I think you really are vigilant you can really know if you are being targeted by a scammer or not. Well i have some idea because i also encountered some of them.  First thing i was  in mind is that you have to observed OP himself try to do a little stalk of what are he posting in his history if you are doubtful  then do not go. During stalking you should also try to see if he has negative trust if so then do not go.
