301  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Removing plastic from around heatsink for better cooling on: June 08, 2013, 12:15:44 AM
I'm thinking that we need someone to conduct a Fluid and Thermo Dynamics course here. Undecided

LOL remove the plastic...
It's just like water only it flows upwards.....

Like this........ a new rig just finished

Maybe I should add some plastic to actually DIRECT the fans over the heatinks
302  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING - ASICs are here! on: June 07, 2013, 11:59:18 PM
I am sure there will be better offers but just for your consideration...
https://cryoniks.com/#!/page/shipping-policy/

We can dream Smiley

The person behind that business supposedly ran a fraudulent Kickstarter campaign. Whether it's true or not, I don't know.

ASICMINER is working on an updated line using more advanced feature processes. At least one other effort is making progress with ~60nm chips also.

Yep there is a 'strong link' which he denies.......

just take a look at the Kickstarter thread..... wow does this guy get around...... claims   'he was just under contract'  and working with the companies that went on to scam hundreds of thousands....
303  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ***IMPORTANT: USE SAFE WIRING FOR MINING RIGS!*** on: June 07, 2013, 10:28:23 PM
POP off that PSU cover and re-wire the cable in SEVERAL 15-30A cables.

Remember ohm's law resistors in parallel....

The holes in the PCB's are big enough, just cable tie the cable BEFORE soldering so you don't rip the pads.

Most PVC cables are rates at 90 Deg. c , problem is.. they start giving off toxic chemicals at about 60.

Lead is used in a BIG way when they manufacture PVC cable.....,
its also used in the copper wire... so wash your hands after handling PVC cable.
304  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Open Source FPGA Bitcoin Miner (Last Update: April 14th, 2013) on: June 07, 2013, 08:15:22 AM
I've been mining with some 7K325T-1 parts running the KC705 code clocked at 300MHz for a couple of weeks now.  I notice that the hash rate starts to drop off after a day and a half and I have to restart the miners to get it to come back up.  Has anyone else seen this?

you really need to slap some BIG heat sinks and BIG blowers on there.

Had a similar issue with the Xilinx development board, even with a blower, lifted off the Mickey mouse heat-sink.. dropped on one twice as tall and now it sits at about 53 deg.c
but it is CRITICAL you cool the SM PSU modules as well,  I notices as they get hot... they drift UPWARDS!!! taking the core-voltage out of spec and causing further serious heating of the FPGA (not to mention its possible destruction.....)

Which is why I had to throw in a 'system monitor" for both voltage and core temp...... then I had to split out the  CLK for the communication & the logic separately and gate the SHA256 logic to the  sys monitor..... (you cannot just gate the CLK, because it controls the FPGA internal function .. including the sys monitor...)

Then I dropped some mini heat-sinks (for ram chips) on-top of the inductors for the SM PSU and the thing is stable even at 40 deg c ambient!!!

Worst. Setup. Ever. Its like offering to instruct someone how to cut off their own penis.

With a blunt knife.....

Take a product likely to catch on fire... put it in a highly inflammable petroleum product, finally stack it on a cotton carpet with a real wood floor underneath.....

why are you troling Huh
just so you know i dont have carpets in my comp room and its fake wood ontop of concrete

It is not a troll idiot boy... some people just don't know the risk......
http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/article/1212060/fire-breaks-out-south-horizons-one-injured

These are also 'fake' wooden floors over concrete, not to mention the smoke is what kills, 1 PVC crate in a small area is already enough to kill a family....
306  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: USB 300MH/S ASICMiner Value Question on: June 06, 2013, 11:04:16 PM

Has anyone actually tried that code on the http://www.em.avnet.com/en-us/design/drc/Pages/Xilinx-Spartan-6-FPGA-LX9-MicroBoard.aspx ? It would be interesting to know if it works. But DON'T go buying one for mining. Pathetic 5 MHash/second is mining dust. Just worthless.

[Edit] (Answering myself) No it won't work as it uses RS232 port comms. Someone would have to add the xilinx usb code from fpgaminer's github.

there are a few pins spare....... Just tag on a serial port... 5 minute job....
307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is it safe to order a BFL Miner now? on: June 06, 2013, 10:22:05 PM
Ok, I saw this article.

I have a list of questions, here they are:

  • 1. It says they are shipping now, and I want to get my hand on one.  If I order on Monday next week, about when will my order arrive?
  • 2. What will the difficulty be?
In a year, what will the difficulty be about?
  • 3. Will it be profitable? And for how long?
I used this calculator and with a difficulty of 20000000.0 and the rate at 100.00/BTC. It seems profitable, (My definition of 'profitable' is about 400.00 a month), how long will it remain like this?

I am in a rush now, so I will add more in an hour.
Be right Back!

