Wait a fork is incoming for SIA blockchain too? Please someone explain to me what kind of fork we are speaking about and what the consequences for holders of SIA will be? Do I have to do anything? I still got my SIA on Bittrex but want to transfer them to a paper wallet soon, is this advisable to do before the fork? Thanks in advance.

Attention!!! Appeal to all newcomers! Do not sell SC (Sia)! This is just a correction!
Sia has 91% developer rating on coingecko!!!  In front of SC only: Bitcoin – 98.15%, ETH – 93.66%,  All the others are much lower !!! The flight passes normally. Everything is within the norm. Do not panic and keep SC and better buy more!

And who is panicking? We believe in this coin and in the developers. I am confident that this project will be one of the most successful. Beginners should trust more projects like this

I wrote this for those who know little about the trade.

coingecko is meaningless for anyone with a brain.

coingecko is meaningless for anyone with a brain.
Coingeko is measuring commits, issues and other activity on Github. So for everyone (with a bit of brain) it is the one and only place where people can see that devs are at least doing something professor. Not like other coins where devs put a roadmap on the blog made in 3 minutes with free infographics maker, then all dudes jump into coin over hyped then devs dump on them hard and abandon the project.

this is not the place to get your infos btw, wake up. You will miss many great coins and follow tons of shitcoins. The criterias used by that website are useless.

I have 5 k sia is the enough to share my hdd?

The minimal collateral required to set up a host is 2000 Sia, so you'll have enough for experimenting with hosting. However, you will need much more if you plan to host more than a few GB. But just remember all that collateral will be returned to you if you keep a good uptime (97% or more) and you keep the renter's files during all the contract (3 months by default).

After fork, when ASIC come into circulation, the price of SC will skyrocket? do you think, or will reverse the principle, because there will be a lot of coins?

No, there will be the same amount of coins generated per day after ASICs are released. In PoW coins the difficulty adjusts with the hashrate on the network, so the block time, and the reward of mined coins, remains stable. The hardfork of tomorrow precisely introduces a new algorithm for the difficulty adjustment that can cope with dramatic changes in hashrate and still keep the block time in 10 minutes.

In general all the coins that introduced ASICs in the past experimented an increase in the coin value. But of course that can't assure Sia will see the same phenomenon. BTW, ASICs will not be delivered until April-June of next year.

No consequences for Sia users. If you are using the client, just be sure you are using the version 1.3.0. Bittrex is already prepared, so they will keep working normally after the fork. For more info check: https://blog.sia.tech/reminder-upcoming-sia-hardfork-e0ffcde9ebcc

Sia is an actively developed decentralized storage platform. Users all over the world contribute disk storage from their
computers to form a decentralized network.

The computer provides disk storage to form a distributed network. How wonderful it would be to think that your data is stored in every corner of the world. Cool

Even something like this:https://github.com/NebulousLabs/Sia/pull/2506 ?
It's a huge update to increase network scale ability (i hope, devs please explain). If it will work it can be a matter of time with adoption and well compete with players out there.

My concern with SIA is that for a widespread adoption it would need a blockchain that is more "light" dont you guys think? I mean it takes literally ages to sync (I'm still on 25% and have it running for several !weeks!, of course not all day long, but several hours a day). With this kind of a heavy blockchain people wont be very pleased to participate in the SIA network dont you think? Cant there be a more convenient solution somehow?

With every new update, the initial sync time is being reduced. Right now, if your computer is using SSD (solid state disks) instead of spinning mechanical disks, the initial sync can be done under 8 hours.

Alternatively, you can download manually the blockchain (AKA bootstrapping) and be synced in just a couple of hours: https://siawiki.tech/daemon/bootstrapping_the_blockchain

Lite clients and SPV are on the roadmap of the core developers. And also independent developers are working on that.

Ultimately, take in mind that the endgame idea is that storage providers will use the Sia storage layer, so final users will instead download their software and pay the storage in FIAT, making the providers all the Sia conversion and keeping the blockchain in their servers. Final users won't even need to know what Sia or a blockchain is, and still benefit from cheap and decentralized storage

Where can a find a stratum server for solo mining this algorithm Huh

Currently the mining network of Sia is about 250-300TH/s. Unless you are the owner of a huge GPU farm, your chances of finding a block solo-mining are minimal.

There are 5 big mining pools in Sia, each one with different payout schemes, fees and other variables. Take a look at them: https://siastats.info/pools_list.html. For instance, both Siamining, Luxor and F2pool are PPS, what means you'll get payouts even if the pools does not find blocks. Luxor has a very low fee of 0.3% that is paid as a donation to Sia developers.

Where can a find a stratum server for solo mining this algorithm Huh
Sia now can mine with ASIC, so I dont think that solo mining is profitable at the moment anymore.

ASICs (Obelisk SC1) are not yet released. They are expected to ship on June of next year or earlier if the manufacturing is accomplished sooner. But there is still time for GPU mining.

I do have a large GPU farm, all of my miners are behind a stratum proxy but i would prefer to solo mine vs pool mine as it's more profitable. I also have several Obelisk SC1's on order from the first week.

Is there a stratum server available for this coin/algo Huh I would be shocked if there was not considering the size of this project. Siacoin may be the only 100 million + market cap coin without a publicly available stratum server if true. Very sad Roll Eyes

I invested a little in the ico process. I still have not sold it. I do not intend to sell it for a few more years. this project has gained and will continue to earn. Smiley

They didn't have an ICO, get your facts straight.
