Well, Theres been some great things happening with SXC..

Media attention , new services, a new exchange and new merchants...

But the price is down.. This information isn't getting out there...

Our official website hasn't been updated.. This is a problem, one I raised a week ago... It's still not updated.. A nice shiny new website would be nice, but in the weeks or months that it is being developed a quick update on the old one would stop a lot of negative impressions about SXC being formed.

I started an official page on facebook.. there was one, it went against SXC's branding and represented SXC as purely speculative, and elicited donations, none of which went to SXC's development.. It also didn't contain any news so it gave the impression SXC was standing still..

That's much the same as the two twitter feeds... I'm trying to get that under control as well, but my request for an "@sexcoin.info" email account to be setup has not born any result... I guess there's more important things taking place...

In the end I guess there's not much I can contribute to SXC, so I am reducing my involvement in the project with a view to leaving the development altogether.

Well it is hard to promote a coin professionally if you do not even have an email address at the coin's domain.

Here is what I believe SXC needs to do to really push forward:

- Set up a service which allows subscription payments in SXC - as most of the industry uses the model of subscription payments. (if coinpayments.net does this you are already halfway there). Offer a bounty for this if coinpayments.net do not offer it.

- Email / contact thousands upon thousands of adult websites educating them as to why accepting SXC is a smart move - especially as the price could easily reach the highs of late December again once the coin is more widely adopted (i.e they should profit from this), as well as the free marketing and exposure they will get as a result of accepting SXC from the SXC community.

- Issue press releases re the latest developments in SXC monthly

Do the above and the coin will really take off Wink

Don't do it and it's not going to go anywhere - you can't just not promote  a coin and pray for it to become popular.

The fact SXC has been getting the kind of media coverage it has been getting is due to its name - this has provided a good foundation for the coin - it's now time to aggressively market SXC and enjoy the results Wink

EDIT: And for god's sake have a professional Facebook and twitter which is updated regularly, and a dedicated SXC forum. Offer a bounty to have the site redesigned too. It's not that hard!

There has been some pr for SXC too: http://bitcoinprbuzz.com/bitcoin-alternative-sxc-gaining-in-popularity-a-sure-thing-according-to-max-keiser/

thanks for that link , i went there copyed and pasted the address from my browser, dropped it into my revised ebay add and again got this message.

We’ve noticed that your listing included a non-clickable link. eBay no longer permits non-clickable or static links in listings (in item descriptions, payment instructions, return instructions, etc.). Please go back and either remove the non-clickable link, or update it to make sure it complies with the links policy.

They probably don't allow direct download links.

hmm not sure i know the difference between the one that works and the others that dont . i guess i will have to stick with the one thats working as it,s in all my templates and slips there attention .

I brought this up before while I was redoing the web site - some of the download links go to box.com, others go to some domain called 21stcenturymoneytalk... definitely not ideal. It be much better to host them all on devcoin.org but I can't make that call as there are bandwidth considerations involved.

Unthinkingbit - can you make this call or should I check with Jasinlee?

We should definitely be hosting on devcoin.org if possible.

Hey guys I am thinking about making a website for selling gift cards for devcoins. Is there any suggestion of cards or other things you want to be featured on the website?
-AM

There are already a couple of gift card sites - I don't mean to discourage you - but it would be cool to sell something we don't have a store for yet Smiley

EDIT: Dev coffee would be kind of awesome (writers and coders drink lots of coffee!). I know that a btc coffee website does quite well Wink

Also - if you wanted to set up a serious service, a proxy buying service like http://bitsumo.com for DVC would be really, really awesome.

There is a lot more than 8 results here: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22bitcoin+descendant+nxt+features%22&newwindow=1&rlz=1C1CHMO_en-GBAU536AU536&espv=210&es_sm=93&ei=qpnUUsCgE6eziAed84HADA&start=0&sa=N&filter=0&biw=1511&bih=741&dpr=0.9

Smiley.

That all sounds fine - when I have time I can send out a press release and be paid what the NXT community thinks it's worth.

EDIT: I could do a lot more with the full 100K - but I respect the community's decision.

I will just have to buy even more NXT  Grin

Devcoin has been mentioned in a Wired article http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-01/13/dogecoin-and-the-era-of-personal-currency

EDIT: Time to reopen the Devcoin page on Wikipedia - I can't believe they deleted it we had just as many refs as most of the other alt coins - what a joke!

