3301  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Personal Server 0.2.0 Released on: January 02, 2020, 10:45:24 PM
Not as far as I'm aware... BTC, BCH and BSV should all be using different datadirs...

It's possible that the ABC node is still being stupid and attempting to hijack existing BTC datadirs, like it did when the fork first happened... But as far as I'm aware, they stopped doing that.

I've successfully run BTC, BCH, BTG and other full nodes on the same machine at the same time.
3302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: restoring and spending bitcoin on: January 02, 2020, 10:42:35 PM
That's very odd. It doesn't generate an error when you broadcast it... But it seems like it is not being propagated Huh Undecided

So, possibly your transaction is not being broadcast correctly. What happens if you copy the raw transaction hex (result from gettransaction command)...

And paste it here to broadcast it: https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/pushtx/

Does it broadcast Ok? Do you get an error?
3303  Economy / Lending / Re: Free lightning tests on: January 01, 2020, 07:33:52 PM
Received...

I have no idea how 1ml works... I even have a channel open with them! But when I search for my node's public key, it doesn't find anything at all Roll Eyes I tried creating an account, but that only lets you "claim" nodes that are returned on the search...

It isn't a huge deal really as far as I can tell... it's probably an issue with the underlying "lnd" not being publicly accessible... I've probably missed a setting somewhere (like with Bitcoin Core allowing incoming connections etc) Tongue

I'm slowly working some of this out... while playing with fractions of pennies!  Grin Grin Cheesy

You can repay the 20000 sats here... (it's valid for 24 hrs and the node should have something like 99% uptime Wink)
Code:

Now I just need to figure out why my lightning node isn't showing up on 1ml.com Undecided
3306  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Personal Server 0.2.0 Released on: January 01, 2020, 07:07:36 PM
Is it possible to run electrumX, electron cash, electrum SV, with BCH and BSV on the same OS as one running Bitcoin Core, electrum, and eps?
I know you can run "Electrum", "Electron Cash" and "Electrum SV" at the same time... they all use different data directories and wallets. In addition, you can run Bitcoin Core alongside all of these without issue.

The problem you'll have is trying to use "Electron Cash" and "Electrum SV" with your own local "EPS", as I believe that "EPS" is only designed to work with Bitcoin Core and BTC... it will not work properly with forks like BCH and BSV.

"ElectrumX" however does support forks... and quite a lot of them... so you could theoretically run ElectrumX against a BCH or BSV full node client and then connect to it with "Electron Cash" or "Electrum SV". You would need a separate instance of "ElectrumX" for each coin/fork that you wanted to access.

So, something like this:

ElectrumX #1 -> Bitcoin Core
ElectrumX #2 -> Bitcoin ABC (or whatever the bch full node is called these days)
ElectrumX #3 -> BitcoinSV Core

You could then use:

Electrum -> ElectrumX #1
ElectronCash -> ElectrumX #2
ElectrumSV -> ElectrumX #3

Thanks, this has been repaid:

I'm slowly picking up some of the realities of Lightning... like how you can commit a bunch of sats to a channel... and the other party can end up offline for days... and then you need to wait 144 blocks to force close the channel to get your sats back! Undecided
3308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: restoring and spending bitcoin on: January 01, 2020, 06:37:24 PM
What is the result of that? Do you get an error? Or does it simply return the TransactionID? Huh
it simply return the TransactionID.
Ok... so now what does it say when you right click the transaction in the history list and select "show transaction details"? What is the "status" now?

It should either say something like "0/unconfirmed, in memory pool" or... hopefully, it now says "XXX confirmations"

Sweet... received... Feel free to post up a request and I'll repay it... probably a good idea to make it valid for 24 hours if you can. Otherwise, I'll do my best! Wink

Just remove everything before the "function dobet()" line, then put it on the first line... And click "start". That should make it set the currency for you.
3312  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How do I set up my Electrum Wallet to Legacy? on: December 31, 2019, 08:11:34 PM
I'll admit I've done this.  I've used my bech32 hot-wallet seed to create a p2sh wallet for temporary use.  Why is doing so such a bad idea?
Unless you know what you're doing and/or make some good notes regarding what you've done, doing "non-standard" things, "hacks" and/or "tricks" can come back to bite you in the arse in the future.

