441  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is best practice for gambling?? on: July 03, 2018, 08:19:53 AM
I think gambling tends to bring with it some of the more negative aspects of life, including drinking, arguments and substance abuse. However, these things only occur if you are in with the wrong circles, or playing at the wrong venues. Playing online tends to get rid of the physical downsides, but can lead to an addiction as its simply so easy to access and play whenever you want. I think the culture can be great if you take the right path, but more often than not it's not a great culture to be part of.

I think one of the best practices is therefore not getting in with the wrong crowd, as they can lead you down a very destructive path, whereas if you get in with the right people at the right time, you stand to win a lot of profit. Also, stay away from pure luck based games unless you've got money to blow, or are genuinely entertained by the game.
442  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why gambling is portrayed negatively almost everywhere? on: July 02, 2018, 05:36:35 AM
In some ways it's a great time for gambling. There are a lot of new casinos and sportsbooks opening lately that give out some really nice welcome offers. But there are also a lot of scam sites looking to take advantage of the hype. I think if you are digilgent, and use as many welcome offers and bonuses as you can get, then it's a great time to be playing, and only likely to get better soon as poker takes centre stage.

Despite this, gambling still gets a lot of negative association due to the horror stories of it ruining peoples lives. The media is mostly geared towards sharing the two extremes of the spectrum, e.g. huge winners and huge losers, it forgets that the 99% of players fall somewhere in-between, neither losing too much money, nor winning much either.
443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why More Bounty Scam? on: July 02, 2018, 05:31:48 AM
Your thread title and your OP don't match? But regardless, I think that the number of scam projects is roughly the same as it was 6 months ago in terms of ratio, but now we also have to contend with the fact that a large fraction of ICOs are doomed to fail. There is simply not as much money in the market as there was last year due to the price crunch. If an ICO fails, the bounty doesn't get paid, so you stand the chance of being either scammed, or backing a crap project that fails to generate its tokens at all.
444  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it pre-entry whales stage? on: July 02, 2018, 05:21:30 AM
Bitcoin is just experiencing one of its common fluctuations, +/- 10%, this isn't really an indicator of anything substantial, just trading roughly sideways. If it drops more than 10%, then you can assume we have entered into another bear phase, and we might see sub $6,000 again. Similarly if it pushes to about $7,300 we might see another rally back past $10,000.
445  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Learning to trade on: July 02, 2018, 05:14:01 AM
Day trading I would say is not as beneficial as long term holding. It is somewhat high risk and there is potential that you won’t even make any profit that day. I believe long term trading is more beneficial and you should investigate it! I have done long term trading/holding it has made me over 20BTC. Too bad that was a long time ago and I sold out before it reached anywhere near its current value, definitely a mistake, but not one I will make again!

If you think about the energy cost when it comes to day trading it can easily consume your life, whereas holding is just a singular event that takes place once (at initial purchase). So unless you're ready to put your life into this, and dedicate 8+ hours a day to effective day trading then you probably won't make as much money as you expect. Avoid it unless you really can focus for extended periods of time.
446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I am going to invest 10BTC to different altcoins on: June 29, 2018, 07:44:24 PM
I don't have time to fill in your form for high potential coins, in fact, you shouldn't be asking people to give up their time for you in that way to begin with. But I'll point your gaze towards a few high prospect coins:

NEO - Excellent smart-contract functionality and community

Zilliqa - The front-runner for sharding tech as far as I'm aware

Quarkchain - Another scaling coin, currently massively undervalued, has huge potential to pump

Monero - Privacy coins are likely to be big in future, you can't get more secure than Monero

Iagon - Distributed computing is the future
447  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Frustrations: Losing Streak on: June 29, 2018, 07:40:41 PM
A losing streak is bound to happen eventually, and likely to happen ever so slightly more often than a winning streak if you're playing purely luck based games. I think it's important to realise when you need to take a break, a streak only becomes a streak if they're concurrent losses. Take a break, or switch to a different game and try your luck there. Just remember the last time you had a winning streak, and realise that now the odds are balanced as expected by chance.
448  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Pacquiao vs Matthysse July 15 2018 on: June 29, 2018, 07:47:49 AM
Anybody know why this fight was delayed? I thought it was scheduled for June, but looks like it's been pushed back another month.

Pacquiao is already closing in on 40, let's not make it any worse! That being said, it looks like he'll have some problems against Lucas, he's been out of the game for a while, and Lucas has performed very well recently. Looks like a 50/50 fight.
449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it ok to convert my BTC savings to Tether when the price is high? on: June 29, 2018, 07:41:51 AM
Yes, that is a common strategy among traders, it goes something like this:

1. Buy in at a low price, e.g. $6,000
2. Wait until a small bull run to around $6,300
3. Tether it
4. Wait until it dips back to ~$6,000
5. Buy back in
6. Wait until a small bull run to around $6,300
7. Repeat

