421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are checkpoint servers a bad thing for a coin? on: September 19, 2015, 09:43:50 PM
In most POS altcoins, not in bitcoin there is this line in checkpoints.cpp

// ppcoin: sync-checkpoint master key
const std::string CSyncCheckpoint::strMasterPubKey ="you pubkey part of keypair goes here"

and then in the checkpoint servers  coin config you add checkpointkey=long-ass-privatekey-goes-here

With the actual keypair being replace in the sections after the = symbol

Most popular POS coins have this.

are you sure there are checkpoint-servers?
this would imply that some nodes have more control than others?

if thats true i'd avoid them like a plague (well i dont know / like POS anyway)
422  Other / Meta / Re: Why is non-consensual release of personal information allowed? on: September 19, 2015, 09:41:30 PM
why dont you respect his opinion then and just stop posting a link to his address?
its his property and he can do anything he wants here: in case you forgot
423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What features of Bitcoin would you never give up? on: September 19, 2015, 09:39:43 PM
I would remove Fungibility, bitcoin is the antithesis of fungibility.

How so?

Every bitcoin is worth the same.

sadly no:
through blockchain analysis its possible to see which coins where stolen.
would you buy them for the same price?

as soon as you put them in an exchange you account will get locked...

(thats the only reason i think coins like xmr have a chance in the future)
424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are checkpoint servers a bad thing for a coin? on: September 19, 2015, 09:36:01 PM
what is a checkpoint server?
in bitcoin a checkpoint is just a blockhash which is compiled in the wallet binary.

its just for checking that it downloads the correct chain and to counter a potential sybill attack while bootstrapping.

it is not that good because it adds some centralization. eg if you got your client from an unkown source you could be tricked in using a wrong chain: but if you dont trust the wallet source, you are fucked anyway (IMHO)

so please: rephrase your question Wink
425  Other / Meta / Re: [poll] Should doxing be banned? on: September 19, 2015, 01:55:08 PM
i voted yes.
a dox should be made by law enforcement and not by forum users.
426  Other / Meta / Re: Should people who promote ponzis in their signature be given a negative trust? on: September 19, 2015, 10:24:36 AM
its like saying someone who witnesses a rape and does nothing is innocent

Technically, someone who witnesses a rape and does nothing IS innocent.   Undecided

You can't force morality on people.  You can't make people believe what you believe.

Some people on this planet only look out for themselves.

It's depend in what country you are! In Russian law if you are witnesses a crime as rape and didn't help you are guilty.
Article 125 the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation

same is true for germany.
at least you have to call the police
427  Other / Meta / Re: Should people who promote ponzis in their signature be given a negative trust? on: September 19, 2015, 10:22:34 AM
When it comes to questions about how to use the trust system, I always try to assume the position of a complete newb.
Does my trust rating effectively warn the newb in a way that prevents him from falling for a scam?

I don't think that a newb will make a direct connection between the trust rating of a member and his signature, so the answer to the question above in this case will most likely be no. If there were a way to somehow flag the signature itself as untrustworthy, I'd totally do that.

perfect reasonable and i'll follow that advice.

i'd love to have a way to trust-rate sigs and/or ads here Wink
428  Economy / Gambling / Re: If i had enough money i would sue Bitcointalk.org on: September 18, 2015, 04:58:03 PM
A casino offers you a service, and you accept it, if win or lose, a casino doesn't care the result, mainly they want you to have fun.
It's like saying oh you know, I was in a stripclub yesterday, but they were all men.
Or I was in a bar and a girl was so cute I foundout only the day after she was a paygirl.

How about you go away and die? MTF People like you are the reason for all my gambling problem. Just go away. plz.

you obv have a problem.
why dont you seek professional help instead of blaming others?
429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just learning need help please. on: September 17, 2015, 10:15:47 PM
Yesterday I got a Btc off a friend who is big into this stuff and I have been trying to read up on what I can possibly do with this. I tried the trading, buy low sell high kind of thing and I've pretty much just stayed even. Any hints or something I can read to expand on what I can do with this Btc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ps use small words not crazy computer lingo please lol

bitcoin is essentially money so you are asking what can i do with money Wink
obviously you can spend it...

trading is very risky and most people loose more than they win (its a zero sum game: any cent someone wins, someone else has lost).

i'd recommend to start with looking at the details. eg look you address up at https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC or blockchain.info and learn about inputs/outputs and the inner works.

if i where you i'd just hold that bitcoin and try to get a bitcoin expert Wink

(btw be careful with alts. there MAY be some which look good, but they are all riskier than btc itself. so i'd suggest to get familiar with that first)

look at the newbies name...
431  Economy / Reputation / Re: About Vod on: September 17, 2015, 12:20:22 PM
i think its Ok that Vod has doxxed QS. he stated he wont make that info public (which i wouldnt support).
as QS took money from TF to sue vod i think its his right to defense himself.

i do not support calling his employer, family and so on (parents maybe: only if QS isa minor, but it seems he isnt).
thats just between vod and qs (and to a degree TF because he paid 20BTC for that)
432  Other / Off-topic / Re: How many posts did you report and with what accuracy? on: September 15, 2015, 02:59:16 PM
You have reported 9 posts with 89% accuracy

436  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Quickseller escrowing for himself on: September 14, 2015, 05:09:50 PM

I disagree. Parents are in no way responsible for what he did in the internet, it is not like you can watch over your kids 24/7 in the internet

if he is a minor they are!
btw they dont need to watch him/her 24/7 to be responsible. parenting doesnt work that way.

EDIT: do i smell fear?
437  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Quickseller escrowing for himself on: September 14, 2015, 04:29:44 PM
Don't dox QuickSeller. The forum hath decided with negative trust and loss of DT status. Anything more is just out of spite/anger and harms this forum more than helping it.

agreed

439  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Quickseller escrowing for himself on: September 14, 2015, 06:26:05 AM
Quickseller seems determined to take down Tomatocage with him/her, but in the long run they've both created a long term problem I don't think many people yet realise.

do you have a solution?
a simple copy script was discussed some pages back, but i dont think thats a good idea.

IMHO: anybody should just be aware when he trades here. the accounts you are talking about dont even have a posting history. i dont think many people will blindly trust them.
440  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Owner of IP address 73.225.159.251 is a hacker and tried to hack my account on: September 13, 2015, 06:32:10 PM
Then fuck off if that's what you would do. If you had CIRCUMSTANTIAL evidence like I said you would let the case build until it's solid. That is that

even if you have proof and such things you should give him his mail account back.

Read the thread. Read it again. Now you probably saw that I had someone on teamviewer watch this happen. He never gave up email access to start. Just because I'm not posting evidence doesn't mean a thing. I'll complete this and only post as little evidence as needed. He still doesn't know how I caught onto him and is trying to bullshit his way through this thread hoping you guys don't read the previous pages.

well i have read the thread.
i am not sure about your results and looking forward to see them (but as you said that will take a few days).

so you are saying you dont have access to his mail account? yes or no?
if you have it: you need to give it back. that simple...
