501  Bitcoin / Mining / LargeCoin is scared of BFL on: July 25, 2012, 07:04:59 PM
Check it... Here is the email they just sent, asking the customers whether they think BFL's claims are possible:

What do you think of Butterfly Labs' ASIC performance claims?
As you've surely heard, Butterfly Labs recently announced a new "super computer" mining appliance capable of 1.5 THash/s. LargeCoin has analyzed the specs of this product and we are suspicious about Butterfly's claims. Still, if there's truth to their performance numbers, we wish them all the best.

What do you think? On a scale of one to ten, is Butterfly Labs telling the truth? Email us back and let us know your thoughts and insights. We appreciate your feedback.

Are the Butterfly performance numbers true?

the 32 bit part is a real buzzkill. you won't find many buyers who will sacrifice their > 4GB ram just to save some money.

I believe the serial will work with a 64-bit copy. Just download the trial from ms and use it to activate.
That is incorrect, OEM keys will only activate OEM media, not retail.
OEM keys are portable across bitness, so you can use a 32-bit key on a 64-bit media and vice versa. However the trial recommendation might not work. You can however find OEM media for download, just check to see that the hash matches the download from Technet and all will be well.

Whoa back there partner, Enterpoint made people wait months before delivery,
OK this is ridiculous. You are distorting the truth unnecessarily. In fact, the wait time was far less than any other competitor, period. Furthermore, no payment was accepted until the units were ready to ship.

then they are using a 'development' product,
No shit, sherlock. The same goes for ngzhang, ztex, and everyone else except BFL, who refuse to allow their devices to be used for other purposes.

so 50 days turn around from BFL easily matches the announce 2 delivery date of enterpoint, if you discount the fact the the CM1 is not performing as expected yet.
Actually, the current average wait time for BFL deliveries is 72.343 days, not 50. AND, you have your funds tied up the entire time, doing nothing!
You are also providing conflicting statements and views.
Really, wildemagic, you need to improve your outlook on life in general. You are currently being useless and not contributing anything of value. Go away.
505  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: escrow service - Definit on: July 25, 2012, 05:22:36 PM
Thank you for the heads up on the others who provide this type of service but the guy that I am dealing with requested someone specific that he trusts.
And who might that have been? The entire point of an escrow is that BOTH the buyer AND the seller trust it. If only the seller trusts it, how does the buyer know whether or not the escrow is just another sockpuppet of the seller?
The idea is that you are using a NEUTRAL third party to hold something during the transaction, and to arbitrate any disputes that may arise.
506  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] music - RockinBloozaBoogie - charting album & singles from The Lee Thomas on: July 25, 2012, 03:52:10 PM
Howdy - this album has done well on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc. But you don't care about those, because they only deal in fiat. Now I'm bringing this charting album to the Bitcoin world, where you can buy it either in entirety, or a la carte, from CoinDL.

From The Lee Thomas Band, I give you Forty Miles Of Bad Road:

https://www.coindl.com/page/item/293

Somewhere between the geographical soundprints of Detroit, Chicago, & Nawlins, cooks a brew known as RockinBloozaBoogie. And that's exactly what you'll get here. This album has done well in previous (dollar-denominated) digital release, with regional radio action and international chart success. It spent some time on MySpace Music's Global Indie Blues Album chart - staying in the Top 30 of that chart from April 2010 - May 2011 - over a year straight, reaching as high as number two Top Mover.

Yeah, I know - blah blah blah. Bottom line - if you like rock, and you like blues, and don't mind a little jazz/funk influence, it could easily be worth a couple minutes to listen to the previews at least. I think some of you might buy it. And listen to it. Repeatedly.

Thanks for your time. Once again, the number to call is https://www.coindl.com/page/item/293. Do it now! Operators are standing by!
I like this style, it's pretty cool.

Everyone that ordered here got their devices for $640
...
That is an assumption.

IIRC, *current* price *is* $960.

Which they have raised it to in violation of their promise not to do so until an 800MH/s hash rate was delivered/available.
That was only recently raised, and I shouldn't have said "everyone", however the correct answer is probably closer to "99% of all orders". But anyway, yeah. We don't know how many orders have been placed since after the price was put up, but I can be sure that it wouldn't be *more* than the total of the orders that were placed prior to the hike.

