do I need a full backup to keep the real name bot stuff?
Yes

"Buy Bytes with Visa or Mastercard" is now updated and allows to buy Bytes even without real name attestation. However, in this case there is no partial reimbursement of the (rather high) fees, and Indacoin will perform its own verification.
This update is useful for users who don't have Bytes even to pay for the attestation or just don't want their real name to be attested.

Today is a big day for blackbytes: now they can be sent to anyone, even if they are not in Byteball yet, no pairing required. This is huge! One question though (and I would test it myself, but don't want to upgrade yet): does the "black text coin" include bytes for the receiving party to be able to move the blackbytes to his wallet? If not, there's no use sending it to someone who doesn't use Byteball yet without adding a "normal" text coin. Yes, it includes just enough bytes to pay for the fees.

This is a mandatory update for all full nodes (both GUI and headless).
Great! I thought it would be nice to have your public pgp key published somewhere and sig file for future Byteball releases to ensure our downloads are not compromised by someone else. I don't use pgp (not user friendly enough for me) and it's not needed, the releases are digitally signed and the signatures are automatically checked by the OS. Don't expect regular users to mess with pgp.

Send BB by file sounds cool, but lets say I send a payment to two people simultaneously because I'm a cheater.
Will they both be able to import the file with no problems and see it in their balance or only the first one while the other gets an error?
If they can both import it, then as soon as one of them spends it will the other one find out immediately (as soon as the wallet is synced) or only find out later when he tries to spend it too and gets an error?
Of course only the first one will be able to claim the textcoins, the other will get an error when he tries.

Today is a big day for blackbytes: now they can be sent to anyone, even if they are not in Byteball yet, no pairing required. https://medium.com/byteball/private-textcoins-6a2288d80757This is part of version 2.3 released today https://github.com/byteball/byteball/releases* Blackbytes and other private assets can now be sent as textcoins. Private textcoins are files with .coin suffix, they can be sent over email, chat apps, or using a USB stick. The file contains the mnemonic, which allows to derive the private key, and private payloads together with their entire history, this is exactly the history which is *not* posted to the public DAG. Double-clicking the .coin file opens the app and starts claiming the textcoin (it can take a while as a long history needs to be validated), the file can be also drag-n-dropped to the app. * Ability to sign arbitrary message to prove one's address. The signer doesn't need to have any bytes. The text to be signed is offered in chat, the signer clicks it and signs. * Ability to spend unconfirmed funds. It will be enabled in the validating code at MCI 2909000 but standard wallets will not be able to select unconfirmed coins as inputs until the next update. Developer projects such as BIoT (which uses payment channels for streaming payments between IoT devices) can immediately take advantage of this update. It is a breaking change, all full nodes will have to upgrade. * Extensions of smart contract language. It is a breaking change, all full nodes will have to upgrade. * Fixes in determining finality of transactions. It is a breaking change, all full nodes will have to upgrade. * Fixes in multi-send feature on non-US locale. * Fixed the display of confirmation message when posting data (data feeds, attestations, etc) from a multi-sig wallet. Now the message includes the data being posted. * Multiple small bugfixes This is a mandatory update for all full nodes (both GUI and headless).

Another bot added to the Bot Store: Private chat room botThis chatbot allows several persons to chat together using the Byteball messaging system. The bot decrypts messages and relays them to other users after reencryption. For best privacy, run your own instance of this bot using the source code below, any cheap VPS is enough to host it. Developer: Papabyte, https://github.com/Papabyte/Private-chat-room

A new bot in the bot store: Exchange bot for dual-chain tokens For tokens issued both on Byteball and Ethereum platforms, the bot enables seamless exchange between Byteball and Ethereum tokens. It was developed by HDRProtocol team, partial source code is at https://github.com/HDRProtocol/exchangerThe bot currently supports two tokens: - TitanCoin - Nicebyte - the token that was recently spammed to our wallets and is apparently not backed even by promises. Nonetheless, it offers a good way to play with the exchanger. The developers think that bot might be useful for dual-chain ICOs as the Ethereum-based token will be easier to list on exchanges. It might work or not, but we'll keep the possibility open.

