562  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $30,000 on mining or spent on buying coins? on: April 20, 2014, 10:30:51 AM
Don't think you have to go all in on one thing only.

My advice would be to spread it around a bit - sure if you want to do some mining yourself go for it.

But also use some to just buy coins directly (many people who have invested big time in mining had wished they had just bought coins instead). If BTC goes back to 1000 you'll sure wish you had some coins on hand instead of fighting an ever increasing mining difficulty.

You could also look into cloud mining which means you don't have to worry about maintaining the miner or electricity costs at all and can begin mining immediately. My personal favorite is PB Mining  (where it is currently 0.58 BTC for 100 GH/s) but never invest more than you can afford to lose in cloud mining, as the operation may fall through. Never invest more than you can afford in anything Bitcoin related, good luck to you sir Wink

Also, yes pre orders have ruined many people, just do a bit of poking around the forums where people have waited 12 months for BFL ASICs and would have been much better off just holding onto their coins instead. Like 1000% better off.
563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Big Scam on: April 19, 2014, 01:05:18 PM
The underlying disruptive technology behind Bitcoin is what makes it special - and this technology will most likely become ubiquitous in the future and applied to things we haven't dreamed of yet.

The BTC / USD exchange rate you're talking about OP, and calling a scam, is just a side effect of this.

It is only one very small part of what Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies actually are.
564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy now offering shares in mining contracts. MN1. Question on: April 17, 2014, 09:06:33 AM
Unfortunately the Bitcoin mining GH/s at Cryptsy are way overpriced - which means less chance of making anything back on your investment.

You can buy 1 GH/s of mining power for a third of the price at PB Mining.

And you can also buy 1 GH/s of mining power (which can be traded on an exchange) at CEX for about half of the price.

Disclosure: these are affiliate links above - but honestly the GH/s on Cryptsy are so overpriced.

Wink

Why would the market be so inflated? Thanks for the alert, I'm not up to speed on mining contract prices.
Eventually either Cryptsy's will go way down or PB Mining will have a huge rally.

I think they are over priced because newbs are overvaluing them way too much and getting ripped off - which is why I wanted to let people know in this thread Wink

Right, but I thought cryptsy didn't have fees or extra charges? You simply buy for life, and get your returns, right?

PB Mining has no fees either - and after 5 years (when the contract runs out) the GH/s will be virtually worthless anyway. There is no way to sell the GH/s later on though - they are 5 year mining contracts.

CEX does have some small fees - but nowhere near enough to make it worth spending twice as much at Cryptsy.

CEX is the best option if you're looking to mine and trade - the trading platform there is very professional and the GH/s are much closer to the market rate than at Cryptsy.

To seriously try and get a return on investment PB Mining is the best option (assuming the service lasts). You can buy 100 GH/s there for 0.58 BTC- I don't want to know how much it would cost for 100 GH/s on Cryptsy.

This is the best mining calculator (which shows upcoming diff changes): https://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator

Not only it is not a bad idea. That is UFO Coin.

Wink I think it would be awesome.

Als, PoS coins like HBN / PHS / BCX and TEK have been doing very well recently (take a look at Cryptsy). If we also added PoS for 5-10% per month to UFO then we would have a really original coin. There is no coin that has PoS plus an inbuilt donation mechanism. And more and more people are becoming interested in PoS coins Smiley

Fellow Space Travellers,

As some of you may already have noticed, the network was experiencing troubles for the last several
days. Those events started happening on the 7th of April, including lost transactions, many orphaned
blocks in a row and adding to that, cmine.de pool had been under unsuccessful attack resulting in the
halting of the automatic payouts.

That led us to believe that the blockchain might have been forked and therefore the security of the
coin balance compromised either by man-made intervention or the natural effect of a weak network.

For that reason we asked the scifi-ex to remove UFO Coin from exchange so as not to risk illegitimate
coins(if any) to be traded.

The UFO Coin Project is not dead. It was ill and is in cryonics mode now. A second takeover is about
to happen. Thankfully, with our team expansion, we are working its awakening soon to find it on a
new algo and many amazing things are waiting in store.

Do not worry about your coins! All pre-4/7 coins are going to be transferred to the new blockchain to
protect the legacy stakeholders. Expect a pre-announcement with more details soon and brace
yourselves for what might be an amazing journey!

The UFO Coin Team

At least we've got some news Smiley

This is great news! What if we add something like EMC2 where 2.5 % of all mined coins are reserved and then donated to a UFO / free energy researcher / project like Mars One every month decided by a community vote?

570  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I am new to mining and I just started with cloud hashing , any good idea ? on: April 10, 2014, 04:50:49 AM
The key with cloud mining is profitability.

Take a look at the link in my signature to see where to buy the cheapest GHS for cloud mining online Wink
571  Other / Archival / Re: I sold everything at $158/159 this morning on: April 10, 2014, 01:41:31 AM
To all of you panic buying because you missed the "greatest thing ever", mark this post, within 6 months you will be able to buy in much lower, I have a large buy order at $35 (just above the 2011 high).

if this were an established commodity like gold, copper, soybeans, or a currency cross, which I have been trading for 15 years, that is the smart buy point - not at $159

you just need to look at the naivete of the posts on this board to know this is a sucker rally.

"i'm loaning money to ....."
" I save $200 a month and im putting it all in bitcoins ...... "
"we are revolutionaries......."

good luck to all the future bitcoin millionaires :-)

What about project of EMC2 Kickstarter like page, where everyone could apply for donation of his projects and donators could pay only in EMC2?
You know stuff like 3D printers, trip to MT.Everest, Macro Lens to iPhone etc.
What do you think about that?

I actually think this is a great idea - something like a http://bitcoinstarter.com for EMC2

The guidelines for listing a project should be pretty stringent though.
579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: April 06, 2014, 04:48:38 AM
Wow EMC2 has tripled in value today on Poloniex  Wink

This coin is really going places, I can't wait until EMC2 is pledging huge sums of money monthly to cutting edge science!
