Do you mind if I use the same layout ?   (with due credits, and link toward your original post).
Sure... for a one off "licensing fee" of 0.1BTC Tongue Grin

Seriously tho... Do what you like... I'd hardly call it a layout! I typed some stuff up, chucked in a couple of screenshots and used some bold, underline and some horizontal lines Tongue If you do create a new thread, either post a link here or PM me or something so I can add it in.
3462  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Black Friday - 30% discount (25 November - 2 December). on: December 02, 2019, 03:06:42 AM
I'm finding the Ledger S absolute rubbish on my Win10 64 laptop along with LL.
It's forever syncing or stuck on 'go to display screen om Ledger Device' or something similar.
It's taken me 3 days to add BTC, BCH and XRP ( i also hold another 10 coins at least!!)
It honestly sounds like some weird issue that would seem to be specific to your Win10 laptop and/or your Nano S device... dud unit? bad USB ports? bad driver install? Huh It is very strange. Do your accounts have hundreds/thousands of transactions or something? Huh Are you running via a VPN or TOR? Huh

I have zero issues connecting/installing apps/uninstalling apps/adding accounts etc. It takes a matter of seconds to add/remove apps... and scanning/adding accounts takes less than a minute etc. But I only have like maybe 15-20 transactions in my accounts.

It is also quite possible that your device itself is bad. Maybe try and create a ticket with Ledger Support... see if they can help you troubleshoot the issues with your laptop/device combo and maybe get a new device if it is determined to be the source of the problem. It certainly shouldn't take more than a few minutes to get an app installed and an account setup in Ledger Live... let alone "hours"!!?! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Quote
I don't understand how people can say use the s as a backup and x fo use?
Surely they would just be to completely new wallets with different recovery keys/differnt password.?
Or are you relating to somehow combining the two?
Correct. You basically just have the same seed mnemonic restored on both devices... they will essentially be "clones" of each other... So, if one device breaks, you should be able to simply use the other device and it will have all the same wallets/accounts available etc.

Quote
Plus i have read that the S can now only hold 2 apps at a time with LL!!
It was never as low as "2 apps"... and it has nothing to do with Ledger Live... but with the fixed memory size of the device itself... and that some apps in the 1.5.5 firmware unfortunately ended up with an increased size that restricted the number of apps that could be stored on the device being lowered. I believe that it would generally be around 4 or 5 apps (depending on the specific apps used).

In any case, as of Firmware 1.6.0... vast improvements have been made and the app sizes reduced (particularly ETH), so it's now possible to have a much larger number of apps stored on the device at the same time. I got BTC, BCH, DOGE, LTC, ETH, STELLAR and XRP and I think I still have more room for apps.

Quote
EDIT - I have been tryimng for hours to add LTC, it's just stuck on 'Navigate to DASHBOARD on your Device'
I'm sure you're aware that the "dashboard" on your device is the screen that allows to you scroll through all the apps + settings option... you should NOT have any app "open" on the device... if you do, scroll to the "Quit App" option and select it.

Real data like you are giving us from an impartial user is what is needed, if you make money then awesome (not denying that his bot will give returns)
I had originally being hoping to be the first to do this, and was going to wait for the first week before posting... but it seems guigui371 beat me to the punch! Tongue

In a similar vein to what guigui371 has already done, I was initially just going to post up my results... then decided I should probably just start my own discussion thread: "HCP's (at least) one month long experiment of the Arakne Trading Bot"™
3464  Economy / Service Discussion / "HCP's ongoing experiment of the BotHIVE.io Trading Platform"™ on: December 02, 2019, 02:28:20 AM
UPDATE: 2021-05-09

REKT!

Who would have guessed? Roll Eyes

UPDATE: 2020-04-21

Ok, so it's been fairly quiet since Arakne failed in spectactular fashion at the beginning of Feb... but you can now follow along as I try to lose the rest of my ~0.035BTC out the new Trading Platform that has risen up from the ashes of Arakne... Say hello to BotHIVE.io...

EDIT: 2019-12-30
So the "month" has ended... and after a nice little gain to start, the bot got #rekt.

Firstly, by "manipulation" Roll Eyes Roll Eyes... resulting in a stoploss being triggered and a 30% loss of balance (ending in a -18% overall). Then more recently, an early Christmas "present"... A giant lump of coal! Undecided a 2nd massive loss, this one due to some pretty broken bot mechanics!

Anyway, as per my explanation here, I figure I may as well just let it run... and will continue to update once (if? Huh) the bot is back online.