What happens should Electrum no longer support BIP39 next release and make changes so that older versions can't be used? You're then stuck with an (non-BIP39) Electrum seed that you can't use in Electrum to find your P2SH wallet... And won't be recognised as valid by BIP39 wallets! Undecided

While the chances of that happening are relatively small (non-existent) today... Who knows what will happen in a year... Or 5... When your computer dies and you need to recover wallets etc. Tongue

Quote
If you want to use the same seed to create both Legacy and SegWit wallets... then I'd recommend using an actual BIP39 seed (generated by some other method like a native BIP39 wallet, the Ian Coleman Tool or hand generated following BIP39 standard etc). However, I still think that is a "Bad Idea"™

And, is this a bad idea for the same reasons?
No, it's not bad for the same reason... At least this way, you have a BIP39 seed... So should be able to recover using any BIP39 wallet that supports SegWit and possibly custom derivation paths etc.

This setup is mostly a bad idea because generating seeds external to the wallet has the potential to compromise the wallet unless proper precautions are taken.

If you're comfortable with it all and happy with your OpSec then it's not that big of a deal... I just wouldn't be recommending it to newbies or as a "proper" way to do things.
3313  Economy / Lending / Re: Why borrow here when you have a collateral? on: December 31, 2019, 07:36:35 AM
Yes... it does seem a bit counter-intuitive right? If you have $100 worth of ETH... why would you need a $100 loan of BTC, right? Huh

Well, as others have hinted at, sometimes... you need BTC, but all you have are ETH or ERC-20 tokens... perhaps the service or goods you want to purchase only accept BTC and you don't want to go through the hassle of selling ETH/ERC-20 tokens, then buying BTC then paying the service provider and all the fees for the various transactions... or maybe you just don't have the time and need it urgently as trading ERC-20 tokens can take a while if their is low liquidity... ETH is probably easier if you're willing to accept the margin loss for using "instant" exchanges etc.

Borrowing here should really be a "last resort", as opposed to being your first port of call... unless it's for relatively low amounts or when you urgently need some crypto to cover something and you have suitable collateral to cover it.

The risks carried by lenders in the crypto space generally far outweigh traditional real world lenders... you can't size up an individual by looking at them, and it's difficult to get a feel by talking to them via PM/IM etc... essentially it is very difficult to know anything for certain about them. In a lot of instances, you can't even be sure where they live... or if you'll be able to track them down should anything go wrong.
3314  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 31, 2019, 07:13:35 AM
I believe in the miracle of football , catching up 20 points is not impossible. Manchester city has the ability to do that.
Citeh would need to win all 18 games remaining to make a maximum of 95 points for the season. Same with Leicester... they can make a max of 96 by winning their last 18 game straight... ie. a 100% winrate for basically half the season, when they already have only a 65% win rate at 13 wins out of 20 played.

To better those totals, Liverpool only need to win 14 of their 19 remaining games (~74% win rate) and could lose the other 5. In fact, they could beat Citeh and draw even with Leicester with only 11 wins and 8 draws, but they have GD of +9 on Leicester. And a single slip by Citeh or Leicester at this point will make it even more of a mountain for them to climb.

Having said that, we're really only halfway through the season... anything can happen still, and until it is mathematically impossible for the others to win, I'm not counting my Liverbirds before they've hatched! Tongue Wink

#YNWA

Talking about Liverpool match, I guess you are talking about the match against Wolves? I can not remember their goal (watching too many matches these days so I mix up LOL)
It was a long ball from van Dijk, that came off Lallana's shoulder/chest and was finished by Mane... it was reviewed by VAR and rightly awarded.

