421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [PROPOSITION] Bitcoin international promotion campain crowdfunding on: July 07, 2012, 01:06:18 PM
If you look at how many people (and I mean people with their own audience, like Jon Matonis, Max Keiser and now bitcoinmagazine.net) were trying to get public attention to the bitcoin for the past few years, you might think that there is nothing more we can do. I believe we could crowd fund bitcoin advertisement campain through GLBSE. Hire a team of professional PR managers, and plan through a year long campain. I know this sounds like an expensive proposition, but I believe its our chance to prove community and potential startups that bitcoin can be used as an efficient economic and financial tool. In fact, every bitcoin miner should be directly interested in bitcoin promotion, as its the only way to increase btc/usd exchange rate or even have whole industries using btc, thus entirely eliminating the need for exchange. By crowd funding the ad campain, costs per person should be minimal.
There are a few areas I personally believe should have our closest attention. Everyone probably have heard of bitcoincard.org. It looks so cool, to the point that many think its just can't be real. That product have been confirmed to be real by many famous in btc community parties, like Mr.Gavin, bitinstant.com and etc. They propose to have processing nodes installed in shops and other public places. I was thinking maybe they could also be placed inside cargo trucks (rented out to truck owners or drivers) along with cheap ASICs like Jalapenos in one configuration, so the node could give some benefit as well and reduce transaction processing fees of those nodes. So you could be driving on a highway and get your transactions processed while you pass a truck with bitcoincard node. Another place to use these cards is Africa. Its a very popular place for micropayments, but atm the market is taken by mobile phone payments. I believe there is room for bitcoin there.
The most obvious industries for bitcoin to capture are online software shops, music shops, maybe we will see online cinemas in near future...basically any digital content which could be delivered immidiately. Also international students should be targeted as potential bitcoin users. Taxi companies, the list goes on...
Please share your thoughts on the subject, and maybe will'll be able to come up with a sound GLBSE startup plan.
422  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: There is a way we can trade Bitcoin without getting shut down constantly - read on: July 07, 2012, 06:44:29 AM
As far as I can see, there is no way for the bond issuing company to back their bonds, without buying bitcoins beforehand. The mechanism of synchronizing ownership of btc with ownership of bonds is nearly impossible. The only thing that comes into my mind is having some large portion of btc to be in possession of this company, say 210,000btc, or 2,1mil btc and according number of shares to be issued for trading at stock exchange. But what if you own the share and want the btc it's backed up with? What if demand and supply for btc is different from one for those shares? Would it be possible to liquidate shares when the owner demands the gold...erm, btc it's backed up with? Or automatically issue new ones when company purchases more btc? I've seen someone stating that in order for btc to be legally recognized, it has to be some country's currency.
So, how much does it cost to register a new country? Let's say it's located on the Moon, and btc is it's currency. Whats next? Smiley))

I would create a satellite and launch it into orbit then register it as a sovereign nation. I would then sell small parts of its surface as "land" for bitcoins. This country by design would be entirely online. There might be a bitcoin client onboard and a wallet.

Dont know how to stop the space shuttle from raping it though!

That's out of question. Chinese already tested their ability to take down satellites, and in short time Russia and US should be able to do the same.

424  Local / Майнеры / Re: BFL ASICs on: July 06, 2012, 06:02:29 PM

Nice shop, but mostly hardware??? C'mon, btc gives you such an opportunity to sell downloadable software in seconds, you have to use it. I'd love to buy all kinds of soft with btc. If you make an efficient platform for software devs to sell thir soft on your site, that'd be epic. I'll try to convince such site to use btc. But it's aimed at Russian audience. Good luck.

Although I ordered on 23rd, it took me 1 extra day to pay via wire transfer. Normally it takes 2 business days, but I paid extra for speed processing. So you can use either dates as you wish.

I purchased a MiniRig in May. I paid it on 23rd of May and I got the confirmation e-mail on 30th of May. The ETA for the delivery was between 23rd of Aug and 13th of Sept.

I signed for the Upgrade on 27th of Jun and i got the wire transfer instructions on 30th of Jun (saturday). I paid the requested amount on 4th of July. I beleive it will arrive to BFL at the end of this week or early next week.

My order number for the Mini Rig SC is 2360.

BFL,
could you please give us an estimate how many units will be shipped out at the first round?
Everyone wants to know the size of the first round Smiley. Could it be a continuous production though?

Smiley

432  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] OpenBitASIC : The Open Source Bitcoin ASIC Initiative on: July 05, 2012, 03:36:54 PM
I really wish I knew jack about these ASICS. I swear to god there has to be a way to just f'in get this done. There are about ten different business models we could use that would be a win for everyone involved as opposed to just one monopolistic player like we have now.

If the community could come together and do this ASIC thing right, we could have a petahash going in no time and everyone could get a reasonable profit out of it.

Put it all on P2Pool and boom, mining is all set and we can all just focus on bitcoin adoption.
Good idea. Have a team of experts in each area required. Come up with some real design, produce and sell to those who invested time/efforts at its cost. Competition is always good, and this time Bitcoin just might be in short for that. If everyone in community is involved, then it might have enough funds.

You should be able to get at least twice as much, as you offer on that web site. Greed is bad
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoincard.org on: July 04, 2012, 12:34:38 PM
I wish I could buy some too. Before reading this thread, to me it looked more like a scam. Fancy video, not much info, tried to contact them - no reply, only a Bitcoin address to send the money. Once they show up here on the forum and give some real contact details, I might be interested to invest some real buck. Also, nodes at shopping malls is good idea, but what about other locations? Think cars (precicely trucks).
437  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Bank Wire Status on: July 04, 2012, 11:34:29 AM
I just received final confirmation on my order after wiring the funds 6/28. They also confirmed the effective date of my purchase. Given how busy they are, I'm pleased with how they handled my order.
At least they're getting somewhere. My payment was wired now almost a week ago. The problem with this silence is if something gone wrong, they will find it out only when they get to your order. With wire transfers its not a good idea to have a few weeks of response time...

I'm giving them a benefit of the doubt, for now, since they have been faster in response on wire transfers before. This new product line is apparently overwhelming their capacity. So, it seems it is not neccessarily a complete lack of right intentions on their part. After asking BFL, I did get a brief email that the wire was received, and was told that customer service was still going to do a formal reply of receipt. So, all that to say you're not alone, since your delay issue appears to be the same as this and others. Putting a light on this existing delay for those that wired funds is one of the reasons for this thread. One question: Is it an unwarranted concern?

You can at least verify with your bank that your funds were received at the destination. And since this is apparently a common issue, consider giving them a full work week to respond before asking about a formal notice of funds received.

BTW: I'm not sure if you are oversea's or not, so keep in mind, tomorrow is the 4th of July holiday in the states. Often, companies give two work days off during this week. BFL shouldn't be any different.

Yes, I know that they're swamped with orders Smiley. Just posting for informing that we're all in same position. I've sent some extra, just in case the transfer gets charged on their side too. Smiley

i'll be d*mned!  looks who's back!  welcome TraderTimm.  we missed you.  glad to see you didn't give up entirely.

Ponzi's don't bounce and this latest rise is healthy and sustainable.

I've been busy Smiley

Good to see ya, cypherdoc. I feel the current monetary problems around the world will be a catalyst for bitcoin.
