3544  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC sent to an unknown address. shows "unspent" on: November 22, 2019, 10:54:19 PM
Thanks, so originally when I placed the order it prompted a "payment gateway" with a BTC address.

...The processing screen disconnected...
Then you (or the merchant) will need to contact the "Payment Gateway" provider and ask them to investigate. It is quite likely that something has gone wrong on their end and the payment for the order has not be registered correctly, so the merchant has not received his funds.

At this point in time, the Payment Gateway Provider are the probably the only people who will be able to track down your coins... as the "1Fb" address most likely belongs to them.

Does the wallet have to belong to someone?
It can't be just a random wallet as each address has a checksum and if you change any character it will be invalid.
Since you use Electrum, it will not allow you to send to an invalid address. So yes, that address must belong to someone.
Note that this isn't strictly true. You can send to any valid address... it doesn't necessarily mean that someone, somewhere has the private keys to it... for instance, "Bitcoin Burner" addresses like "1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE"
3545  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC sent to an unknown address. shows "unspent" on: November 21, 2019, 10:32:52 PM
If you open the transaction in Electrum (double click in transaction history... or right click and select details)... what colour are the 2 outputs?

One should be yellow (your change address)... what colour is the other one? If it is Green, it's one of your addresses and you're somehow sent funds to yourself. If it has no highlighting, then it is an external address.

The funds say "unspent".  So what do you think happened?
"unspent" simply means that outputs created by the transaction have not been spent by whomever received them.

Quote
And why did it create 2 outputs, one of them being mine?  Any suggestions on what to do?
2 outputs is fairly normal when you have "change"... You can't "break" an input... you have to spend the whole thing. Much like having a $20 note in your pocket and trying to spend $1... you have to give the person the whole $20 and they'll give change. Same in bitcoin... you have 0.01 and need to spend 0.002? then the person gets 0.002 and you get 0.008 back to your "change address".

read this for more: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Change

One last thing to check... what version of Electrum are you running? If it is 4.0.0, then it's a fake version. I vaguely recall seeing issues where these fake versions would change the address that funds were being sent to.

Unfortunately the way that most older members act on this forum encourages it. There's so, so many threads which are so obviously just made as a merit grab. "List of all X's" (normally something to do with merit), some weird thread stating something that's obvious to everyone already, etc, and bonus points if they can come up with an excuse to update it regularly. These then get flooded with merit...perhaps partially due to the fact that a lot of people have trouble getting rid of all their sMerit right now, so posts that aren't amazing get a lot regardless.
You're not wrong... the number of "stats" threads which have received insane amounts of merit is quite staggering...

And then there is all the fairly obvious [TIP], [GUIDE], [WARNING] threads being posted in "Beginners & Help". There are only about 3 or 4 posts on the first B&H page that are actual questions from Beginners seeking help... everything else is people bombarding newbies with "help" hoping to get merits Undecided

Could someone with more free time than me check where this entry was plagiarised from? It seems safe to assume it's plagiarised since this user seems incapable of producing any kind of original content.
That would be this one here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.msg52815153#msg52815153

Actual link to original: https://ibb.co/9Tkm4wk

It shouldn't really surprise me that people are so desperate for a few possible merits/BTC that they'll try and rip off stuff like this... in the same super popular (and watched by admins/mods) thread Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
3548  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Server on: November 21, 2019, 07:48:35 PM
If you're just trying to obscure your IP... your options are TOR (or some other VPN). Although, running via VPNs has been the cause of issues for folks in the past. Mostly the inability to connect to servers and/or sync.

I'd check with both "MalwareBytes" and "Spybot Search and Destroy"... to see if they find anything. Not that that really guarantees anything one way or the other due to false positives and that they generally only detect "known" malware.

Personally, when it comes to malware removal... I would be inclined to simply format the machine and reinstall the OS from scratch. It can be a bit of a hassle backing up data and reconfiguring apps etc... but it is generally far more effective in removing malware completely. Undecided

Did you not notice the fact that the scale on the chart was showing only 1000 bets... and that over the course of 111,000+ bets, his "profit" was -0.00010900? Huh Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

0.004BTC for some Dicebot settings??!? Roll Eyes It's a scam... plain and simple. Anyone offering to sell you a "money making script" is a scammer and trying to profit from other people's greed or desperation.

What is a "honey pot" company?
Like a scammer or something like that?
No... he means is it a "honey pot" designed to attract a bunch of (possibly criminal) users by offering "secure, encrypted" email... when in actual fact it is run by CIA/FBI/NSA/Google/KGB/TLA type outfit who can read anything and everything that is passed through the system.