Backstory:

Ok, so I somewhat stumbled across this service due to the bunfight between TMAN and the Service Owner. I think I originally followed a link from the "shit post" thread? Anyway, I digress... so after some (possibly ill advised) alcohol consumption, the old gambler in me was itching for something new. Rather than focus on somewhat ludicrous claims from backtests (I've never been a real fan of such things) and what I perceive to be possible language difficulties and personality conflicts (and with LoyceV's 10 month Altcoin experiment on hiatus)... I decided the "best"(??!?) way forward was to just "roll the dice" and see if it works Tongue Lips sealed

So, without further ado, welcome to the first month of "HCP's (at least) one month long ongoing experiment of the Arakne Trading Bot"™

Initial Setup:

The original service thread has been filled with claims and counter-claims (and what I would deem to be "BadMaths"™), so I did some napkin math of my own and decided that the "minimum" investment amount of $100 wasn't going to cut it, as (should be obvious to anyone that can do basic math) the returns would quickly be eaten by the 30% commission and $10/month VPS fee... you'd need be making at least 15% a month in GROSS profit just to cover both of those... for the math impaired: 15% of $100 = $15... -30% ($4.50) commission  = $10.50 - $10 VPS = 0.50c NET profit... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Hardly what one would consider a "stellar" return on investment! Tongue

So, partly because I like round numbers and partly because that was what I had laying around and partly because I figured I could afford to lose that much without being tooooo upset about it, I decided that I would commit 0.1BTC (around US$735 at the time of deposit) as the initial investment... and paid the US$10 VPS (0.00133645BTC) up front. Setup was relatively easy... I just needed to signup for a BitMEX account, deposit the initial amount, create an "order only" API key and then pay the VPS fee (via Coinify I believe). There was a slight delay in getting setup because the bot was already in "trade mode" but as it turns out, that actually worked out in my favour Wink

Basically, because I was fucking about getting all my stuff sorted and asking questions, it seems like I got "lucky" and the bot was already in the middle of the "loss" trade that the other users encountered a few days ago, so my account wasn't setup until after that had finished. #blindDumbLuck

The purpose of this thread (similar to what guigui371 has done in the service thread) is an effort to document the performance of the bot, from a "basic" starting position of 0.1BTC... I'll be looking at posting semi-regular updates, with little if anything in the way of judgement. I'm happy for the numbers to speak for themselves... "warts and all", wins and losses etc.

Current Results:

Daily Results:

Overall Results:

So, after 3 days of trading my account is 17% up... 0.01772045BTC ~= US$134 GROSS (~= US$84 ~= 11% NET profit with commission and VPS accounted for). A positive start. Will be interesting to see where I am at the end of my month Tongue #fingersCrossed

NOTES:

- Deposit was made on Nov 29, but Bot was only setup and running on Nov 30th in my timezone UTC+13.

- It seems there is something wierd in the display of dates by BitMEX... today is Dec 2nd UTC+13, so not sure how BitMEX is already in Dec 3rd??!? Huh Huh Huh

- I am aware that some users DO NOT have to pay the VPS fee due to special promo's and deals... I am NOT one of those users, nor does it appear that this deal is currently available (I asked when signing up), so the VPS fee will be included in all my calculations until such time that the "$50 monthly commission == Free VPS" rule kicks in.

- I have been advised that there are likely to be a few minor 0.000000xx BTC "losses" incurred from time to time due to a problem with the BitMEX API. My understanding of this problem is that if you don't trigger the API at least once in a 24hr period, it can become unresponsive and "freeze", meaning that the bot will no longer be able to function properly. The end result is that on days when the Bot is not trading, there needs to be a small instant "buy/sell" type trade just to keep the API "active". Again, this is my interpretation of the issue and probably a bit oversimplified, so I apologise for any inaccuracies.

As I said, going forward, I shall try to regularly post the results so there is some more "independent" data available to complement what guigui371 has already provided in the main service thread.

Also, I should point out, that I am a complete novice idiot when it comes to trading... I have no idea about margins, positions, leverage etc... The limit of my knowledge and trading has been at the level of "lets buy some BTC at $X... lets sell some BTC at $Y"... hopefully with X < Y! Tongue Wink So, don't be expecting any in-depth market analysis or pretty charts with lines drawn all over them claiming to predict the next pump or dump... it'll basically be some screenshots showing daily and overall results with the basic calculations of GROSS and NET profit as above Wink

<insert disclaimer here about this being an independent project and should NOT be seen as an endorsement of either the service or the service owner. It is simply documenting the performance of the bot and I am not receiving any kickbacks or payments for doing so>
3465  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Need help updating old Ledger Nano S firmware 1.2 on: December 01, 2019, 11:49:51 PM
Oh, I believe you... I'm just astonished that Ledger would be shipping such devices! Shocked Shocked Shocked

They're effectively sending out "non-functional" Nano S's!!?! I hope this hasn't happened to too many other folks... That would be a very poor user experience to receive a "new" device that was effectively D.O.A.! Undecided
3466  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Need help updating old Ledger Nano S firmware 1.2 on: December 01, 2019, 11:35:32 AM
Yeah, if you got it 5 months ago, write to Ledger Support... They'll definitely replace it for free.