Cool! just a couple of articles such as this one could have people all over the place asking questions about Devcoins.

I think the lack of exposure of what Devcoin is and what it is about could easily be taken care of by the end of the year with some timely articles by a few major news outlets. Maybe an admin that is dedicated to being the media and/blog point-of-contact would be in order.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to raise awareness of Devcoin would be to go the guest post route on financial blogs. If you check out the Money Crashers list of person finance blogs (below) many of them allow guest posts.

http://www.moneycrashers.com/top-personal-finance-blogs/

One would simply need to contact the owners of the blogs and ask if they can submit a unique article about Devcoins and/or Devtome. Most blogs are usually hungry for new contact and will gladly accept your offer as long as your request email doesn't look spammy. The key factor about guest posting is that the guest poster never has to pay money for it. The blog owner gets new (and free) content and the guest poster is allowed two or three links links back to their blog, Facebook page and/or a Wiki such as Devtome.

I am using my personal finance blog that I co-run with a couple of other people (below) as an example because most are set up in a similar fashion.

http://www.moneyandpotatoes.com

We have a write for us link across the top of the blog and we do get almost daily requests for guest blog posting. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the requests are of the spammy variety and they never get posted on the blog. However, we have had several valid ones that were published and they provided our blog with some good content.

The key to getting this accomplished would be someone having the ability to write about Devcoin/Devtome from several different angles and always coming up with what amounts to roughly 90% new content with each article.

It might also help to have a PDF type press packet that is tied to a domain so a link could be provided to the blog owners so that they can quickly and easily see what Devcoin is about.

I'm coordinating the marketing / press of Devcoin at the moment with monthly ad campaigns and press releases (which perhaps is how Wired heard about us). The biggest outlets we've been on from these is The Wall Street Journal and Yahoo Finance.

I would like to give you 6 shares next month - for you to put the above into action.

Would you like to do it? And are there any objections from anyone here?

Yeah, I would be willing to give it a shot for a month and see how it goes.

Great! Well if no one objects you'll get 6 shares next month to try and arrange guest posts on the blogs at http://www.moneycrashers.com/top-personal-finance-blogs/ If you get one (or more) I'll help you with the article(s) Wink

We can also work on a press kit in PDF format to be hosted at devcoin.org - great idea.

I already have a standing invitation to swap guest posts on another personal finance blog (http://cashcowcouple.com/) but haven't answered them in a couple of weeks. I just sent them an email asking them if they still want to swap guest posts. I have one short article already mostly completed about alt-coin speculation that is a little generic but mentions Devcoin more than others.

If you want to do an article on something along the lines of how to make money writing on Devtome that meets the criteria of what we have on Money and Potatoes ( http://www.moneyandpotatoes.com/write-for-us/ )... I can guarantee that it will be published. Smiley

Just mention in your bio that you are regular contributor to the Devtome Wiki and be sure not to post the article on this forum (but I am sure you already know that.)

Great! Well as I have the power to assign a small number of shares for marketing purposes - you will get 6 next month to contact all the blogs at http://www.moneycrashers.com/top-personal-finance-blogs/  and ask for guest posts Smiley Please PM me with your DVC address which can accept generated Devcoin shares (a wallet on your computer).

I've noticed Heavy covers many different cryptocurrencies (http://www.heavy.com/tech/2013/12/dogecoin-what-is-shibe-cryptocurrenc/) so I have contacted them about doing a write up about Devcoin.

In re to guest posting on your blog - does your blog get a lot of traffic?
647  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: January 14, 2014, 11:33:03 AM
The easiest way for Devcoin to have its moment in the sun will be through people talking about it or having a little buzz. We should come up with an ongoing bounty that could get people talking. An easy way to do this would be to allow a certain amount of shares per round to go towards a charitable cause. It could be St Jude's Children's Hospital or something else that has a name that is known nationwide. After the donation is made, then do a PR about the charitable donation.

There might also be a way to sell items on ebay with all proceeds earmarked for charity.

Bittzy78
Wouldn't it be better for the cause to be an open-source project? Not a comment against charity but it's usually local, and philanthropy/funding and charity aren't the same thing.

Re. Wikipedia - basically needs a decent length and depth article by a very mainstream source that focuses on Devcoin.

