1241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC mining with Reaper on a 7970 on: March 03, 2013, 10:35:59 AM
Im trying to decide between an 5970 and a 7970, buying a used card for gaming and LTC mining, putting price aside, which is better?

It seems a lot of people here have issues with their 7970 for LTC, I want a card thats hassle free as I dont want to tweak configs all day...

Thanks

OK thanks, seeing as though BTC GPU mining will be worthless soon, its mostly for LTC mining. Which has the edge in that department, the 5970 or the 7970? I think either will be overkill for gaming  Grin

These are specifically Bitcoin mining ASIC chips? Because they make ASIC chips for thousands of different applications, each is unique...

1244  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Recommend me a card $300 range on: March 02, 2013, 03:19:46 PM
I was planning on buying a 5970 used for gaming and some BTC (and soon LTC) mining, but are there better options?

My budget isnt big, around $300, if I can keep it under that all the better.

5970 looks like I can get in the $250-280 range. Id say $330 would be absolute max shipped I would spend on a card.

Recommendations?

Im looking to spend $300 max on a new card, but Im planning to buy used. I was thinking a used 5970 (around $250), but should I get something else?

Dont want to spend much over $300, under preferably.
1246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Background checks on persons vital in the Bitcoin eco system ? on: March 02, 2013, 03:06:07 PM
Is this some sort of joke? Half the reason BTC is so popular is because is just as anonymous as cash.

The notion that background checks would be conducted on its users would instantly kill the currency. It preposterous, frankly.
1247  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bit365.eu - Reduced Juice BTC Sports Betting - No Registration - Fast Payouts on: March 02, 2013, 02:14:33 PM
1 BTC max per match is a little low. You need to raise that ASAP. 2-3 BTC max would be a LOT better.

Just placed 2 Djokovic/Berdych bets, just took the match over 21 and Berdych over 8.5, I think its a solid bet.

1BTC each, if Berdych somehow won in 2 sets, they would almost cancel, but thats a long shot.  Should be a great match.

EDIT: I see that "All bets must include the recommended tx fee of 0.0005" Does this mean I need to bet 1.0005 BTC or you will just take the fee out of my 1 BTC wager? Its not really clear, thanks.

The average IQ of a person is 100.

Thats AVERAGE.
1249  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Building a lean, mean mining machine. on: March 02, 2013, 02:51:02 AM
I think if the CPU/RAM speed/quantity is too slow/too little it affects overall performance for mining... there is a ratio of GPU memory to system memory that need to be maintained...
1250  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Sell me your used 5970 on: March 01, 2013, 06:23:26 PM

1251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Long Before Litecoins Hit $.25c Each? on: March 01, 2013, 05:31:53 PM
You cant be serious. Ripple is a joke as far as I am concerned. BTC and LTC have real value. Try buying a pizza with an IOU.

Or even better - try collecting on the IOU your buddy used to buy his pizza. "Uh, maybe Ill have it next week bro." Good luck with that.

$5k in debt is not worth $5k. Its worth less, and between that and a central issuing authority, Ripple will fail. But this thread isnt about Ripple.

Its about how Litecoins are awesome and will become a lot more useful and valuable as BTC hits the bigtime in 2013-2014.
1252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple Scam: Centralized, Centrally Issued, Bribes exchanges, Closed Source on: March 01, 2013, 05:23:43 PM
I dont think its a scam, I just dont think it will work. A giant digital IOU system is cool in theory, but fairly worthless in practice.

As a person who owes other people $ and has a lot of $ owed to them IN REAL LIFE I will tell you it certainly doesnt make life easier.

Sure, 85% of the people involved are good for it, but being able to collect when you want to and when you need the $ just doesnt happen.

In the gambling world, which I am big in, when someone owes you a lot of $ you can SELL the debt but you usually take a big hit.

Lets say you beat a guy for $5,000 in Backgammon, he cant pay immediately but you know hes good for it and he is a know person in your circles.

What you do is go around to a few people and say, hey, Larry owes me $5k, will you buy it for $3500? So you get your dough NOW, but less...

