141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what about trust / trustworthy devs on: November 27, 2015, 08:53:04 PM
Do a lot of alts have a trust problem? yes or no? and why?

i think yes. they have a trust problem. why should i trust someone that is hiding behind a pseudonym? i think a trustworthy dev can tell us his/her name.why should they not tell the public who they are if they do not want to scam someone.

what do you think?

why is satoshi anon again?

IMHO a REAL cryptocurrency does not need a dev which name/address is public.
crypto should work without any centralization and focusing on a dev just adds centralization.

get a team of independant devs which believe in the project is way better: they can check each other ;-)

in the beginning it may help to get starting capital and investors... but a currency should not be for shortterm!
142  Other / Meta / Re: Does Bitcointalk have traffic problems? The forum is loading very slow. on: November 27, 2015, 08:02:23 PM
i thought that too. but i had some of this problems (eh half loading pages) daily.
i had the same problem at my fathers house (telekom too) so i though it would be btct having some bandwith or cpu issues.

new isp (ok only until today...like 10hrs) no problems, and i have never seen this speed before (my connection speed didnt change that much; probably better route to the btct server though)

i will monitor it. but if theymos hasnt changed anything recently and it stays like that the next days i am convinced they cripple it: not sure why too
I've tested at least 4 ISPs in 2 different countries over the years (with and without VPNs) and I have never experienced any issues that others didn't have at that time (e.g. DDoS, 502 errors, etc).

interesting; 502 i got very rarely. half loading pages where common (at least for the last 3three month i got them daily)

Occasionally the website does load slowly for me too but I don't mind because that happens very rarely.

i am also from germany and i had many problems with bitcointalk: slow, sometimes only half of the page loads, cert errors.

i had this with congstar (mobile provider) and telekom as isp.

but i switched to unitymedia today and btct is fast - never seen it that fast before and no errors yet.

waning conspiracy theory: maybe some isp's cripples this site by intent?
145  Economy / Marketplace / idea for online bitcoin shops on: November 27, 2015, 05:21:19 PM
hi,

just had a small idea: what if bitcoin shops had this feature: buy this item if its cheaper than XBTC?
this would include BTC/USD conversation and product price changes.

the customer could deposit the money (and maybe withdraw it in case that after some time when his target isnt reached he doesnt want it anymore)

IMHO this should enable shops to plan better which should lead to cheaper prices (well at least for big shops. not sure if there are any atm)

please share your opinions ;-)
146  Other / Meta / Re: Trust system and moderation action. on: November 25, 2015, 11:23:49 AM
This thing is complicated and mods will have many problems if they get involved and start moderating every feedback left/reported.
I am with putting rules when should a DT member give a positive trust for example after a successful trade that worth at least 0.5 or 1BTC...etc, and when they should or shouldn't leave a negative trust (little hard tho)..
Trusts from non-DT members are useless but i support any action in order to remove any NT without a reference or from trust abusers...

i dont think ratings from non-defaulttrust members are useless. my trustlist contains people not on DT and i value their opinion
147  Other / Meta / Re: Trust system and moderation action. on: November 25, 2015, 11:14:42 AM
I'm so confused as well as to who can and can't give out trust, and how to get it removed.

 - anybody can rate anybody
 - you decide whoms rates you trust
 - if you want a rating removed: contact the person who has rated you

people who are trusted by theymos (and two levels below that) have more power, because many accounts automatically trust them (it shows as DefaultTrust in your trust list). you can remove that line if you want to maintain it yourself (i have kept defaulttrust, but added and excluded some in my trust list and changed the depth to 1)
148  Other / Meta / Re: Trust system and moderation action. on: November 25, 2015, 10:52:41 AM
anybody can decide whom to trust and edit his trustlist accordingly.

the trust-circle you want to have is there: its basically the trustlist of theymos which is the default for new users (and level 2 and 3).

IMHO the trust system isnt perfect but replacing it with a moderated one would be bad. i dont want that people i dont know (and maybe dont trust at all) can change trust ratings from people i specifically want to trust.

But the trust system right now is basically moderated. Moderated by DT members which have the power to make someone green or red with only 1 rating. You can give 100 good trust ratings to someone but if you are not in DT no one will care so in the end the system is still controlled by someone.

not true; many people (esp people who trade here) have customized their trust list and dt doesnt have power over them.

but as i said: trustsystem isnt perfect; but imho good enough
149  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can we proceed? on: November 25, 2015, 07:44:14 AM
so you can't do it with a video, you really need to view those items in real life?

it's hard to fake a video to be honest, i would go with such option instead

for ebooks and videos it is possible to use payment channels.
eg you pay per page or in case of a video per second you have watched it. when you have seen all you own it...

not sure if they are available and usable yet.
150  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Polonex , did anyone get their account frozen.. on: November 25, 2015, 07:32:35 AM
update , ..  maybe he got a point..  but as a miner and explorer new coins..  got to be more careful... but i hope they can address my issue

Your account is frozen because you have been making an enormous amount of very tiny deposits, please collect such deposits on your desktop wallet and then send larger and less frequent transactions to your Poloniex account.

