101  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aegis Authenticator, a decent alternative to Google Authenticator and Authy on: October 16, 2019, 11:25:40 AM

The algorithm is the same. The website provides a shared secret key, which you scan in the form of a QR code when you set it up for the first time. The authenticator uses that key, along with the current time, to generate a code. The website does the same thing to see if the code matches.

that is a heavy argument, I must admit. Well I see, that I learned something new today and I'll give it a try, thank you guys for this info
it is interesting to find something new and useful

Cool

103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aegis Authenticator, a decent alternative to Google Authenticator and Authy on: October 16, 2019, 08:53:23 AM
Every 2FA works everywhere. The site has no idea if you are scanning the QR code with Google, Authy, andOTP, Aegis, or any other app. Hell, you could be writing down the shared secret and calculating your code by hand if there wasn't a time limit. The website doesn't know. All it cares about is the code you return.

strange, but yobit, for example, is not working with any authenticator. but google :

"Two-factor authorization (2fa) improves safety dramatically requesting not only login-password, but also special authorization code. Yobit.net uses 2fa of Google Authenticator utility. To use this possibility please download Google Authenticator on you mobile phone and scan QR-code."

i thought that every Authenticator should have own algo inside it, and on exchange there is a server part of app, while customer has a client part.
so once a customer scan the code which server gives him, they are synchronized to each other.

Open source doesn't mean anyone can edit it and push changes to the app stores. It means anyone can view the code and suggest changes. Changes still have to be agreed upon by the developers, and the community will see these changes before it goes live. Compare that with Google Authenticator which could have any code added to and everyone would be none the wiser. Just because it is released by Google doesn't automatically make it more trustworthy; in fact, I would trust it less. Google Authenticator also hasn't been updated in over 2 years. Not great.

but it is possible to copy the code, modify it, then create fishing site and distribute some bad app, right? it would be eliminated, yes, but some people can suffer.
I agree that we do not know what's inside google auth, but it is used very wide,so if there was a security breach I think it would be known already. I do not trust to google as well, but in given case I consider it as a less evil.

It works, sure, but it is the bare minimum. There is no way to export or back up your database. You can't encrypt or password protect access to it. Not to mention everything owned or developed by Google is spyware. It is a poor choice.

yeap, you are right, that luck of features is a problem, but i'm ok with that. I can't be sure if google auth is a spyware, cause I do not have access to its code. it could be a spyware with the same probability as it could be clean ))
it is not poor choice, I'd say it's careful choice, imo.
104  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Save Yourself From, "Wallet Scammers". on: October 16, 2019, 07:56:05 AM
any email with worlds free, airdrop, your first bitcoin and etc goes directly to trash box without even opening and reading
i know that no on will ever give me anything for free. but there are people who can try to steal something from me  Wink
so no opening shady email - no pain in my brain. safe and sound.
105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Honestly, do you guys think cryptocurrencies will be gone anytime soon? on: October 16, 2019, 06:41:09 AM
evolve. adapt. or die.

right? so if cryptocurrencies will continue evolve and adapt for our fast financial and political world, it can survive.
but, in the case, if crypto are threatening to the real world fiat domination, like Libra did, the return strike will be fast and hard. as it happened with Libra, regulators hit, and important partners of libra quit the project. now LIbra is dead. this could happen to any cryptocurrency which will influence to fiat world too much
106  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aegis Authenticator, a decent alternative to Google Authenticator and Authy on: October 16, 2019, 05:53:41 AM
i'm using google Authenticator and have no plans to change it.
why?  I do not care about design of app, all I need is the raw functionality
also it is important that google is working on every exchange
and I have a little more trust to it, then let's see this open source app - yes, it is open source, that is good for any who is ok with the code, but if you know nothing about programming, then for you it is no use.
anyone who have good skill in programming may add some bad code to it, compile and you can download this bad app.. surely this bad code will be detected and wiped out, but it will take some time, while you will be on risk..
that is why I think for me there is no cause to change Google Authenticator for something else.
it is working, right? so let it be working further  Cool
107  Economy / Economics / Re: Can a Stock Market Crash affect Bitcoin? on: October 16, 2019, 05:30:07 AM
why not? invest foundations, investors, brokers, invest companies they all are thinking about profits.
be sure, that if they will find out that investments in crypto is more profitable and less risky then in stock market
this money flows are always in the move looking for more valuable place to be invested..