The difficulty is ALREADY 15,000,000 think more 200,000,000 and you may be a bit closer........

Currently it is changing UPWARD at about 30-40% a MONTH!!!!!
308  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Water cooling? on: June 05, 2013, 10:59:21 PM
I'd REALLY like to do one with liquid Gallium.... with a graphite assembly cooling plate..

Mercury would be too much of a problem if you had a leak.......

Also I believe you watercool with Distilled Water. Leaks are bad yes but Distilled water inst a conductor until it becomes dirty?

Absolutely 100% PURE water with ZERO contaminants and NO gasses is actually an insulator.(good luck on getting it outside of a specially constructed laboratory)

But no... that does not include distilled water... (actually you would be frightened at the amount of shite in "distilled water" non-laboratory grade)

You use distilled water to reduce galvanic corrosion & oxides forming in the tubes, but good luck on it staying 'distilled'.

A minute layer of oxide reduces heat transfer efficiency. (see furry kettle)

Quote
You should stick to a similar metal across all blocks in the system or you run a risk of severe corrosion as aluminum and copper react badly

It is called galvanic corrosion and occurs frequently in shitty kits that mix metals (or cheap china made 'copper'), a single dissimilar metal is enough to kick it off...
311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-QT for mac LOTS of CPU on: June 04, 2013, 06:28:02 AM
CPU overheats..... threads cut back.... increasing fan speed reduces CPU temperature... threads expand to use available CPU.

Nubie conclusion....

bitcoind uses fan speed to validate block chain....

Reality...

cool CPU's can go faster.

Stupidity is like Nuclear waste... you don't want to get any on you or near you....

312  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cooperative unmixing for anti-money-laundering on: June 04, 2013, 06:13:45 AM
Isn't Bitcoin designed for anonymity? Why would you want to undermine that?

No it is not......
Transactions are traceable.....

Including  a "stupidity" tag.

315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: How many of you did actually read Satoshi's paper? on: May 31, 2013, 08:35:03 AM
It is actually quite interesting on a number of levels.

Normally such a paper would be frowned upon, because most of the citations are at least 10 years out of date and as for going back to 1957 for reference material... very dodgy..... esp. as there has been a lot of work in probability theory since then.

It is as if the citations were 'thrown' in as an afterthought with an underlying lack of research.
316  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Grounding when building a Custom Rig on: May 30, 2013, 10:39:46 PM
Why would you want too?
The main reason for grounding is electrical safety, I.E to provide an integrated environment, where electrical goods can operate within a safety cage.

Then the US goes and does something stupid like have 2 pin plugs!!!! (which are reversible....)... hay let's not even put the Live feed through a fuse safely..... (if the fuse is on the neutral line and it blows... then the equipment is STILL tied LIVE!!!)

First, decide WHY you want to do it... then get back to us.
317  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: USB 300MH/S ASICMiner Value Question on: May 30, 2013, 10:17:44 PM
so when is someone going to post the howto make these miners..

http://www.em.avnet.com/en-us/design/drc/Pages/Xilinx-Spartan-6-FPGA-LX9-MicroBoard.aspx

looks to be the same..

I'm working on blog post, for something about the same cost @200MH/s, but my shipment of boards is stuck..........
318  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Which hardware have i to buy to start mining? on: May 30, 2013, 10:13:13 PM
I don't have a desktop computer, just a laptop.
I'm searching the web for some USB FPGA cards, like Cairnsmore, Ztex, Terasic and so on that i would like to use with my BitMinter account.
None of these cards could be a good investment for me?
Theirs cost is under USD 1,000.

No they would be a VERY BAD investment for you.

go here:
http://tpbitcalc.appspot.com

Type in the details, BUT remember that the difficulty is generally changing about 9-13% UP each month....

It would take AT LEAST a year to regain your investment(if you ever do).
Far better you take that $1,000 buy bitcoins and sell with a 10% change, that way you make 10% in a week or so........
Wait for it to fall 10% re-buy.... then sell with a 10% gain..... (5-8% is currently the swing on bitcoins in a DAY...)

If you are good then you could make 100% of your money in a few months, just because the cash is burning a hole in your pocket no need to do something stupid......

319  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is this real? on: May 30, 2013, 01:33:35 PM
It is tom selling his crap.

Sad state of affairs considering I just picked up >2GH for $300USD........
320  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Open Source FPGA Bitcoin Miner (Last Update: April 14th, 2013) on: May 28, 2013, 10:16:55 PM
Check the version number on the FPGA.
you can do it by reading the chip ID.

I have found a MASSIVE difference in power/heat & speed using the SAME part numbers and specs and bitfiles, but on reading the internal chip details the FPGA's have different revision numbers.......

Just wondering if Xilinx lets very high grade parts thru as lower grade when they are running short.....