Doing this you can net yourself some small, but eventually significant micro-gains.
450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese investor loses $400,000,000 in Bitcoin on: June 29, 2018, 07:39:32 AM
I remember there being news about this, people noticing that somebody had purchased 100,000 bitcoins during the dip, not sure how they worked out it was a Chinese investor though, unless somebody previously claimed ownership over the account and then proved it. I guess we're lucky he's not selling out, because that amount of coin could just crash the market on its own.
451  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you find Success in Gambling? on: June 29, 2018, 07:36:44 AM
I've actually had quite some decent success in gambling. But that's probably because I stick to betting on sports that I know absolutely every detail about, and playing PVP games rather than playing against the house. I really wouldn't matter if I became addicted to gambling because I rarely lose, so I would only end up being an extremely rich gambling addict. I guess having an addiction is only a problem when it starts to negative impact your life, like being addicted to dieting or working out.
452  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Life with a Gambler - Solution! on: June 28, 2018, 08:11:50 PM
I think that there should be a notice on the front of casinos that actually provides this kind of supports for families. I know that some countries have mandatory requirements to inform guests about the risks of gambling, but there should definitely be some measures taken. I know that it's a rare case for gambling to become a problem, but there should be some attempts to reducing this issue, as it has a negative impactive on the gambling scene as a whole.
453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $300 million transferred for 4 cents in fees! on: June 28, 2018, 08:03:04 PM
Amazing. I'm actually surprised they didn't put a higher transaction fee though, I mean 4 cents is just risky! This is $300 million we're playing with, not 5 bucks. Maybe they wanted the transaction to go unnoticed so they slipped in a low fee, perhaps for a double spend attack afterwards. But either way, this transaction does completely demonstrate the potential of Bitcoin, it would be an absolute circus trying to move $300m between countries, particularly if those two countries are not exactly on friendly terms with one another, e.g. North Korea and the U.S.
454  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Fortune Jack a Scam or are they Legit? on: June 28, 2018, 07:57:54 PM
Why would you ask such a dull question? FortuneJack is one of the oldest and most trustworthy casinos on bitcointalk, or in fact, in the entire crypto sphere. Of course you are going to find some negative reviews, this is the case with all things. People tend to only post a review when they have something negative to say, it's just human nature, it is rare to find someone who will take their time and give something a positive review, even if it's an amazing experience, simply because they don't care to improve somethings reputation, whereas they always care to destroy it.
455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vitalik calls Tron a scam in interview on: June 28, 2018, 12:07:15 PM
Wasn't it TRON were most of the whitepaper was copied from another ICO?
Anyways, no working product, no roadmap, nothing. TRON only lives on hype which is very dangerous in my opinion.
Tron's whitepaper has been described, in part, as a copy of the IPFS whitepaper:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Tronix/comments/7ovwyu/my_analysis_of_the_tron_whitepaper_v17/

IPFS is an open source project without blockchain which enables files to be saved in a "decentralized cloud", very similar to a BitTorrent swarm, but with some important improvements like versioning. It could be one of the base technologies of a "decentralized web".

A blockchain connected to IPFS could help with some issues like data integrity and content monetarization. Some of the IPFS developers wanted to profit from their "baby" and started the Filecoin ICO, their plan is that Filecoin could be this blockchain.

So Tron, basically, is a competitor to IPFS&Filecoin.

Tron's way to do things seems to be, however, "first marketing & partnerships, then tech". Well, their advantage is that they can use IPFS code as it's open source, so they skip the development work of creating an own "decentralized cloud". So I don't rule out that Tron, at the end, could be a success.

That's why I myself wouldn't call it a scam still, although I wouldn't invest in it.

But that their way to do things (e.g. plagiarizing IPFS without mentioning it in their whitepaper) is morally questionable and maybe even illegal, is another issue.

I really don't think they straight up plagiarised the paper, and also plagiarism is only illegal if the source file is copyright, which is probably unlikely otherwise I doubt TRON would have done so. All cryptos are just amalgamations of other crypto concepts or coins, the first innovation was Bitcoin, the second was Ethereum, everything since is a copycat with spinning rims.
456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If I create my own crypto coin with a total supply of 1,000,000,000,000... on: June 28, 2018, 12:04:06 PM
The truth is that few cryptocurrencies, barring perhaps the top 3 are actually worth anywhere near their market capitalisation. Some cryptocurrencies go from being completely worthless prior to their ICO, to over $1b in market cap within a year or so. In reality, the utility of these cryptocurrencies is probably far less than that of a $1b fiat company, and much of the worth is actually due to exchange trading rather than genuine utility.
457  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Really! Where is the fun at? on: June 28, 2018, 11:42:15 AM
Most games aren't necessarily what I would define as "fun" they're more entertaining, capturing your immediate attention, rather than your long term interest. I think that you can consider trading type games, e.g. Cryptokitties as a gambling type game, but definitely more interactive than your typical slots or dice games. I guess it's quite sad that there aren't any real AAA type games that have a fun gambling type element to them, I could imagine a game like The Witcher could integrate PVP betting for its card game, but just nobody has ever taken the time to build something for us like that Sad
458  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin upto 20,000$ December 2018 on: June 28, 2018, 11:33:10 AM
There is no reason that Bitcoin will begin to increase drastically to reach $20,000 by December. Yes, last December we reached the all time high, but there is no reason for the price valuation to increase in the foreseeable future. If I were you, I would count on it remaining roughly stagnant, trading sideways is probably its near term future as there hasn't been any particularly good news lately, hence no likely growth coming soon.
459  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which altcoins are going to change our lives? on: June 27, 2018, 10:32:52 PM
Out of all the alt coins I've seen so far, I think that NEO has a great deal of potential to change the way our future operates. The decentralized storage protocol, decentralized governments etc seem like they could really shake things up. Of course, these are all pipe dreams for now, there is no demonstrate distributed file storage protocol et, and there is barely any dAPPs, so DGOs are definitely quite a way off yet.
460  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Perspective about HODL. on: June 27, 2018, 10:25:59 PM
In my opinion I actually think that the hold mentality is damaging for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. For one, it promotes artificial scarcity, which leads to dump phases when people reach their stop limit, and doesn't help at all with making cryptocurrency mainstream. The hodl mentality is only for people who really don't believe in the true long term potential of cryptocurrency, and are just waiting for a suitable exit point so they can continue on with fiat currency, without ever looking back.