109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: retrospective of your thoughts on: October 16, 2019, 03:34:03 AM
first I heard about it in 2013, but did not pay attention to it at all! Next time when I got connection to crypto, was 2015,  I guess, some people proposed to pay for my goods by bitcoin payment, I checked and decided to decline  Grin
so more seriously I've studied the question of bitcoin in 2017, june.
I believed in it, when I got some seriouse money made from trading and mining altcoins.. yeah.. 2017, a golden year of bitcoin, altcoins...
I wonder if these times ever come  back  Cool
110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency in the next financial crisis on: October 16, 2019, 03:08:42 AM
Life is rather uncertain nowadays as anything can happen at any time and we would be caught off guard. That’s also one way to describe the current economy at this stage. With the world’s economy expanding and expanding there have been more crashes as the years go by and they are becoming more frequent and some say at any moment one could happen.

So you are left with a situation in which the money you currently own, fiat money: the dollar bills & coins, will become worthless and you cannot even buy anything you need to survive on a day to day basis. In this situation, people will have to resort to a system of bartering like in the stone ages. I guess if you have a lot of stuff with value you can trade that would be great, but a majority of people don’t have such a stash. Things can get ugly real fast.

Therefore, in such a doomsday situation you have to come up with a situation in which you can trade with people in order to survive. There are two solutions I can come up with, either using precious metals such as Gold & Silver or using Cryptocurrency. Considering that fiat currency is useless, Cryptocurrency might raise in value so that it can be useful as a means of trade as long as the Internet still exists which will most likely be the case.

in the case of such crisis I don't think that any of cryptocurrensy  will survive. in order to use them you need internet, electricity, computers - all such stuff won't be available at all, or there will be shortage of it, and that is why it will be useless..
but there are some really important stuff you will need and it can be used as barter - cigarettes, patrons, conserves, chocolate..
these things will be really valuable!

111  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Banks are Blocking funds? From Exchangers on: October 15, 2019, 04:06:44 PM
unfortunately it is nit rumours!
banks can do it and they do it! but! it depends on the country you live, money amount as well and exchange office also is important.
some of them do not have licenses and then you may have a problem, you will have to prove where you got the money
maybe - you'll have to pay taxes. usually after some time and after submitting required documents - banks deblock transfer
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC- When it back to 20k on: October 15, 2019, 12:09:22 PM
i feel for your pain, mate!
but though this is the forum about crypto, I doubt any of folks and girls who talking here knows what price of bitcoin will be in 6 month
and even there are couple who know, why they would share? and even if they share ( cause they are super ), will you believe them?!
so even in this topic there are several different dates, you may choose one. which one you choose?
to many questions without answers. all you have to do is wait for the right price for you.
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - Store of Value or Method of Payment on: October 15, 2019, 11:18:38 AM
It really depends on your way of thinking about Bitcoin, obviously there are going to be people that are only interested in the currency purely for monetary gain, and other people who actually support the currency.

