1261  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Los Angeles (SoCal) Bitcoiners Meetup? on: June 17, 2013, 06:47:15 AM
Awesome!  Welcome aboard. I'll arrange some plans ahead of time .

Have you seen any local events for Bitcoiners yet in the LA area?

I did see a meetup.com listing, but it didn't seem very active.

Count me in.
1262  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: June 17, 2013, 06:16:14 AM
This is a great feature to have. I am glad you got around to adding it.

I think another feature to add when leaving a trust comment is the 'thread' that the transaction took place in. It seems as this is open to loopholes where people could have their friends trust each-other, which defeats the entire purpose. If it "REQUIRES" a thread, it might just be another level of security, we don't have others 'gaming' the system. I doubt it does happen here, but you can never be to sure.

Thanks for this feature, it's looking great so far.

I added a trust system to the marketplace sections. When you're logged in, you'll now see something like this next to Marketplace posts:
Quote
Trust: 1: -0 / +12(3)

The first number is the user's trust score calculated based on how consistently they've received positive feedback. Probably no one will get a score above 0 until the system has been around for at least a month. The second number is the number of reported scams. The third number increases with the number of positive reports, as does the fourth number in parenthesis, though the fourth number is more resistant to abuse. This text changes color depending on the score. Users with a negative score (attainable through scamming) get a red warning attached to their posts.

These scores are taken from your trust network. They are not global scores. You can edit your trust network here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust
If your trust depth is set to 2 (the default), you will trust feedback by people you trust, people they trust, and people they trust. I might change the default in the future; we'll see how this works. Your trust list is public.

On feedback pages, you can leave trade feedback. There are no rules for this, but here are some guidelines:
- List all of the trades that you do with people (or at least the major ones). This is not like #bitcoin-otc where you give people just one score.
- Do not rate people based on the quality of their posts.
- Older ratings count for more, so don't delete old ratings if you can avoid it.
- "Risked BTC" is how much money you could have lost if the person you're rating had turned out to be a scammer. Or, if they are a scammer, it's how much you lost. Use the BTC value at the time of reporting.
- It's OK to post a rating about the person in general, not tied to a specific trade.
- If you want to make a rating stronger, increase "Risked BTC". 50 extra risked BTC is equivalent to an additional rating.

If your trust list is totally empty, you trust "DefaultTrust", which includes some trustworthy people that I'll select. But if you add anyone to your trust list, even if they don't trust anyone, DefaultTrust will no longer be considered part of your trust list.

In the near future I'll add these same ratings to PMs.

Tell me if you see any bugs. I didn't test this much yet.
1263  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BITMAIL *anonymous email service with bitcoin relevance* on: June 17, 2013, 06:11:00 AM
Yes, I think this project would be great.

There is a few services like it, but maybe it should be without ads.

Does anyone want to create BITMAIL?
It would run on TOR and be based on outlook, and its ads would be bitcoin relevant.
Also, there would be btc themes, etc, and you would recieve BTC for browsing the ads.
1264  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinFunder.com - Crowdfunding Campaigns to Spread Adoption of Bitcoin on: June 17, 2013, 06:09:34 AM
I wouldn't even compare Bitfunder and Coinfunder

  • Coinfunder is strictly crowd sourcing with clear goals, descriptions, and rewards. (similar to kick-starter)
  • BitFunder has a different feature (which is IPO/Shares Investments) and you don't really hear the goals of the developer or business.

These are two different businesses with two different business models.

bitfunder is clearly the most mature and most-accepted site overall, it would only require very minor changes/additions to be generally useful. Sent a message to its founder.
1265  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinFunder.com - Crowdfunding Campaigns to Spread Adoption of Bitcoin on: June 17, 2013, 06:06:05 AM
Good luck on this project. I have not yet seen a leader in this space.

I hope it works out. I would like to see a valuable crowd-sourcing site do good in the Bitcoin space.

CoinFunder is excited to announce a new section called Initiatives.

What is a CoinFunder Initiative?
A CoinFunder Initiative is a crowdfunding campaign where Bitcoiners can show interest in organizations that do not currently accept Bitcoin. CoinFunder allows for a centralized location where an organization can see how much support there is from the Bitcoin community to adopt Bitcoin.

How does an Initiative work?
Anyone can create an Initiative for any organization that is not currently accepting Bitcoin. Other users can pledge Bitcoins if they would like to see the organization accept Bitcoin for their goods or services. No Bitcoins are collected until the organization starts accepting Bitcoin, and the initiative claim has been verified by CoinFunder.

What happens after I make a Bitcoin Pledge?

Once an Initiative has been claimed and verified by CoinFunder, an email will be sent out to everyone who has made a pledge for that initiative directing them to fund their initiative. The first 5% of the funds goes to CoinFunder, the remaining 95% is directed directly to the Bitcoin address that the organization enters.

What incentive is there for the funder who makes a Bitcoin Pledge?
Your Bitcoin pledge does not promise any sort of service or product in return, but instead the pledge is used as a monetary incentive for Bitcoin acceptance. We all win as Bitcoin spreads. We hope to work with the organization that claims the Initiative to provide some sort of reward to funders, but there is no gurantee of any type of reward.

