I'm sure 16nm will soon be a better buy as 12nm becomes the next standard. Would be interested to know if it would be better to try 12nm.
"12nm" is not a new process, it's a process improvement of "16nm" that is run on the same fab lines. The rename is more about marketing than any significant change to the feature size. It's also NOT going to free up any fab space or capacity on the current "16nm" lines. Going to get even worse in the next generation - what Intel and Samsung (and IBM) are calling "10nm" and shipping TODAY is almost identical to the announced specs for what TSMC and GF are calling "7nm". Then the generation after that - IF THERE IS ONE - may not be a silicon generation, given Intel comments about "10nm is the end of the road for pure silicon" and IBM using a mixed silicon/germanium wafer in their work on 7nm. now I'm trying to remember if that was the pixel size with the lithograph, or the size of the transistor they can make?.. makes no difference really with the transistor, they still produce heat when they switch states.. |

And hell, what if you have no way of providing the requested "Passport," "Photo ID" or "Licence"?

Well now, thats a small leap there.. if they are real, would like to see sidey cringe at em.. I cannot find any more info on them other then the same regurgitating spiel over "news" sites. nothing saying what fabrication size they are, no pictures of the chips, no docs of any kind.. for all we know they are 110nm fabs with BGA layout, sidehacks favourite trash. If these are real, I wonder if we could get a sample of say 10 to let ol'sidey to snap/crackle/pop/smoke/glow/plain ol' abuse.. if not, anyone else doing QNF type packaging? or MLF? or even DIP? everyone is going BGA and sidehack hates that type with a passion. |

Because of this, 85% of the forums/internet now have "please upgrade your account for 3rd party hosting" image.
to bad if they were images from 15 years ago, that person may not be alive to "upgrade your account"
which really help a lot when you need images to show what screw/bolt/wire you need to budge
upload the image to here, or use imgur... till they sell out like photobucket.. I don't think Sarah and Alan (both owners of imgur) will drop their baby, but money dose change minds..

You're frustrated? Try being the guy that works 70-hour weeks in a 95-degree shop (for what amounts to well under minimum wage) designing and building stuff for people who whine on the internet. Last week I got a full-time helper for manufacturing for the first time ever and I've been building miners for two years now. Only got a helper because my mom lost her job so we're helping each other out.
You want something, go make it. Can't make it? Don't complain. I got more skin in the small-miners game than anyone else in the world has had since 2014 and I'm working as hard as I can to fill that gap. I'll get it when I get it.

What's happening with the BF16 pods? The BF16 stuff is the only thing I'm interested in because it'll be obsolete fast enough. I can't see sinking money into more BM1384 stuff. I've got a 2Pac, it works, but it doesn't break even. Turning the speed up or buying more isn't going to make it more profitable because the power consumption will just rise too.

Because silver is the bare aluminum, it's cheaper to make them slightly bigger than go through a painting step. Actually anodizing would probably be better since it's thinner. I built this power supply about 40 years ago, it mostly ran hot until I painted the heat sinks black. Nothing else I built 40 years ago is still running.
Anyway it's too bad there isn't a BM1387 stickminer, or something in the < 100 watt range.
I know this is out of context to the original subject.. if you did a finger test to see if the heatsink is colder to say its running cooler, you have done it wrong. paining a heatsink puts a layer of insulation on the thermal conductive material. you are not "Black bodying" the heatsink. the hotter the heatsink, the better it is conduction the heat away from the source. you need convection of the heat to the air, not radiate it, its not in vacuum. now if you google black body radiator, there is plenty of people talking about black painting heatsinks for radiating heat.. |

HEY!! I have these hubs I find they don't like to support the Compac 2 chip, any tips?
I am thinking of just getting a usb extentsion cord, ripping it open and cutting into the power wires though.
you can use the extension splice technique, or you can pop em open them up and add heavier gauge wire across the positive and negative tracks to support the extra load. what I did with mine is have the wires come out and attach the 5V wires off a HDD Molex connector to them. it wasn't a clean setup, but doable. |

Nice bit of work there!
You're making me want to fire up the old avalon and compacs again.. I attempted to use 30cm cabling to reorganise the compacs onto a singe large heatsink, and I gave up when they all stopped talking to the system (I blame the cheap cables, they are cheap)