We recently participated as an external partner in a hackathon organized by Bosch. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gr4oe5gp6hxbzv9/Pimp%20my%20Connectory.pdf?dl=0Three teams used Byteball in their projects: Coffee paid by Bosch Coins - We want to sell some kind of premium coffee at the Connectory in Stuttgart. The coffee should be freshly brewed in a Bosch coffee machine which can accept Bosch Coins as a payment via the Bosch Coins Wallet (based on Byteball, https://byteball.org/). Bosch Coins is a cryptocurrency, which is implemented as an asset on the Byteball Network. Haithabu – the gamification approach to negotiations - What is at the core of every business and every trade? Easy: Negotiations with your business partners! Not so easy: Becoming experienced in negotiations is a key competence, however is also exhausting. The department CP/PSG3 (Advanced Awarding and Negotiations Applying Game Theory) have conceptualized a gamification approach that makes negotiation-training easy and a fun experience. They are looking for enthusiasts to translate it into action. DLT Smart Contracts Automated by Bosch Transport Data Logger Data - Bosch Transport Data Loggers aren’t just for track and trace applications, they can provide actionable data to automate and secure the procurement process. Using Bosch’s new cellular connected TDL 140, we will simulate the purchase and shipment of a carton of eggs, automatically executing DLT smart contracts when the asset enters geo-fenced areas or when control limits are exceeded. The end result will be either a safely delivered carton of eggs, or an automatic return and full refund! In particular, the coffee machine runs a light Byteball node on a Raspberry Pi. I was there and helped the guys learn how to use chatbots, payments, smart contracts, etc on BB platform. It was pleasure working with them! Another outcome of this event is that I had to (finally) write developer docs about smart contracts on Byteball https://github.com/byteball/byteballcore/wiki/Smart-contracts.

I’m pleased to let you know that Byteball team is growing. This week we welcome two new members, well-experienced and passionate about the project. Elena Tairova and Luke Angell will be respectively taking over Communications / PR and Partnerships / Events. Elena is a PR and corporate communications consultant with over 8 years experience of building and implementing large-scale campaigns for top global brands. Luke is an entrepreneur, growth consultant, startup mentor with a wide network of contacts in startup ecosystems around the world. You’ll get to know both of them better very soon as they introduce themselves in the upcoming weekly newsletter. I’m very hopeful with this reinforcement of Byteball’s team and certain Luke and Elena are going to be a good fit. Also, Eli is stepping down from his position as CMO of Byteball due to his additional commitments. After the discussion, we have made a decision to change the way we cooperate. Eli remains a Bytes holder and, together with us, looks forward to the project being not just at the forefront of technology but on the tongues of everyone. For the next month, I expect there will be more strategic reinforcements of the team at the top level. We will keep you updated on the developments. https://medium.com/byteball/our-team-is-getting-stronger-fc57830a9b4e

A small update: the price of email attestation is now reduced from 500 KB to 50 KB, so the reward received from the telegram quiz is now sufficient to pay for email attestation (and receive $10 in Bytes if your domain is whitelisted).

We keep improving Byteball as an investment platform, and today we are launching verification of accredited investors. Accredited investor attestation bot (which is already in the Bot Store) helps to go through verification and posts an attestation record to the DAG. Actual verification is outsourced to verifyinvestor.com which already provided this service to a number of ICOs. A licensed attorney checks the submitted documents and confirms the accredited status, then our bot (which is also a witness) posts the attestation record to the DAG. With this record, the issuers can easily see that an investor is accredited, therefore allowed to buy securities. The price of verification is $79.00 but if you are getting verified for the first time, the cost is reimbursed from the distribution fund if the verification is successful. There is also a $20.00 referral reward, also paid from undistributed funds. No we can easily host ICOs that sell Byteball-issued security tokens. This capability makes Byteball the only ICO platform on the market that allows to offer security tokens out of the box, just by flipping a switch. Since January, it also allows to enable KYC checks in the same way. Both tasks are a (small) part of what investment bankers do in the traditional investment world. If the ICOs are to evolve in this direction, the first steps are already done. Full story: https://medium.com/byteball/attestation-of-accredited-investors-d4a8dabf683b

One of our fans (MeneerT on bitcointalk) is organizing a video contest that will be funded from the undistributed funds.
Here are the rules:
Post a video about the unique features of Byteball you like the most. The best 2 videos receive rewards: $500 in Bytes for the best, $250 in Bytes for the second best.
You need to write in the title Byteball (so that we are able to find your video). Write your Byteball address in the description box of the video (so that we are able to send your bytes easily). Your video is new and at least 90 seconds long. The video must be uploaded from today to 1 May inclusive, and the link to the video must posted at least here or in #video_competition channel on slack.
Then, the community on slack, bitcointalk, and telegram will say which videos they like the most. Based on that and MeneerT's own preference he will make a selection of the best 5 videos and thereafter the community fund's trustees will take the final decision about the best 2.
The winners will be announced on May 7.
