Weekly Update #168 - Many peercoin users have experienced 'invalid checkpoint error' in the last couple days, this is due to an attack on the network based on an exploit of an openssl library cross-platform issue. It caused peercoin blockchain to fork into two chains, one on v0.4.0 linux 64 bit, one on v0.4.0 linux 32 bit and windows. We have released a hot fix v0.4.1 RC1 release for the affected users. Users using v0.4.0 linux 64 bit official build is not affected. Users using v0.4.0 linux 32 bit or Windows client is recommended to upgrade to v0.4.1 RC1 or wait for v0.4.1 final release, transactions should generally be avoided before upgrade is performed. - Peercoin v0.5.0 RC1 has been released for testnet deployment. Note this release is not intended for mainnet and doesn't yet include the hotfix for blockchain fork. It is intended for developers and testing nodes only. Testnet protocol switch to v0.5 has also been scheduled for Monday Nov 16.

Weekly Update #167 - It took a few more days to confirm the internal testing results. Code has passed final internal testing. Release candidate will be cut and build started before the weekend. Expect release candidate build around this weekend.
- If you plan to test the release candidate on testnet, and are short of testnet coins, you can turn on mining on testnet: ppcoind -testnet setgenerate true 1, or ask in the forum for coins from other developers. Try turning on minting on your testnet node before upgrade to better test the upgrade and protocol switch. Testnet protocol switch is tentatively scheduled to be around next weekend after release candidate build.

Weekly Update #163 - Reports have surfaced that Cryptsy is now under investigation by US federal agencies. Although we object to any criminal activity alledgedly happening within that exchange operation, it would appear that the targets are all exchanges dealing with cryptocurrencies. Maybe the real goal is to eventually cut the link between cryptocurrency and fiat?
- Cryptsy was one of the exchanges trading both peercoin and primecoin. Our users be advised.

Weekly Update #162 - Nubits reaches 1-year milestone of successfully maintaining dollar pegging. Even though it is different from cryptocurrencies for it lacks cryptocurrency's independent inflation model, still it's a good bridge between fiat and cryptocurrency, with similar high degree of privacy features of cryptocurrency as well.
