Just a thought - if we are going to be running bitcoin nodes and we did get an affiliates program going, perhaps we can allocate some of this dev fund from affiliates to retain technical input from a bitcoin core dev, say $10k/year?

Sounds like a great idea to me.  It could be used to fund/resource testnet.

I know it is very early days yet but any idea when we will see the first glimpse of a high level roadmap?  Are we talking days, weeks or months?

Well, that got me thinking. 10%-20% going to a dev fund?  I'll take a look at which ones pay for referrals and the devs can think about signing up and putting various links on the website.

2,000 instances * $10/instance * 12 months * 20% = $48k  

I am fine with affiliate links... when I have them ready we can start using them in tutorials or on the forum,
just never spam people, only use it when it makes sense to offer the service.

(Using affiliate links about servers in a tutorial that explains setup of spreadcoin nodes makes sense.)

I will research this over the next few weeks and start official affiliate partnerships with allkinds of service providers (in Europe and US)
I can then make monthly reports about the devfund.

This sounds like a good first step to start a devfund by having a source of income thru affiliate partnerships.

Just one small observation if I may.  I'm sure many people spotted it from outside the community but nobody within the DRK community voiced concerns about this at the time.

I think it is important that if we raise donations for somebody to do technical/code/security reviews then MUST make sure that we don't donate to them in Spreadcoins.  BTC or FIAT should be the only options.

I have total trust in Kristov's integrity and acknowledge that he devoted a lot of time for not very much recompense to his Darkcoin review but the fact he was receiving donations in DRK left him open to challenges on his impartiality.  Credit where credit is due, he picked enough holes in Darkcoin at the time that this was never seen as an issue

So impartiality aside,... we DO want people to look at SPR as a valuable means of exchange.  
(even from our reviewers, and the idea is, that if a reviewer finds a bug in SPR this will not diminish the value, but rather increase it. Bugs can be fixed.)

I am totally biased for sure: ATM as main dev I DO prefer SPR over BTC or fiat...  
(any BTC or Fiat donation will just be converted to SPR anyway... so why not skip this step)

i have also slowly but surely increased my spr holdings.. especially at the current level.

on a side note, i think its time to debate on upgrading our sources to core.. the question is should we base it on bitcoin core, litecoin core or darkcoin core, that is the question... i will start the process when we have figured out which path to walk...

My gut feeling (as a non developer) is that Bitcoin core is the only way to go for now.

If you didn't mind having a the QT open I assume its as easy as just creating the conf file and running the QT!  Not sure about running the daemon under windows, have never tried with any coin before.
