No concern at all, he knew what he was doing and in the end the same thing that has fallen many men, fell him, arrogance and greed.  He thought we could be beyond the laws in some libertarian fantasy.  In reality, there are states, laws, policy, instinct and common sense.  He is no hero or martyr.  Just another ego that got out of control.

-D
This reminds me of Irwin Schiff who has been held 10 years for 'evading tax' and writing a book about it.   He at no point attempted to deceive or misled IRS just argue his case (ie. tax was not applicable) for which he received a similar harsh sentence as an example.   Clearly he is not the master criminal Ulbricht could be cast as but they are both naive in objecting or thinking they have a choice to wilfully object, (arrogant not to move abroad as many would)and the states reaction seems similar in that.
He currently is 87 and is dying from terminal lung cancer yet cannot let be free for fear of being too soft on any threat to the superstate system.   I doubt Ulbricht gets any justice while he is also seen as any threat, any laws can be arranged if so desired to make progress unlikely.  If they cant even let out a book author after ten years who is going to die very soon, I dont see them extending any mercy elsewhere it would be seen as weakness within their ranks or something

I'm by no means a stanch Libertarian or an advocate of Schiff's teachings, but in was in the very late 70's when I found myself reading Irwin Schiff's The Biggest Con: How the Government Is Fleecing You, first time introducing me to alternative thinking, later with 1984, till that came and passed sans any apparent catastrophes, at least not on the surface that is.

You should trust your government and do everything they tell you to do. In your country, you are blessed by a system where God fearin christian souls do all the votin. They make up all tha laws that heathen sinners such as yourself need to keep ya pointed toward heaven. Just look as what's become of them sinner filled states. Homos gettin married and just able to walk down the street holding hands in full daylight. You oughta count yer blessings instead of readin the Devils writin.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

In short: the corrupt federal agent Carl Force IV aka "Nob" has been sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in bitcoin during the investigation and for selling information about the US government's investigation to criminals.

Another corrupt federal agent Shaun Bridges, who was charged with money laundering and obstruction of justice, and later plead guilty to stealing more than $800,000 in bitcoin has sentencing hearing in December.

This is what justice is? Ulbricht gets sentenced to life for being innovative and an entrepreneur. He could also have committed some crimes, but those wouldn't be enough to jail him for life. as for Carl Force, he gets to have only 78 months from stealing, extortion, money laundering and obstruction of justice.

1) people doing consensual trading with no complaints from any party involved is not illegal
2) even if something illegal were taking place, providing a "platform" for said activity would not be illegal.  Otherwise, it's all technologists ever off to the chopping block.  Windows, Mac, IP, copper wires, qwerty design..   all guilty under your "platform" law.

That's a sordid tale. However there comes a time when principle is worth toning down for the sake of a quieter life.

By 1980, he had been urging his father “to cease what he saw as futile resistance,” the monthly journal The American Conservative reported in October 2009.

“He admits today that he finds Irwin’s intellectual case compelling,” the journal added, “but is completely disinclined to imitate his father’s radical methods or his idealism.”

It quoted him as saying: “The problem with my father is that he’s not practical. He was always going to lose.”

I'll assume this is a rhetorical question, as the answer is quite obvious.

His intentions by creating SR (earning money with drug sales) has been pretty much proven. If the feds can prove, that Bill Gates had the intention to help druglords, criminials or pedophiles with his OS, than you are probably right, otherwise no. It is just like almost any "tool" that can turn into a weapon: It is the intention that counts.

I am not talking about these old fashioned drug laws in general, which btw should be updated/deleted. I am refering to the fact, that everybody should know their country laws and act accordingly. If "selling drugs" is illegal in your country and you still want to profit from that, this is not a problem of the law, but your very own decision to take the risk of getting arrested.

Everyone with a blue chip index fund wants to make money with drug sales, so yeah Bill Gates is in there too.  I'm not sure what your point is there.  Merck and Pfizer and RJ Reynolds et al. are surely a more negative on people's health than what small time SR dealers peddled but hey that's not really relevant.  Sure, know whatever some orcs might claim is your country/western laws, to the extent that it will help you avoid them.  And stay out of their way, I'm with you on that advice too.  But also, stop breeding the damn orcs how about that eh?  Their behavior is indefensible.

It quoted him as saying: “The problem with my father is that he’s not practical. He was always going to lose.”

That makes him an idealist not a master criminal or anyone who is danger to society.   He was treated like a political prisoner in a dictatorship

If anything Im more inclined to believe he was correct and this government can only enforce itself by threat and violence not by laws and standards of a democracy where any are free to peacefully protest

They are charged for different crimes and sentenced accordingly.

Yeah... "sentenced accordingly". It is obvious, isn't it? A Mexican drug lord, who is behind dozens of murders gets 20 or 30 years behind bars, and Ross Ullbricht, who didn't had any previous criminal record gets a life without parole. And the United States is going to have a mass murderer as its president after the 2016 elections (Hillary Clinton).

Yeah, but Hillary Cunton didn't get anyone high. Besides Murrica loves murders. They have a big parade for them on Veterans Day.

The United states government likes to make an example out of these smart tech savvy kids. Federal prosecutors were really harsh with Aaron Swartz too.
