoin itself.

It's not totally clear, but it looks like there are two payment coins within the VTR wallet:

Code:
</div><!-- #coincontrol -->

                <select id="txn_type" class="txn_type button is-inverse has-fixed-icon"  style="width:180px;" onchange="changeTxnType();">
                    <option class="vred" value="0" title="VTR to VTR" selected>VTR to VTR</option>
                    <option class="vred" value="1" title="VTR to Token">VTR to Token</option>
                    <option class="vred" value="2" title="Token to Token">Token to Token</option>
                    <option class="vred" value="3" title="Token to VTR">Token to VTR</option>

1 = VTR

2 = TOKEN

'Token' doesn't seem to have a name, it it just 'TOKEN'. But it is part of coincontrol and it seems that you can exchange VTR's for TOKENs and vice versa.

You should also be able to send someone a TOKEN and have that converted to VTR's as soon as it is confirmed. I guess this token is the monetary unit of the BitTorrent module.

Interestingly, you can also use Tokens in an encrypted format (I think). Which means you can generate anonymous token payments.

These Tokens may not have any value outside of the VTR network, but inside the network, they are like BitTorrent money.

IIRC tokens have always been talked about by dev as the actual payment medium for torrents whereas VTR is what you exchange to.

Based upon discussion with Coins101 and myself we've come to the following semi-conclusion:

  • PoSv2 will automatically occur at block 1,200,000 (in about 36-48 hours or so)
  • By all indications PoSv2 should occur similar to ShadowCoin from which VTR is based upon; the code looks similar and as such it is unlikely something bad would occur
  • Any client running 0.8.x or later should be fine
  • If you run a 0.7.x client you will not be a part of the hardfork--please upgrade your wallet
  • According to the block explorer there is one client running 0.7.x--please upgrade if your IP is 51.9.90.x
  • By our understanding Bittrex (the exchange) already runs a 0.8.x wallet so should ideally transition fine
  • By our understanding Cryptoguru (currently our block explorer) already runs a 0.8.x wallet so should ideally transition fine
  • If you haven't done so already--BACK UP YOUR WALLET.DAT FILE

Coins 101 and myself have both made backups of the blockchain should anything unexpected occur and I invite others to do the same so that we have some form of consensus to roll back to if anything bad does occur (not expected, however it pays to have an umbrella if you by chance get rain)

Please keep in mind that you can backup your wallet at any point in time by simply hitting File > Backup Wallet

EDIT: Also please read Coins101's valuable advice on hardforks: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=889481.msg17336463#msg17336463

Quote
So a few things to take note of during a fork.

* Backup your wallet.dat
* Check your computer clock and your 2FA device clocks have the same time
* Don't send coins from an old client if there is a new official client
* Don't send coins until devs confirmed network is ok
* Don't let hackers scam you into clicking on a link - usually by quoting a link from a dev but swapping out the real link
* Download from official sources only - the official github, choose latest
* Don't use an exchange unless they have confirmed they are updated and have confirmed which fork they are running
* Use the Riot channel for support, but report any potential scammers to the mods within the vTorrent Riot channel
* I doubt anyone will have a vTorrent Classic fork, yet. Don't go joining some fake shake thread
* Delete your peers.dat file once upgrade is confirmed by devs. The file will form again
* Read devs forking instructions, twice

Assuming that it auto-forks I've taken a backup of the current blockchain on my computer on about 5 separate drives

wondering how the vTorrent works with bittorrent? sounds like an interesting idea, but anything concrete working?

Nothing yet. Waiting for the upcoming forks which may or may not have working bittorrent integration.

Nothing yet? so everything is just speculations and hope? Do devs have some concrete plan to make it happen? do they know exactly how this will work? I hope it is not a high level dream only...

Unless block 1200000 has a fixed fork in the current client, they can announce anytime they are ready. Could be tomorrow, could be next week. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

vTorrent-Client/src/chainparams.cpp

Code:
        nLastPOWBlock = 97000;

        nFirstPosv2Block = 1200000; // Hardfork v2
        nFirstPosv3Block = 1300000; // Hardfork v3

        bnProofOfWorkLimit = CBigNum(~uint256(0) >> 20); // "standard" scrypt target limit for proof of work, results with 0,000244140625 proof-of-work difficulty
        bnProofOfStakeLimit = CBigNum(~uint256(0) >> 20);
        bnProofOfStakeLimitV2 = CBigNum(~uint256(0) >> 48);

I'm not a programmer so I don't know what it technically means; but yes it is hardcoded into the client (whether that means it'll actually for or not, I do not know)

Its also referenced for the testnet (which has presumably been running for testing):
Code:
        nFirstPosv2Block = 110;
        nFirstPosv3Block = 500;

        bnProofOfWorkLimit = CBigNum(~uint256(0) >> 16);
        bnProofOfStakeLimit = CBigNum(~uint256(0) >> 20);
        bnProofOfStakeLimitV2 = CBigNum(~uint256(0) >> 16);