I just find it strange that they had stock with such an old firmware... 1.3.1 was released 28 February 2017!!?! Not sure why they would have a device on 1.2 in June 2019??!? Huh Shocked Shocked Shocked

Ok... so pretty graphs with colourful lines scribbled on them aside... what are the odds that we're going to get back up over $9K (or 10K) before the end of the year? Personally... I'm not hearing a lot of positive sentiment... but then, I'm not really hearing a lot of negatives either... most people I'm talking to seem to think we're going to bumble along in the $7-8k range for a while.
3471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beginner’s giveaway | guess first Bitcoin Block in 2020 [9.5 mBTC] on: December 01, 2019, 02:28:38 AM
I'll take the "easy" route...

610538

For the benefit of others, I'll explain how I derived that value.

Basically... time to the CET midnight cutoff = 30 days, 20 hours 37 mins => (((30 * 24) + 20) * 60) + 37) minutes => 44437 minutes until the midnight cutoff... "Average" desired blocktime is 10 minutes/block... so 44437/10 => 4443.7 blocks should be mined before that time. Current block height is 606095... so 606095 + 4443 = 610538.

This ignores a LOT of variables mentioned in the OP, like difficulty adjustments etc... but I'm lazy and wanted to force others to do the hard work Wink
3472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wasabi Wallet Shows Public Key - Privacey Concerns on: December 01, 2019, 02:14:58 AM
"counterparty" implies the two of you are transacting. if a counterparty is sending you BTC then he already knows that public key. that's how bitcoin works, by leveraging public-key cryptography.
That's not strictly true... If I tell the counter party to send to "1PQt7uqFwrrUBKSEo5MxNK355JrFuiV9Tg"... then they have the hash (of a hash + some other bits) of my public key... but they don't have the public key itself. There is no way they can convert from "1PQt7uqFwrrUBKSEo5MxNK355JrFuiV9Tg" to "02BCF1E101DD5DA48A8FE26CE72F22DE8E42BBA39D782FCC1F8FE11745D83068F2" (without other things, like a signature)

Not that it really makes a difference from either a privacy or security point of view. There isn't a lot anyone can do with either unless you've been stupid and linked UTXOs by being careless when creating spending transactions.

But I think it is an important distinction between "public key" and "address".

I am wondering, if you get you public key exposed in public,
can other people more easily connect all your generated public addresses, and that way reduce your privacy?
Short Answer: No.

Longer Answer:
Public Key = No
Master Public Key = Yes
3473  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please suggest a legitimate mixer / tumbler. on: December 01, 2019, 01:57:59 AM
+1 for ChipMixer (or here for TOR link)... I've used it multiple times and aside from suffering from the odd DDoS attack every now and again... it is quite reliable. Provides outputs in the force of "legacy" address private keys... so you're free to sweep or import as you desire.

+1 for Wasabi Desktop wallet and it's builtin CoinJoin system. Pretty easy to use and a solid mixing solution.
3474  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I put images on BitcoinTalk? ... I know it has been asked before... on: December 01, 2019, 01:53:06 AM
I would lock the topic but I am afraid I am going to have to pay for that too.
Nope... that's a free service... bottom left hand corner, just above the "quick reply" box... click the "lock topic" link.

3475  Economy / Reputation / Re: A Song of Vices and Ire: Alternate Account Campaign Enrollment on: December 01, 2019, 01:39:59 AM
What has always confused me... is the fervour with which some folks seem to hunt out these alt accounts who are "abusing campaigns"... I'm not sure if they see it as an "easy" way to score some merits, as opposed to other forms of contribution to the forum? Huh

Surely, it is up to the campaign managers to decide whether or not people should be allowed to enrol with alts... in addition, it should be the campaign managers, who are actually paid to be managing the campaign in the first place to be actively managing and checking for this... if required by their campaign rules.

