101  Other / Off-topic / Re: What programming languages do you know? on: April 30, 2013, 08:09:40 PM
I started programming with BASIC, when I was just a Kid.

My Dad introduced me later to C, C# and C++ in my teenage years with what he did at his work.

I use mostly PHP now a days for building websites. Occasionally I dabble in the C languages for games and apps.

The apu gpu is good but still nothing compared to a discrete gpu

I agree, but if you planning to use a laptop on the move, you do need something which can reasonably last more than 1 hour at full power without the power cord connected. An APU (A8 based laptop), can last many hours, even running at full power.
Most power hungry laptops, with discrete cards, are not capable on lasting that long on just battery if you using them to their full.

Since you seem to be a fan of using Ebay, I'll add another link that way.

I'd recommend an AMD processor based Laptop (A8). They undervolt and/or overclock well, as I have 2 of the same series.
This allows you to have the power when you need it, but when you don't, allows for a very comfortable low temp for long term use.

They can run very cool, they undervolting/overclocking tools are very easy to use (k10stat).
Also you can mine on them and if you just want to do them as a hobby that is no problem, it handles it fine, without over heating.
I'm not suggesting it can mine very well, but if you want to do that, like others have suggested you'd want to go with something more designed for it.

Going this route I think

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alienware-M17X-R4-Gaming-Notebook-ATI-Radeon-7970M-1080P-FULLHD-1920x1080-NEW-/330914909618?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item4d0c10cdb2

That would be more powerful I agree. Just a lot more expensive, so what is your budget?

I recent got 1, I use it mostly for XBMC so far, but I've also experimented with using it to run my FPGA's.

Once I got a bit more free time, I'll acquire more of them, so I can single purpose them.
I'm sure once I got more, I might have some fun running a simple home file server.
106  Economy / Economics / Re: List of bitcoin hostile banks. [edit] mod please consider stickying this thread on: April 28, 2013, 10:53:06 PM
Great idea, will be nice to also add to wiki's once a more complete list is formalised.

I do have a bitcoin project or two in the works (Slowly) which would require cooperation from banks, so knowing which ones could dislike bitcoin in general would help in choosing which one to go for.

113  Economy / Economics / Re: What if everybody wanted to move to BTC? on: April 27, 2013, 12:01:09 AM
I find it unlikely "local" currencies will ever be replaced. I just see BTC as a universal currency system, ideal for international trade.
Local currencies will always have their place, banks and governments will never give that up, they have too much control over it, while little to none over BTC.
The masses might adopt more use of BTC and that will be a good thing, but the monetary system for now will remain will always remain in one shape or another for the above reason, not everyone will change over.
114  Economy / Auctions / Re: Auction - ASICMINER | 110 shares | 1 BTC each | 1 Day on: April 26, 2013, 10:24:55 PM
I'll pay in roughly 12 hours, I'm on my ipad now...

Thank you for letting me know.