I am personally of the second type of people, and haven't really been very interested in the price movements side of BTC, but more the adoption and media attention it recieves, which is very interesting.

may I ask a question, how the one can support the bitcoin by owning it? if I have, say, 10 btc how strong my support for bitcoin is?
and if I have 1000 btc will my support of btc become stronger? I'm not quite get how it is working? Roll Eyes
if I'm trading with bitcoins- I can see how I support bitcoin - I create turnover, exchanges are earning fees, because of huge turnovers , bitcoin attracts attention of media, researches, traders and so on.
but just holding bitcoin you do nothing.
114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is BNB the Next Bitcoin? on: October 15, 2019, 09:09:35 AM
i see a totally different model of distribution between coins aimed at world domination or a local exchange coin.
take, for example, bitcoin cash and bnb. the first one became avail on many exchanges right from the start, while bnb main market is a home market of binance.
but does it mean that bnb won't develop and expand?  hard to say.
maybe we will see a natural development model, when bnb will continue to gain trade volume and at certain moment it could rapid expand to other exchanges.
and that will lead even more growth of trade volumes..
or it could be the way at it is now, just trading on home station
but I will watch for bnb, it is really interesting how it will evolve
115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reality of tokens on: October 15, 2019, 06:10:25 AM
it turns out it's easy to make an ICO scam only with $ 50, with $ 50 you have got a complete package to start fraud, this work can be done by one person without having to mobilize a team, because it cheapness will be a lot of fake projects that use this service,
meaning it needs special supervision on the bounty. did anyone know how many are campaign that use this service.

the cheaper it becomes, the more projects appears and more people got scammed and as final result, less and less people will go into it.
seems like natural regulations. but that is also means that scammers will launch new HYIP project soon to scam people

116  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bad experience with exchanges on: October 15, 2019, 04:09:18 AM
yes, I've had bad experience and I think many folks from bitcointalk suffered from closing of cryptopia exchange.
so for me it was not huge amount lost there, but my friend lost about 1.5 btc on cryptopia
and we have no idea if we ever could get it back..  other then that, usually all troubles with exchanges were covered by support.

118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why don't US gov buy a trillion worth of bitcoin? on: October 14, 2019, 03:08:51 PM
I assume that they need to justify their purchases and Bitcoin is not quite cheap. Also I don't think there is enough liquidity in the market to purchase massive amount and OTC desks don't possess that kind of liquidity either. Moreover once the world sees that USA govt. started stacking Bitcoins what do you think the other countries will do? - Will follow of course and create a snowball effect sky rocketing the price of bitcoin.

They do. Buying Bitcoin would raise questions. Who agreed to it? Who is lobbying for Bitcoin in the government? Maybe those politicians don't believe in the usd? Maybe if they don't believe they know something and are trying to dump some of their paper money for digital gold?
A government buying Bitcoin is on a way to panic, hyperinflation, losing voter support, and more. Most governments that admit their fiat is doing bad try something like this. Look at Venezuela.

oh, common! who will be asking this questions and who will answer that? taking into account current life style of people, if media will tell them that government is buying bitcoin to insure national security, no one will ask questions  Grin
"national security" phrase will shut any mouth. I think the main problem - they can't take over control over it. it is just too decentralized already.
But maybe they will start their own project based on blockchain technology, like digital dollar or something like that, why not?
119  Economy / Economics / Re: BEEN IN THIS GAME FOR 6 YEARS on: October 14, 2019, 12:42:37 PM
your friends live their lives with their own thought and decisions, mate. I learned in my life few good habits : do not lend money to friend and do not give them advice about money.
that habits saved a lot of friends to me) so before giving advises about btc to your friends think twice, do you really need to do that?
cause, you know, if your advice could be bad, your friend will loose his money and guess who will be to blame?
120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: Stress and Happiness on: October 14, 2019, 11:47:16 AM
there is one more thing in a man life which cause almost same emotions of stress and happiness. a Wife.
see, a started this word with a capital "W". just in case, you know.  Cool

as per your question, I remember that I lived in crypto in 2017. I knew every minute exchange rate for many coins to btc, a lot of deals were in progress and so on..
but once bitcoin went down, my everyday life slowly took over crypto. so yes, I have some btc, sometimes I do some deal, but not stress for me now, and that is really good. it is just a part of life.
