Supercomputers aren't cheap to run. Just ask any Cray customer about their cooling and electric bill.

You have just mentioned some very important points there. Electric bill is one important factor to calculate in but in addition You need to care of proper cooling as well that also is a factor you are advised to keep on your mind while it is not a problem. A friend's computer flew away because he has not minded mining necessitated advanced cooling that in many cases were different than the cooling you were using for your current daily tasks on your computer.

You have the chance but since it is minimal I recommend searching a better solution. BTC mining has gone through a significant development since it was born and now there are some "new", effective possibilities as well as some fading ones and solo CPU mining is part of the last unless you have some kind of super computer. You always can play the lottery, though.
1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ransomware covered by CCTV on: May 04, 2015, 06:33:26 PM
Guys, nobody has answered my question so far:

This trojan has to be ran by the victim right?
And it's send through email?

Much viruses and malware need the user of the computer, aka victim, to run an unsuspected file to be infected. Email is only one of the main source of these malwares. Others ways include plugging in a usb flash disks, downloading and viewing a pdf document.

PDF documents?
How does that work?
I have never heard of that before.
This is the first time I heard that.

There is a way called extension spoofing. Using the appropriate tool anyone can do it and it can be used to trick users download and run malicious files as well as files with malicious code attached to them. You can use extension spoofing on a huge variety of extensions but besides PDF is an especially vulnerable extension.

It's important to save backup frequently. These days there are many easy to use and reliable cloud based and physical storage to store your data so in most cases it's up to you to take care of it.

Many of the ransomware cases were done with insider help. Profit is shared half half with the Russian coder.

This. Someone had been infected with a ransomware that detected the user's nation and asked for ransom in his language and in BTC. It even offered an exchange service to use to convert the national currency into BTC lol This person had important files on his HDD so he decided to pay the ransom in the way the program asked for it and in the end his computer got unlocked.
1145  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Turning off miners on: May 03, 2015, 10:17:50 PM
As the difficulty of BTC mining is changing, you may turn off unprofitable miners but most of these turned off miners are solo miners and still there are networks that are profitable. You must calculate for yourself wether your miners still worth working or not.
1146  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Scan QR to Login on: May 03, 2015, 09:19:20 PM
Useful code and thank you for sharing it us! Since anyone can read its source code, actually I have only one question about the project. Although I haven't fully explored your whole project yet, I wonder how is it better than the other similar projects out there?

Clef would more attractive for business applications https://getclef.com same method, thought with 62+ thousand organisations using it with their users

I can recommend the same, though. An organisation I was into was using Clef and users were satisfied with it.
1147  Other / Archival / Re: Help Me Plz? on: May 03, 2015, 07:06:56 PM
The code you are asking for reminds me of someone's request I read somewhere. Even though the one who had requested has paid for it but if I remember correctly, the code has later been made open-source and a simple documentation has been added to it too. I am not an expert but people who seemed to be that tested and have confirmed it as a reliable code. You could look around and update your thread when you find it so others could find it easily.

In other case, you always could offer a certain amount of cash to someone to write it for you or if you have the time, it is something you could personally write with some effort using the information you can get online even if you are not an expert coder.

However, this last option necessitates time and true effort so if you are unsure, I recommend the first one.
1148  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [ANN] New bitcoin development mailing list on: May 03, 2015, 01:52:44 PM
Thank you for sharing us this information!

Mailing lists are different than forums but also their purposes are different. However, as within a forum, within a mailing list there is a kind of mailing list etiquette that if people disregard the whole thing can turn out in the uncomfortable way. If used in the professional way, it could be attractive, though, just like at forums with professional administration and strict moderation.