Quote
but the goal that was scored by Wolves just before the half time, should have been stand.
As with some of Liverpool's VAR offside reviews where a players "armpit" was ruled offside(!!?! Shocked Roll Eyes)... it was shown that the Wolves player was offside by the smallest of margins... so it was quite rightly disallowed for offside.

I must admit... my lightning knowledge is not quite as good as I thought it was... Undecided

You can refund yourself the 900000 sats via CoinPlaza.IT by sending them funds via LN and receiving them back via the chain.  You will have 900,000 inbound and 100,000 outbound capacity without having to buy it from any third party nodes.
Is the idea just to goto their exchange and send them whatever sats I have and request it back to the wallet on-chain address? I don't understand how that will create inbound/outbound capacity if I do that? Huh

Am I supposed to create a channel first? As I can't seem to create a channel to coinplaza.it at this time... I'm just getting "funding errors" when trying to create the channel (tried 250k, 200k, 150k and 100k). So I'm guessing they're not accepting new channels or they're out of capacity or something? Undecided

3317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Accidentely delete address before I receive fund on: December 30, 2019, 11:29:01 PM
Is the coloured dot in the bottom right corner of your Electrum green or red? or is it "blue arrows"?

Green?

Red?

Blue arrows?

The only reason for no transaction to show in your history is because your Electrum is not synced/connected (red dot or blue arrows)... OR the other user has not actually sent the transaction yet (or they sent to the wrong address).

and there been like 10 hours since he sayed he sent the payment
Ask the sender to give you the "TransactionID" for the transaction they supposedly sent to you... and then check that TransactionID on a blockexplorer like btc.com, blockcypher, blockstream.com blockchain.com etc etc.

It's also possible they're sending funds from an online service like an exchange or gambling website that does "delayed" transactions (ie. they have to be "approved" etc) which may be causing the delay.
3318  Economy / Lending / Re: Free lightning tests on: December 30, 2019, 10:59:06 PM
Oh man... I think I've really done it now... I finally got LND working (apparently, you need to have "datadir" specified in bitcoin.conf so LND can find the bitcoin datadir!?!?)... and I got ZAP wallet setup with it as well... Meant to fund it with 100,000 sats... accidentally sent 1,000,000 Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Then realised, it wasn't actually in the LND node wallet... but in some random wallet I created in ZAP Roll Eyes Roll Eyes I should really learn to do these things on testnet first! Tongue

Anyway, now waiting for the channel funding transactions to confirm (yay for 20 minute block times Roll Eyes) and then I can try playing with some of this money and see how it works with my own wallet instead of the custodial BlueWallet.

EDIT: Finally got it up and running... anyway, I'm having some "inbound capacity" issues... so is there any chance we can do a "reverse" loan? Where I send you money first... and then I get it back later? If so, please post up a payment request for anything under 100,000 sats (preferably valid for 24 hours) and I'll see if I can pay it Wink

The tale of the "virtue signaler"
As a non-native English speaker, I have no idea what it means, and "a pejorative neologism for the conspicuous expression of moral values." just adds more words I don't know.

Further on in the wikipedia article...
The term is characterized by the signaler's desire to show support for a cause without actually acting to support the cause in question. An important characteristic of virtue signaling is that there is little to no cost associated with the act; simple public vocalization in support of a cause has no cost to the signaler. In Bartholomew's original article, he describes virtue signaling as a public act with very little associated cost that is intended to inform others of one's socially acceptable alignment on an issue.

Personally, I also tend to agree with some of the criticisms that are mentioned in that article...
In a similar vein, political theorist and economist Sam Bowman argued that the term is hypocritical in that calling out another individual's actions as virtue signaling is simply another form of virtue signaling, executed to heighten the perceived status of the accuser.

But then... that's just virtue signalling on my part Roll Eyes Tongue
