I'll be on the St. Claire across the street from the Marriott from Thursday noonish. Anybody else planning on going to the GigaOm meetup at the Tech Museum that evening ?

I'd like to attend, but I'm not sure if I will be getting to town in time.

I am looking forward to the convention.  I have a 3-4 night reservation on the couch at the in-laws about 3 miles away.

We got our replacement packages and got all the girls set up this past weekend.

Combined number of stings for everyone this year..... ZERO! Smiley

We have a couple big orders happening in the next couple weeks before the Bitcoin Convention, and a camping trip this weekend, so if anyone wants items for Mother's Day to arrive on time, make sure the order gets to us right away.  Any bitcoin orders that come in before Mother's Day we will throw in a beeswax lip balm for free.

Also, if anyone is going to the Convention and want to skip on the postal fees, I would be happy to bring your order and give them to you in person.

Just when the kids thought summer vacation was withing grasp.... Some new classes for them to do.

At least these classes they will enjoy.

Summer vacation are outdated concept. You should always at the minimum takes one hour to learn something new or practice old skills everyday.

They don't really get a summer vacation.  They have several "required" books to read beside their own books, and they usually start science fair projects for the next year, plus they spend about 30 hrs a week working for Bees Brothers.

Learning some cryptography and Quickbooks are the two big topics for this summer.

But these tutorials will be something we can watch together that they would be interested in.

270  Economy / Speculation / Re: What does this do to BitPay? on: April 11, 2013, 04:22:56 PM

Customer pays BTC. Bitpay credits customer account in USD. Bitpay then sell their BTC at the relevant rate.

Not all of BitPay's customers get USD.

We keep all our sales in BTC.  But we are a really small business.

2013 Almond Pollination

There are 800,000 acres of almonds in California which require 1.6 million honey bee hives for pollination.  2012 was a not a good year for most of North American beekeepers and the bad news was followed up by heavy winter losses.  With a shortage of hives available for the almond pollination, and those hives that were there not as strong as usual, almond prices are already going up.

We will be purchasing more almonds soon, and at that time will need to raise prices on our “honey roasted almonds”.  But we will keep the same pricing now with our present inventory.  Just a heads up.

We have new hives ordered and receive them in two weeks.  Several bee suppliers are running short and are already sold out or oversold.

Bees and bitcoin…two roller coaster rides at the same time!

My point is...either plan to pay the taxes on your BTC, become an outlaw, or go to prison...those are the only options!

Some outlaws pay taxes and stay out of jail.  Wink

I explained bitcoin to my accountant yesterday...he was very interested. I told him to wait a couple weeks before he looks into it more, otherwise he will get sucked in and be late getting taxes in for all his clients.

He told us to count all our sales as a regular income, and then later when we cash out to deal with capitol gains at that point.

Everyone keeps talking about cashing out...I don't get it!

The only time you owe the IRS a dime is when you make money...meaning US DOLLARS!!!

If the whole idea of BTC is to create a new currency that's free market...why "cash out"? As soon as everyone cashes out, the government gains and BTC loses!

While the whole BTC theory and concept is great...the "cash out" mindset is what will ultimately keep it from ever succeeding. People just can't think outside of Dollars...at least not here in America!

While I have never "cashed out" bitcoin into USDs, I have bought lots of things with btc.  When things are bought with btc, the IRS thugs consider that "cashing out" even though they never touched USDs.

Also if some of those btc purchases are business expenses they can be used to lower your tax liability.

Talking to an CPA about hypothetical "cash outs" is not going to keep btc from succeeding, but allow you to stay in business another day to accumulate a little more btc.

the US tax law is absurd, ...

I think a good way to start to fix it would be to allow everyone to deduct the time and money it takes to attempt to comply with their absurd tyranny.  That would clean it up real fast.

Just spent two very late nights trying to comply with this crap...should be done by this weekend.  I get more angry every year having to waste my time, and then be forced to "donate" to an organization that increasingly tramples and destroys individual rights... which is the opposite of what government should do.

I feel dirty and abused doing taxes  Angry

Freedom is not free.  Your freedom is paid for with money and the blood of patriots.

That's the truth!  You have to pay the government, and then you need to help fund numerous organizations to help protect you from them!

We checked our all of our bees this weekend and we have 100% of them dead from the winter!! Angry Cry

Too many consecutive days with temperatures below 0 degrees this winter.  The bees had plenty of honey in the hive, but due to the prolonged cold, were not able to move the cluster to where the honey was stored.

We just put an order in for 20 hives.  Might have to put off buying our own extractor for another year.

Still have plenty of honey from last fall's harvest, but might run out before the next harvest.  (I guess that would be a good problem).
278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Relationship Thread: G/F, Wife, Significant Other...etc... Tales... on: March 27, 2013, 10:20:32 PM
When ever I think about selling some btc, my wife talks me out of it.  When ever she thinks about selling some I talk her out of it.  So far its worked very well!
But last night... we stayed up late and spent a bunch of btc at the bitcoinstore.  We have been needing a couple more computers and finally bought them along with some other things.

Often we discuss where that valid line of government should be (usually in the libertarian/anarchist spectrum) and how such should/could be implemented.

She doesn't "waste" her time on the forums, but she stays informed of all the drama, news, happenings.  We would both be attending the Bitcoin conference, but we have a little baby and she has a sister in San Jose.  So she's making me go convention, while she has a vacation.

And my daughter, she gets insulted if I offer her cash instead of btc for helping with Bees Brothers or any other paying job.  So her $6 coins have treated her well.

Our biggest area of disagreement tends to be if certain politicians should be shot or hung. Wink
279  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-03-25 CNN: 'Funny money' has officially entered the real world on: March 27, 2013, 03:31:50 PM
Shouldn't it be "real money has officially entered a funny money world"?

When reading from CNN you need to translate their Orwellian Doublespeak (funny talk into real talk).

Another example of CNN Doublespeak is the picture of Monopoly money representing "funny money".
The reality is that Monopoly money has out performed Federal Reserve notes.