Anyway, why not to use BitMessage?
1149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who would like better PHYSICAL storage? on: May 03, 2015, 11:55:49 AM
I am much interested in a BETTER physical storage if it is not expensive. Actually, I am using a cheap (but good quality) USB for this purpose and it does its job well. However, if you have a reliable idea of a mobile, quick and easy to use alternative, I am open-minded to read about it in case it does not necessitate special reader since I can use my current USB almost anywhere.
1150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Do It! on: May 03, 2015, 11:06:43 AM
Even though BTC is different at some points than the cash we are using in the restaurant - for instance -, the human nature is the same and people do illegal activity with or without BTC for various purposes and because of a big variety of reasons. I appreciate the effort you put into writing this thread but I think it will not be an effective attempt to break down illegal activity.
1151  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: May 03, 2015, 09:51:53 AM
Trezor just fine for me actually. Although they had a road to go, as of now it seems rather secure and they put the effort into keeping it that way.
1152  Other / Off-topic / Re: If BTC goes to $1000 or more, what would you do? on: May 02, 2015, 10:00:34 PM
I would sell some in order to make some cash I could use for different purposes but I would keep most of my BTC until I need to sell some again. From the remaining part I would continue supporting my current BTC projects and I would have the chance to realise projects that are sleeping as plans now awaiting for THE time.
1153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Satanic Temple of Detroit now accepts BTC Donations on: May 02, 2015, 06:07:01 PM
Very well. I am glad to hear another organisation accepts BTC as more may follow this example. Being a satanist is other what most people think it is. In order to understand it you need to open your mind first and go deeper into understanding. Take BTC as an example. People often do not get it or get it wrong in spite of that fact it's an innovative and extremely useful possibility. Again, people often get satanism wrong but in order to judge BTC wrong you need to be member of these two groups at least. If you know the real nature of BTC, you do not judge it bad just because a satanic organisation accepts it as well. If you know the real nature of the mentioned satanic organisation, you do not judge it bad just because you heard some false information about BTC. So, this fact could build a negative image only in those peoples minds who do not understand BTC anyway.

By the way, is this organisation any related to the Church of Satan?
1154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.10.1 has been released on: May 02, 2015, 03:28:04 PM
You may upgrade since the users I have discussed it with reported no serious problems and I neither experienced such thing. If the previous version works well at you, why would you not upgrade? And if the previous version was bugged at you, the new one may solve your problems. Anyway, enjoy and feel free to write a feedback how the process went! It was just fine at me.

In the Enrollment Document what does SigStartPost mean? I am asking it because I was wearing the signature from post 1 and I have 17 posts now so I do not understand what does 11 mean at my username. Proof when I joined the campaign. Also we had discussed in private with bitclever RIGHT BEFORE I wrote my first post at this forum.
sigstartpost is from where u have started ylur weekly post

I see. Then how could I start from 11 when I've written the enrollment post on April 22, 2015, 07:40:13 PM which was my first ever post on this forum and had my next post on April 22, 2015, 08:06:32 PM? If you check my post history on bitcointalk, you see.

1158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Image of BitCoin on: April 25, 2015, 09:13:22 PM
Lately I had an awkward conversation with someone who was shocked when he heard I was into BTC. He said he thought BTC was illegal to use and it was not worth to care with. I was "Wtf" and asked where he got this information from. Read somewhere he said. In fact, this person is not alone with his opinion. I discussed with many who totally got BTC wrong just read something about it and built a shady image of it in their mind. I think, a wall in front of BTC is that is it not understood by many. In order to get the right image of BTC you need to be open-minded at some level since it truly IS different than the cash most people use every day. By time it could change within the society, but the question do we want it?

What are the advantages and disadvantages - in your opinion - that BTC is unknown for many?
What image have people around You of BTC?
1159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What happens is BTC is sent to incomplete address? on: April 25, 2015, 08:53:00 PM
No worries. You see error from client due to invalid address. BTC addresses are encoded and there are certain rules of validation before the transaction would be made. So your transaction won't happen. That's something I tested and can confirm. These are strict rules and I think you cannot easily bypass them. If you can, remember to tell me how you did it : - ) However, even if the client sent the transaction, the network wouldn't accept it so you will not lose your BTC.
1160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you mine it or buy it? on: April 25, 2015, 08:38:29 PM
I solo mined it at first. It was profitable in that times and soon we had a team based on BTC mining too. Besides mining I have seen the chance in trading as well so I started and soon became major trader within some communities. These days I focus on BTC related developments as investor and / or developer since my studies are related anyway. One fun fact is I still am together with the same friends we started BTC mining in the old times but now we are a developer team and focus on projects. That's how I've done my things. Now, although You still could make profit with smart mining related investments, I wouldn't suggest starting solo mining as it became very expensive. If you need BTC fast and simply, I recommend buying these days.