Owed money doesnt equal the exact amount. Collecting is hard and just because someone owes doesnt mean they will pay on time or all at once.

For the simple reason that $5k in debt isnt actually worth $5k (because of issues collecting and the fact that time = money) ripple will fail.

Oh, and a central authority plans to "give away" the majority of the currency units? I dont see that ever helping the value of them.

Im not signing up for ripple and have ZERO interest in it. I have enough of that whole business in my real life to know its not worth it.
1253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How Long Before Litecoins Hit $.25c Each? on: March 01, 2013, 05:07:40 PM
Simple poll, I see LTC is slowly trending back upwards on https://btc-e.com/exchange, right now its around $.075 per LTC, but its highly volatile.

How long before it hits $.10cents (I assume very soon - maybe next week) and eventually $.25c? Furthermore, if you think $.25c is possible how many years do you think it will take to hit 1:1 parity with the $USD? That would be a monumental achievement.

I see LTC becoming a lot more successful as mainstream people finally begin to learn about BTC in 2013, and as BTC mining becomes unprofitable, many many GPU miners will switch to LTC and while some will hold them or trade them for BTC, some people like myself actually will begin USING them more for transactions and I predict we will see businesses begin adding the option to pay in either BTC or LTC for products and services.

But first we need some sort of equivalent of Coinbase for LTC - something a totally average person with an IQ of 100 can understand and use without downloading anything or going through any hoops - just using an email address. Right now the currency is too small and not circulated enough for private capital to back a major project like Coinbase, but I predict that in 2013-2014 we will see some major growth in the LTC sector built around a paypal-like LTC payment processor/ewallet that helps to explode LTC's popularity amidst BTC becoming totally mainstream.
1254  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Need help ASAP ~~~!!! on: March 01, 2013, 04:27:26 PM
In my opinion the time to cut and run is now, but it depends, if you have free power or a late BFL preorder you should probably keep at it until BFL ships (maybe April/May).
1255  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Delivery estimate for BFL single? on: March 01, 2013, 04:25:16 PM
If I get mine in April/May I will be happy. June/July, ITS PROBLEM.
1256  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ASICs and blocksize on: March 01, 2013, 04:19:53 PM
Blocksize is a problem but I dont think its going to be one that cause BTC to fail. They are too well established, and too useful. Even if its 200GB people who are serious will buy it on a hard drive for $50, and for everyone else there is Coinbase etc. Only the miners really need it and people who use ASIC will make the network very, very secure, so the future is bright for BTC in my opinion.
1257  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Need help deciding - 5870 or NOT ? on: March 01, 2013, 04:16:41 PM
Yes, because good video cards will retain most of their value for 6-12 months, so free power = profit mining BTC or LTC if BTC becomes too hard.
1258  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Which strategy is a longer term winner?Buy ASIC or buy Bitcoin now? on: March 01, 2013, 04:13:31 PM
ASIC is worth it but only for the LOOOONNNGGG haul, like 1-2 YEARS of 24/7 mining. I think if you want short term profits, its all about either playing poker with BTC on Seals With Clubs or just buy BTC and hope they go up to $50/per coin (they will this year, after it goes down a bit).
1259  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple: A revolution, or a pre-mined currency scam? ANALYSIS on: February 28, 2013, 04:40:52 PM
Being able to mine BTC and LTC is one of the main reasons I am interested in them and invest in their economies.

I have absolutely no interest in Ripple or any other premined ecurrency.
1260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Litecoin really really cheap right now? Or is it dying? on: February 28, 2013, 04:11:18 PM
Overall Im very bullish on LTC, because the value right now is so good and the upside is so so big. When BTC gets even bigger, say $50 per BTC, I think LTC will really start jumping and withing 2-3 years I could easily see LTC being at 1:1 parity with the $USD. It doesnt take a mathematicologist to see the benefit in holding a few thousand of them. Also, a lot of GPU miners people will start mining them when ASIC hits and they give up on BTC, and more people holding onto LTC means more people buying stuff with them, a bigger economy, and the huge benefit of being BTC's little brother when BTC really hits the mainstream.