I agree with this. Is there such a thing as an open source charity? Or is that just a weird question?

Yes it's called Devcoin  Wink Seriously though - if we could build partnerships with for example Ubuntu - that is probably the way to go. Start canvassing open source organisations / movements / groups.

You're coordinating a lot here and running things well Smiley

Let me know if you would like to collaborate on giving future NXT press releases more coverage (published more widely).

The full distribution I can offer is over at http://bitcoinprbuzz.com/services

Contrary to popular belief I am a NXT supporter - the previous issues had nothing to do with my opinion of NXT - but more with an unfortunate misunderstanding (as anyone can see by taking a look at the original bounty thread).

So here I am putting aside my personal misgivings, and offering my support once again - because I can't ignore all the awesome things going on around here Smiley

DeVCoin price is actually quite high still, it had hovered around 30 Satoshis for a long time, a bit below, a bit above.

But periodically it skyrockets, last time all my sells through 193 Satoshis got bought, allowing me to reinforce my buys massively.

Now we are in the usual drop back down, eating up my buy offers, providing me DeVCoins to place back on the sell side. I have half a million DeVCoins for sale at each price all the way down to 63 Satoshis now.

Maybe this time we won't quite hit 30, we'll see. My buys get bigger and bigger down in the low range so might be able to gobble up all the dumping before it even gets as low as 30. I am looking forward to the next skyrocket though, maybe it will go over 200 on the next one...

Lets do the math here:

Dev have 2,000,000 coins, correct?

There has been 300 blocks of 40 coins and we started at 6GMT, so that is almost 6 hours ago, so 12000 coins has been mined in 6 hours, so this means that dev have a FREE 1000 hours of mining or that is almost 42 DAYS!!! I know one word for it, but i will not say what i'm thinking....

R.I.P. to the aliens and let Marscoin begin, but with a better structure, with a fair structure, most likely again someone of 18 years old that think that he will win the lottory. Stay with coins with developers, real developers and with no premine or premine but less then 2%, for example ESM (eSportMoney) no premine, XIV (only a few blocks) and OGC (OnlineGamingCoin) 1.5M premined for developing.

Here is a fucking prime example of a 10year old trying to do math. The coin was released at 6GMT correct, that was fucking 3hours and 45minutes ago not 6 hours you dumb fuck.

Oh and this just made me laugh even more "Stay with coins with developers, real developers and with no premine or premine but less then 2%" The dev has pre-mined less than 2% he pre-mined 1% DERP.

I swear, all these members are kids that dont have a fucking clue. They see a few members give negativity and they just jump straight on the bandwagon.

The problem is: A miner with 10 MH would have to mine a few years and spend tens of thousands of $$ for electricity to get 2 million coins with the current difficulty. I don't thing that the devs efforts are worth that much...

The answer is: Once the miners have mined more than the pre-mine, this will start increasing the value. The coin is nearly 4hours old and everyone is winging that the dev has a premine of 1%, give it a few days even a few weeks that will all change. Only the immature cannot see the benefit from this coin, they just want a fast pump and dump which is sad to see. %1 is reasonable in my books for a pre-mine, look at bitcoins pre-mine and all the other successful coins? Just chill the fuck out and let the coin have chance to grow.

The dev cant dump the coins because ITS FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE TO SELL THAT AMOUNT OF COINS! NO1 IS GOING TO BUY THEM, NOT UNTILL THEY HAVE VALUE.

I'd pay 1 BTC for 2 000 000 ALN  Wink

Don't sell NXTs so cheap and in big amounts because you only help speculators kill Nxt rate on DGEX. Seriously, not when bitcoin is falling. This is the best way to damage community because noone will invest in it since rate can't recover. Even big stock holders aren't damaging it so much like you this way. I don't see any strategy here no HOLD action to help Nxt rate and create demand boosting community growth. When someone leaves dgex he want go back soon. Even if someone don't like dgex it will still affect price of Nxt on any other exchange in future. Kill it and u'll kill Nxt.

Warren Buffett said, “Be Fearful When Others Are Greedy and Greedy When Others Are Fearful”

Nxt is so young still - it is not going to reach its full price potential for a while.

These dips are good - enables more people to join and buy more Nxt - distributing more Nxt around to more people.