What fees does CoinFunder charge for Initiatives?
CoinFunder charges a flat 5% fee for each successful initiative - 2% of that fee goes to the person who starts and promotes the initiative.

If you know an organization that is not currently accepting Bitcoin, start your own initiative now and start pledging!

1266  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-06-12 First university to accept bitcoin on: June 17, 2013, 06:01:41 AM
That is pretty damn awesome.
Rock on!

In what way is it a PR Stunt?

What point does it serve?

This is not the service I would like to receive for btc.

It's just a PR stunt.
1267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Association of Great Britain on: June 17, 2013, 05:41:40 AM
is there other associations happening in other locations that you know about? or is this only for this in Britain?

What's a Bitcoin association anyways?
1268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does low number of Bitcoin Facebook "Likes" prove we are all early adopters? on: June 17, 2013, 05:11:27 AM
Well, it also depends on the length of time and relevance of content that the Page is putting out. The content needs to add value to the users or else the page can lose a lot of likes for reasons of 'lack of posting' or 'seems like advertising/marketing' and many other factors. Managing a Facebook page is easy to do, if you just let it sit, and add no value. But that won't help much with contributing value.

This is not a scientific test by any means, but I just looked on Facebook to see how many "likes" Bitcoin has.  The top page is Bitcoin Users Org with 244,755 likes.  Compare this with something like "Dogs" with 6,509,886 and it is almost comical.  Of course, many of us here understand the value of anonymity.  My husband advised me to be quiet about our BTC holdings.  Who knows, some day just a handful could be worth millions so it might be better not to "Like" it on Facebook and announce to the world we have some.  There may be some of us that choose not to "Like" it for that reason alone.  Or most of the people using BTC do not use Facebook?  That could be the case too.

But does the small number of "likes" hint at the fact that we are still very early adopters in this?   Just thinking. . .
1269  Economy / Goods / Re: Business For Sale: Great Opportunity to earn $140/sale on: June 17, 2013, 12:45:21 AM
Its against the tos, and a fraudulent concept I don't want to be apart of.

However, the math does add up to your idea.

Its not personal.. but you aren't business either. Also, your opinion added 0 value to the thread by saying its stupid.

Even if they make a $9.95 purchase, you still earn $140/sale.
If this is true, how about you give me 1 BTC to make a purchase there? You instantly make $40 profit.

1270  Economy / Goods / Re: Business For Sale: Great Opportunity to earn $140/sale on: June 17, 2013, 12:20:14 AM
You are an idiot for talking for no reason. That can be changed anytime.

How much you get paid to advertise the Sig in your profile?

I laughed so hard because of how stupid this sounds.
1271  Economy / Goods / Re: Business For Sale: Great Opportunity to earn $140/sale on: June 16, 2013, 11:49:26 PM
Thanks for the feedback.

maco is totally legit, guys.  I have done business with him in the past, and he has had this referral thing for some time.  It is not a scam.

I can speak from experience that if he says he'll help get you going and make it a success, he will do just that.  He'll spend time with you, coaching you, helping you, advising you.  He wants to see you succeed, and it's a trait that you don't find very often with people selling businesses for btc.

This is a no-brainer, and certainly worth what he is asking for it.

1272  Economy / Goods / Re: Business For Sale: Great Opportunity to earn $140/sale on: June 16, 2013, 10:50:37 PM
Here you go.. This is the BACK OFFICE of the campaign.  You will be able to TRACK all your CLICKS AND SALES in the
back office Control Panel. As well as they give you all the tools/resources for Banner Ads, Text Ads, Link Ads, and Email Ads.

I will be the one who walks you through the steps to getting you approved,
and teach you what you need to know about this business/campaign inside-and-out.

Plus, the network is a higher paying network, and pays every 2 weeks instead of waiting 45-60 days for a PAYOUT.
As long as you achieve the $100 USD Threshold, you are good to cash out every 2 weeks.

Sounds way too good to be true. How can you possibly afford to pay $140 commison on a $10 sale?
+1

obvious scam is obvious

1273  Economy / Goods / Re: Business For Sale: Great Opportunity to earn $140/sale on: June 16, 2013, 10:12:55 PM
The company has multiple upsells in the backend where they have a business model that makes them much more than $140 they pay out.

The $10 sale is only an entry point for them, and they know what customer satisfaction is.
The customer value to them is far greater because they can market to the customer for life.

See, if they have a valid paying customer for $10 and the customer is 100% happy, they can turn on more services for that customer in the niche, and charge money. It's not too good to be true because its customer value.  Each sign-up for Facebook is worth $xxx of money because of advertising/marketing opportunities. Same thing with Google, Instagram, and thousands of other companies. These guys are big enough to pay you-- the Affiliate larger amount up-front to retain a customer base for future sales.

Sounds way too good to be true. How can you possibly afford to pay $140 commison on a $10 sale?

Good luck on it. I plan to try this out shortly. Keep developing games! Don't stop.
