It has nothing to do with flash disks per se.
The USB protocol itself isnt secure.

Joel Katz always kind of creeped me out and he worked on Ripple. He hasn't done anything wrong that I know about but he kind of looks like one of one of those guys you would see hanging out on a Starbucks sofa, laying down and waiting to look up girls skirts. lol
OK, I lol'd

Its not a scam, there is nothing criminal, in my opinion. Alpha just bit off way more than they could chew, as they have no expertise or experience in industrial engineering and chip fabrication.
This is fairly cutting edge technology and while it may all look easy on paper, actually making a chip, boards, case, software, etc and bringing it to market is not easy. Forget timing and pricing.
BFL is way better capitalized and has experience making ASICs, yet look at their most recent fiasco with the Monarch line. Its going to ship over a year late, at least. Thats a company with huge resources.
Alpha is just a couple guys. You cant just take engineering 101, get some crowdfunding, place one call to India and expect to get rich. Only a total neophyte would believe it could be so easy.
Being naive and ambitious isnt a crime. Now if it turns out they moved some money around to themselves via a shell game and didnt actually spend it developing Vipers, maybe crimes were committed.
I dont know, Im not a lawyer. But from our perspective, whether its total incompetence, criminal negligence, or actually a scam start to finish - is irrelevant.
Its very likely if not assured yet that any investment made into Alpha is a total loss. The fact that they still monitor the boards is fairly encouraging, as they havent simply gone off the radar entirely - yet.

Sometimes I think the best thing that could happen to that part of the world is an earthquake that dropped the entire region into the Mediterranean Sea.
We've seen nearly a century of conflict between equally-guilty sides, supplied and funded by a bunch of governments around the world at the expense of their own populations because it's a good way to make some extra money for the arms exporters and I'm tired of hearing about it.
If war is the health of the state, that part of the world must be its spa.
I think, with this post, you have moved to the very top of the list of my favorite posters on here.

I think silver is really the way to go right now. Just think about it...in the event of a complete financial collapse, if gold prices skyrocket...and you have all this gold...how would you plan on dividing it up when you need to make smaller purchases? Are you going to bite off pieces of gold??? Unless you plan on only making large purchases...silver will be an easier medium of exchange...
Agreed, thats why you want a significant amount of silver as well. And ammo, gas, food, drinking water, and medical supplies.

Seriously, what kind of joke of a company is this that with millions of dollars of customer funds on the line...
What the hell is going on here?
Ha, you think this is bad? This is rainbows and puppy dogs compared the meltdown thats happening with scrypt ASIC maker Alpha Tech. I mean, I saw a pic of a X3! Its practically like seeing a unicorn. And then this:

This is painful but at least its over now. We can all move on and just write it off as a loss and another lesson learned

I suspect most of us will be lucky to recoup 30-35% of our original investments into this hardware even if we manage to keep them running for 4-6 months (which is unlikely unless you have free electricity).
Why would I pay $7k to get back $3k? Lol Im better off not paying and not mining at all, which I think should really be the lesson here. Mining isnt profitable for individuals anymore. If you arent a hardware manufacturer, or a mining conglomerate working directly with the manufacturer, you cant ever win in this game. But that makes sense, and honestly we are all fools for believing otherwise.

Sorry havent read the thread, but are the Rockminer scrypt ASICs shipping? If not, whats the timetable?

Well, my new guess is we never get X3s but instead get an offer to upgrade to new efficient PCI based miners, with 5x the hashing power, cost only 5BTC to upgrade. Order now or lose your place in the queue! Haha. At least with Josh we got disdain, trolling and sarcasm. With BA we just get the cold shoulder. They didnt even break up with us via text or email. Just poof, out in the rain with a cold and lonely power supply. As if we didnt need more red flags, the page for the X3 still says its a preorder that will ship around May 15th 2014: http://www.blackarrowsoftware.com/store/prospero-x-3.htmlSo Im guessing their new order rate is probably nil at this point and they are just trying the get as much legal protection as possible (and hide as much coin/cash as possible) before bankruptcy.

The problem isnt that Ghash will seek to attack the network, of course they wont, this business makes them millions and millions. Ghash generates vast amounts of wealth securing the network.
The problem now is there are probably only a handful of people in the world (the owners/operators of Ghash), if not a single person, who hold the network hostage to their whimsy.
Even if these people are rational actors, it still presents a major security threat. How much do you think it would cost to finance a small security force to kidnap the owner/operators of Ghash and seize control?
It might not even cost 7 figures.

Im interested in buying some physical Bitcoin, either bills or coins but ideally both. I did a little searching, but Id like some new input.
What are my options currently? What is the state of the art right now and in the near future in terms of manufacturing these?
Is the climate for creating/selling them still good or have various cease and desist type letters and warnings put a damper on production/demand? (Im speaking of the USA)
I have a couple Lealana Litecoins which I really like, and I want to add Bitcoin both paper money and coins, in various denominations, please advise.

Something like, oh I dont know, proof of stake, or vertcoin? This problem isnt new, and it isnt going away. I think its not just an issue, it is THE issue...
Herein lies the catch 22 with ASIC mining:
Initially, ASIC mining makes the network exponentially more secure. But in the end, ASIC mining will make the network MUCH LESS secure.

There is a separate section for news links.
Also, this certainly isnt news and is not even discussion worthy in my opinion.

Well, seeing an actual unit hashing is nice. Even if we dont ROI, we will likely recoup something. Now I kind of wish I had ordered a ton of X1s, those are gonna be easy to flip for $ That, and well, the X3 is still MIA and probably wont be seen for a while yet. The X1 buyers have effectively been subsidized by X3 buyers.