So, not designed as a "scam" as such... more of a "trap".

Just out of curiosity... how are these coins "packaged"? Do they come in a sealed display box or similar? I'm a collectibles-n00b Wink

Recommended? "No"... Why? "Shitcoins"

So... apparently choice is a bad thing now? Huh Especially given that the "shitcoins" that BRD wallet supports are BCH, ETH and ERC20 tokens... 2 of which are Top 4 on CoinMarketCap... hardly what you would call a "shitcoin" Roll Eyes

The metrics used in this "analysis" are very subjective. Undecided
3555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wrong bitcoin address on: November 20, 2019, 07:57:21 PM
It only happens on Kucoin and only with bitcoin.
Then the possibilities I can think of are:

1. Phishing/Fake website... you're not actually logging into Kucoin, but a scam clone version that is hardcoded to use hackers address. Check the URL very carefully... perhaps try to type it out manually instead of relying on a bookmark.

2. Bad browser extension... what browser are you using? and have you looked at the settings to see what extensions/addons are running? Maybe try a different browser to see if the same thing happens.

3. Do you have tampermonkey or greasemonkey installed? If so, check to see what scripts are running... Again, try a different browser to see if the same thing happens.

4. Kucoin specific clipboard hijacker. Can't say I've heard of a clipboard malware that was specific to one site... but it might do it on other exchanges as well. Have you tried other exchanges? or just Kucoin?

If you click on "Manager" in Ledger Live (connect and unlock device and follow instructions in LL)... what firmware is showing?

is it 1.3.1? 1.4.2? 1.5.5? or 1.6.0?

If it is NOT 1.6.0, I suggest you make sure you have your 24 word seed mnemonic backup handy and that you update to 1.6.0
3557  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ProtonMail black friday is on! on: November 20, 2019, 07:33:12 PM
Does anyone really know who is behind proton, its not a honey pot?
They seem pretty open about who they are and what they're doing: https://protonmail.com/about

Most of that information should be easily verifiable.
3558  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: The Ledger Nano S firmware version 1.6 is ready for testing+Final Version! on: November 20, 2019, 07:26:24 PM
Did you have all these apps on firmware 1.5.5 also all at the same time? Is there a noticeable change in the number of apps you can have installed at the same time?
No, I could not have all those installed at the same time while on 1.5.5. The main culprit seemed to be the ETH app. It seemed to be very large and with it installed, the number of "non BTC" apps like Stellar, NEO etc was very limited.

And yes, there is definitely a noticeable change in the number of apps you can install now! Smiley

Quote
I didn't quite understand this part. For which actions do you need to click both buttons?
When opening or exiting apps on the Ledger both buttons need to be clicked on version 1.5.5 as well.
It's more consistent now... so you no longer have "left button = X", "right button = √" options... Instead, you now select a "Approve" or "Reject" screen by scrolling left/right and then click "both buttons" to confirm your selection.

I think some pictures will explain it better:

Old system on firmwares <= 1.5.5 with "X" and "√":

New system on Firmware 1.6.0:

This system should prevent accidentally confirming/rejecting of something with a single button press... and makes it more consistent across the UI as all selections are now done with both buttons. This "Approve/Reject" stuff is shown when verifying addresses and transaction details before sending etc.
3559  Other / Meta / Re: The inclusion of large, unnecessary images in threads. Opinions? on: November 20, 2019, 06:12:12 AM
It isn't so much the original posting of such images that make me most annoyed... it's the ignorant users who blindly click "quote" on the OP and then start typing! Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Angry Angry

So, then you end up re-scrolling through the entire OP... AGAIN... to (generally) see some 1 liner shitpost attached to the end! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...  Angry Angry

Personally, I think they need to implement a "how to quote properly" test to allow people to move from Newbie to Jr. Member rank... or actually sign up in the first place Tongue
3560  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: HELP !- Balance showing ZERO, new laptop, using legder and Electrum!!! !!HELP!!! on: November 20, 2019, 05:30:33 AM
Are you able to provide the answers to my earlier questions?

At present... what can you actually see in Electrum? Is it showing ANY transaction history at all? In your previous screenshot, it was only showing a blank history. Has Electrum finished syncing? (Green dot in bottom right corner):

Or is it still showing the blue "syncing" arrows?

Also, as mentioned... your previous link regarding the post about Ledger requiring you to change something is broken... all it does it link back to a BitcoinTalk "reply" page. So, a working link would be helpful too! Wink