I wonder if this recent event had anything to do with what assumingly is currently going on with their Metro Bank account: http://www.topix.com/forum/drug/valium/TDB3N8TVV6R8HJ3KH/p2 (only need to scroll down a tad)

What the fuck am I reading? Huh Shocked

Keep in mind, once they do get a sufficient software solution for this board, everyone that owns one is going to be mining at significantly better price/hash rates than anyone who owns a BFL Single

BFL singles sell for $599 and hash at 830-880mh/s

CM1 sells for $960 and is speculated to hash at 800mh/s as (Xilinx XC6SLX150 x 4 / typical speed 200mh/s each)

any speculation on the maximum power draw for the CM1 once everythings optimized? trying to plan out my psu purchase. I'm guessing ~60 watts per board if they're running @ 1000+mh/s

Typical Xilinx XC6SLX150 based FPGAs use about 10w, so a quad board should be around 40w @ 200mhz/mhs.

kind regards
Everyone that ordered here got their devices for $640, and they may reach up to 1Ghs with an optimized bitstream. That is better than BFL.
An optimized bitstream is likely to pull more than 10 watts per FPGA, preliminary estimates are between 12 and 15 watts each.
512  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterflylabs Single (Rev. 1) Makes Strange Noises... on: July 25, 2012, 02:54:09 PM
It doesn't seem to be an issue with them; I did something similar to mine and was assured that as long as the thing still worked correctly, the fan mods would not change the trade-in value, and presumably by extension the warranty.

So as long as you can plug the thing in and get the expected hash rate, they are fine with it?
Seems so, but don't use too big a fan otherwise you might cause the board voltage to sag or burn out a fan regulator.

I routinely sell 1000 BTC there at 2% below gox price.  check the depth, I've been there almost every day for the last 2 months.
So you are actually helping pirate to bring the price down?
He's avoiding mtgox, problem?
While my previous statement was more a joke (see bitpays claim to trade against pirate), selling 2% below gox does in fact attract arbitrage traders (bots?). And arbitrage has several effects, first a lower gox price, and second this results in additional trades on gox, which ensures that gox stays the biggest exchange. If bit-pay would be selling for say 0.5% below gox, arbitrage would not be profitable, and some real buyers could buy those cheap coins.

True - however I start to wonder if the only reason there are any buyers in the first place is because arbitrage is profitable, and they wouldn't be there even if the price was consistently 0.5% lower than the gox. I wish more actual users would switch.

Exactly where did you get these?

I ask because OEM discs from the major manufactures must be used with those devices, so potentially you are selling very expensive coasters.
That would be recovery disks, which will only activate on manufacturers hardware. OEM disks however are produced by Microsoft, and come with a COA sticker and slightly different terms and conditions. Everything else is the same as retail.

You may pull too much amps  Wink

Just curious, would this void my warranty or no?

518  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL Mini-Rig Order Date/Ship Date on: July 25, 2012, 01:57:49 PM
I am happy to take the mini rig and pay the import tax in Poland at our Institute (http://bioinfo.pl). I can send it back to BFL when You decide You want to exchange it for the SC equipment. But You will probably find alternative offers from people who can host it. Maybe even BFL can host it. In fact I would be interested to make a deal with BFL to keep the obsolete FPGA equipment in our Institute because I can use the FPGA boards for bioinformatics applications later [we plan to do this].
Don't they already have something worked out with Inaba for local colocation?

Right. Their job is to have access to any and all information. Not to use it, but to be able to get it when/if needed.

This has to be sarcasm right?  Please tell me you honestly don't believe that.

I hate to make it sound like my tinfoil hat is screwed on too tight, but that seems to be the thing that is happening more and more lately. Knowledge at all costs without regards to some old piece of paper (The Constitution).

My uncle is a fiat millionaire. He's a little bit concerned that I'm more motivated about amassing Bitcoin wealth than paper money. He's still trying to convince me that inflationary papers have more value than cryptographically signed bytes.
Be sure to let him know that portfolio diversification is not necessarily a bad thing, although I'm sure he would know that already.