I suspect in the majority of the ICO/IEO/altcoin campaigns, neither the project owners nor the campaign managers really care... about alts or spam... they just want maximum exposure for the 0.00000002BTC worth of tokens they're going to have to give out to the participants... if they even bother to give any out Roll Eyes

The current system of linking all these accounts and redtagging them is generally just a never-ending game of "whack-a-mole" with low rank spammers/bounty hunters... personally I find the "report to moderator" system works quite well, as that is what is most likely to have the greatest (monetary) impact on these accounts... having their posts deleted and their post count reduced.
3476  Other / Archival / Re: ledger nano x - not recognized by Electrum on Windows on: December 01, 2019, 01:16:11 AM
Probably grasping at straws here, but have you tried:

1. Restarting the computer... DO NOT start Ledger Live, just start Electrum and see if it detects the device
2. Plugging the Nano X into a different USB port (windows should detect it as a "new" device), then see if Electrum can see it
3477  Economy / Lending / Re: Free lightning tests on: December 01, 2019, 01:12:51 AM
Yeah... I just opened my wallet up now and saw this:

I think it might actually be because I just realised that my "BlueWallet" lightning wallet is actually just linked to a Telegram Bot Lightning Wallet... @lntxbot https://t.me/lntxbot (you use the /bluewallet command in Telegram and it provides an LND hub URL which you can enter into BlueWallet)

So, this bot is probably running 24/7 and will be able to receive regardless of what I'm doing on my end! Tongue Wink Which is great... but then fails on the "not your keys, not your coins" test! Roll Eyes  I've actually no idea how to get coins out of this wallet into a standard bitcoin wallet!!?! I should probably investigate how to do that at some point... Cheesy Shocked Lips sealed
3478  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Lost Electrum wallet file after upgrade on: December 01, 2019, 12:52:42 AM
proposal to create a new wallet. maybe the problem arose because before that I used and updated the portable version and this time installed through the Windows Installer. I used to update an empty wallet. and for the first time decided to update in a hurry non-empty.
Definitely sounds like the "portable" version was used originally.

In that case, you need to look where you had the portable.exe file... in that location you should find the "electrum_data" folder as mentioned by IeSua:

and in that folder you should see "wallets":

Once you find that... you can then either copy the wallet file from there to your "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets" folder or you can just use the "File -> Open" option in your installed 3.3.8 version of Electrum to navigate to the wallet file in the portable "electrum_data" folder
3479  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor accounts on: December 01, 2019, 12:44:34 AM
Ok, I thought that it was like the passphrases.
So if I receive transaction to Account #1 and Account #2 in my wallet with passphrase "abcde". Then if I send from Account #2, the recipient will not only see that the transaction is from "Account #2". They will see my wallet "abcde"?
It might help if you understand how the accounts are actually derived... Starting from your "seed mnemonic" (12/24 words), the mnemonic is converted to a "seed" (a very large number)... Then from this seed, various "derivation paths" are used to derive various things (based on BIP44 standard)

The derivation path format is: m / purpose' / coin_type' / account' / change / address_index

For BIP44, purpose is always "44"...  For "Bitcoin", the coin_type is "0", for BCH it is "145"... (other registered coin_types are listed here: https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0044.md)

Then you get to account... these are simply a "0 indexed" value... so you start from 0 and increment as you want to use a new account.

Account #1 - m/44'/0'/0'
Account #2 - m/44'/0'/1'
Account #3 - m/44'/0'/2'
Account #4 - m/44'/0'/3'

You can read more here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0044.mediawiki

The "labels" you see in Trezor GUI or Ledger Live etc... are simply that... "labels". They are not stored anywhere except within the apps themselves. If you wipe and reset the device... or restore to another device, the accounts will still be viewable simply by looking at the correct derivation path (which both Trezor Wallet and Ledger Live will do automagically)... however the "labels" will NOT be recoverable (unless you have backed them up somehow, trezor uses dropbox etc)

As for what the recipient will see... ALL they will see is the "addresses/public keys" of the UTXOs that were used to fund the transaction (and the address/public key of a change address if any)... they will NOT be able to see the contents/addresses of any of the other "accounts".

As far as I am aware, both Trezor and Ledger do NOT allow you to spend from multiple accounts in one transaction... you are only able to spend from 1 account per transaction (but it might be using multiple UTXOs from that account that are from different addresses/public keys).

Ie. if you had the following:

Account 1:
Address1A - 0.5 BTC
Address1B - 0.1 BTC
Address1C - 0.2 BTC

Account 2:
Address2A - 0.3 BTC

- You couldn't create a transaction that sends 1 BTC as neither of your accounts has 1 BTC total.
- If you tried to send 0.6 BTC from Account 1... it could use Address1A & Address1B to send... and the recipient would see both of those but NOT Address1C. Nor would it know anything about Account 2 (and it's addresses/amounts)
- If you sent 0.1 BTC from Account 2... it would use Address2A, create a change address (ChangeAddress2A)... and the recipient would see your original Address2A AND your newly created ChangeAddress2A but would know nothing about Account 1 (and it's addresses/amounts)
3480  Economy / Lending / Re: Free lightning tests on: December 01, 2019, 12:16:14 AM
Great Success!

Ok... so as a test... can you please try sending some back? and I'll have my wallet closed... This is an invoice for like 100 sats