Please let me know you understand and I will re enable your account.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Best regards,

I understand

and it still no reason to freeze my account,,, i should only have the right to request a to hold my account , your freezing my account prevented for me to fix the problem till now,,, your troll box is a poor example to the bitcoin community.. thank you

its not ok from them to freeze your account without just discussing this issue with you.

but i understand why they insist on bigger transactions: many small transactions cost them much fees when they have to send them out again.

btw have you checked their tos? do they mention that as a policy?

i think "eon" is a long period of time.

They are alternate spellings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeon

my bad. shoulda done my research.

More research: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeon_(Gnosticism) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aion_(deity)

Perhaps we should run with the Roman or Gnostic theme. Still a bit esoteric, but less geeky than units of time.

IMHO time and money goes well together. anyone remember "time is money"?
it may even fit better than "energy is money" because for people usually time is more important.

Gnosticism: i dislike the linkage to any kind of god or religion
deity: has some kind of time reference but still seems to be linked to religion (and the spelling is wrong)
153  Economy / Reputation / Re: Please give me negative trust. on: November 24, 2015, 01:56:11 AM
i have left you a neutral.

i see one problem with your idea (thats also why i think what you are doing is trust abusing): if many people do this its impossible to detect people who have already scammed someone because anybody starts in the red.

i'd like to see proven scammers in red - new people may not be trustworthy but someone who scammed is more bad and the rating should reflect that
154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DASH] The Perpetual "Darkcoin DASH and their lying community" Thread on: November 23, 2015, 02:50:35 PM

But but but... don't you know that if everyone is against you then it is a conspiracy and they are attacking you because DASH is the HOLY GRAIL of cryptocurrency?

did you watch indiana jones?
they picked the wrong grail....
155  Other / Off-topic / Re: Windows 10 marks the end of "pay once, use forever" software on: November 22, 2015, 12:10:19 PM
Of course, installing the latest updates for 7 means you're agreeing to the same snoopers charter. A search with miss google should point you at how to remove the spyware......

the problem with this is:
  • you have to trust google
  • you have to check again anytime a new updates for the ms spyware arrives

i need ms (well.. at least in a vm with a dedicated gpu) for some dx10+ games (and fallout4). i can live with them spying that machine. but i'd prefer they wouldnt.

but what is with HR departments? or hospitals?
156  Other / Off-topic / Re: Windows 10 marks the end of "pay once, use forever" software on: November 22, 2015, 11:49:05 AM
Not if enough of us just refuse to pay for Windows 10 in the first place and switch to Linux or Mac.

Isn't that like running away from a bicycle to end up getting hit by a train  Cheesy

i love my train (gentoo and qubes)
try to beat me with a bicycle ;-)

(though your example is not good... with linux i can go where no windows has ever been [eg filesystem snapshots, working deinstallations, good looking ui and so on] ;-)

It took me 15 years to relinquish my command prompt when I dropped Win 95 and went to xp (having started with Apple Basic and MS DOS and 300 baud modems).  Now I'm supposed to go back to command line again - sorry but this old dog refuses to learn new tricks. Bring on the holoscreens from Minority Report.

For pure work yes Linux/Unix is better but I still think Windows is has it for eye candy.  Good luck trying to get a 9 screen setup elsewhere. Mac can do it as long as you sell a kidney.... or 2.

to each his own ;-)
i prefer linux eyecandy over mac and win. and a 9-screen desktop setup is no problem with linux ;-)

i like, that if i buy a digital good the company doesnt know anything about me. not even my name
159  Economy / Economics / Re: USD taking it steps in cryptocrrency! on: November 21, 2015, 10:06:32 PM
USD is not entering the cryptocurrency market. The US Dollar is controlled by the US Government, and they are in no way shape or form entering the cryptocurrency market. Someone just made a coin called BitUSD (and they are allowed to call that coin whatever the hell they want) but it does not mean that the US government endorses that coin. In fact, it is just another shitcoin altcoin that is just going to die soon because no gives a shit about it.

the shitcoin is bitshares in that case though.
but bitusd is just a gigantic joke... as i stated above: if bitshares price moves for more than 25% bitusd is automatically liquidated to bitshares...

and 25% volatility is easy... even bitcoin has this still from time to time
160  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to escape mandatory keylogging on: November 21, 2015, 09:15:29 PM
Let me summarize:

1. even if keylogging was universally used, it would not be that easy to actually use it to gain complete control of BTC passwords and privkeys.

true, it seems atm there is no way for them to get privkeys for all (or most) users.

but if they want the keys for somebody specific they can do that and have various options (maybe a trezor like device helps; but only until trezor becomes big enough).
