5728  Economy / Economics / Re: Reputation and Web of Trust on: August 10, 2010, 02:08:40 AM
There's already a thread about this here.

Looking to see if somebody will start a FOAF or write one. If not the case, I'll volunteer to write one for 50 bitcoins per week. (I know I have not been coding lately but...)

So I noticed that people are posting on a thread listing honest traders. Perhaps, the next stage is to write/make use of a decentralized reputation system, like a web of trust.

I saw that all the old auctions are gone. Maybe it would be better behaviors to keep old listing? The idea is that people get to see that the site actually get used.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Satoshi Nakamoto" is an alias, since he speaks perfect English and I haven't seen anything else from him (though I haven't really looked).

I saw a profile on p2p social networking thingy that say he's from Japan.

Good point, I thought I read this in another article online. In any event, I'll either remove it or check with the source himself Smiley....

An interview with Satoshi would be interesting.
5734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: help! Bitcoin Article to be published, please review on: August 09, 2010, 01:33:07 AM
Its creator is Satoshi Nakamoto, a libertarian computer programmer and cryptography expert. Bitcoins are digital tokens of value that can be exchanged anonymously between users across the internet or stored on disk. Bitcoin serves the purpose of not just a currency, but also of an online virtual banking system.

Are you sure that Satoshi Nakamoto is a libertarian? We don't know much about other than he wrote a technical paper and invented bitcoins.

It looks as if the two main markets, bitcoinmarket and mtgox, are stabilizing around 5.5-6.5 USC/BTC.  The outliers and quartiles have been tightening for days now, and now the values are centering in that range.  Thoughts?  Could it be that we've established a market value?  That would be a major step toward currency confidence and widespread public use.

I think it means that the market is now maturing since we now have lot of bitcoin volumes to work with. However, a big bitcoin "killer business" will cause a sudden growth spurts, thus wide oscillation in the bitcoin economy. This just mean we have established ourselves a working economy. Now people will need to to work toward a killer business that will encourage major growth.

Keep in mind...  We are trying to create a new currency, not a personal money tree for everyone.

Are we creating a new currency or competing with PayPal and the like as a payment service?  The two are very, very different...and we're back here again...

Better payment service help grow acceptance of the bitcoin currency.

Winland

Ukraine and Denmark are added. Winland is not added.

Agorists are anarchists who don't think voting won't work. So they advocate subversive but nonviolent and beneficial behaviors.

I'm having trouble parsing that. You say agorists do think voting will work? Or just that this isn't a good enough distinguishing characteristic from libertarians? I agree that some libertarians don't believe voting is good if that's all you mean.

Sorry for the double negative there. I was not thinking clearly when I wrote it.
