Do you gamble because you don't have sufficient money?

I was in argument with someone. His view is that people who gamble are those that what they have is not sufficient for them and so they try to make more money from gambling.

That is a big fat lie. Human want are insatiable meaning that people don't get satisfied with what they have and will strive to get more. Even Elun Musk has never given up on hustling why would anyone think of given up because they have gotten what they want. Anyone who gamble even if he has enough money does that simply because he wants to try luck. If it plays then they become more richer but if it didn't, they also lose so there is no big deal.

His explanation is wrong, the percentage of the rich gambling is not small compeard to the middle class. All are just mixed up which you wouldn't know the percentage of both. But I believe both the poor and the rich gamble. there is no segregation. gambling is not limited to some set of people but to all individuals regardless of class.

To me sometimes I do notice that the rich gamble more than the average people and the numbers of the rich that gamble is more than the numbers that does not gamble to me that is just what I feel in some countries because rich people gamble a lot because they are the one that have the money to gamble multiple times even when they are experiencing a lot of lost they still gamble but many people think that the rich doesn't gamble that much because they already have money that is not how it really work, because everyone that is rich or lose one to make more money and add more profit to themselves and add more money to what they are already making so I just feel like they still gamble no matter what and the gamble in a condition that you may not even believe sometimes rich are very addicted in gambling that is one thing I observe so that makes them can go more and more.

I think this is true because rich people will end up having more disposable income
if a person has more basic needs to fullfill like food and shelter it's a really small percentage that will end up giving in to gambling
most will try to get their basic needs sorted out first.

He made reference to some rich people, who don't gamble because they have sufficient money to even gift to charity but that those rich who still gamble are only addicted to it not just because of the money. So my question is, is the percentage of the rich gambling lower than the middle and lower class?

It depends how you look at it really and there is a pretty huge spectrum to cover. Those who have little money will either be a problem gambler spending all their spare funds or someone that is just doing it for a bit of social fun, not expecting a big win realistically - just hopeful. The same goes for the rich, who can get caught up in the same psychological and addictive behaviors, they just have a much longer trajectory until they fail. Sometimes it doesn't even take long for the rich to become poor as they are liable to just drop down bigger number bets than others. Gambling when you have little money is going to make you even more depressed when it inevitably fails.

Some people gamble for fun and some for money be it a rich or poor man. It is true that most gamblers don't gamble because they want to have fun and entertain themselves with it, but they gamble because they believe that it is possible for them to make profit from it. These set of gamblers will become addicted and might loss all they have to gambling if they don't quit early, either rich or poor.

Gamblers that use gambling for pressure are few and these are the set of gamblers that are enjoying gambling because they don't chase their losses and they always know when to stop the game. This is why it is not because of insufficient funds that is making a poor man to gamble. Your are poor those not mean that you are not happy and cannot have fun.
