Keep meaning to watch that dark web documentary, maybe this weekend I will check it out. Life in jail is a trip for any one, just being locked in a cell would suck.

I think the stronger message is that bitcoin was able to survive without all the darkweb transactions. And that's positive.

Should never have been about that or even close to relying on something so sinister. Like all criminals he should have retired way before but was a victim of his own hubris. I dont doubt the sentence is politically motivated and with extremes not required or just in comparison to any normal crime involving drugs or murder which unfortunately citizens do carry out with or without technology help.
I fear for a country that can target punishments by how its leaders view that person as a threat to their image. He should have the same access and balance to lawful procedure that any citizen even the powerful in office should be tested and tried under. I hope he does get an appeal and its fair but I presume we'll need to see a big political change for that to happen, thats his main hope that government itself is a victim of its own hubris

And that's positive. darkweb sustains Bitcoin as it is dark market +darkweb = +90% from Bitcoin. you will say that someone may use BTC for trading. I rather trade gold which is a regulated market and the earnings are much higher(losses the same) than shit Bitcoin ) Bitcoin is mainly use for illegal things as ponzi schemes, illegal forex, drugs, credit card frauds, fake IDs and so on.

Maybe not as much as they used to, now that bitcoin has recieved alot of attention. They've probably moved to bytecoin or something even more anonymous.

This is one thing we all now know.

Ross Ullbricht is sentenced to life in prison without parole. In my opinion, if Ross gets a chance to escape from the prison, he should do it. Even if he gets caught, it will make no difference to his prison term. Rapist, murderers will be free from prison but he has to spend the rest of his life in prison

Yeah was it 15 or 25-life? No way he got life without parole that is just insanity! I mean he had a damn website he wasn't out molesting and killing people.
Federal crimes no longer have parole. Congress did away with parole in the late 80's. A sentence in federal court of life means you are going to die in prison. wow that just sucks It does suck but it was designed to give convicted felons no hope and in doing so curb illegal behavior. The fact that the elimination of parole has had zero success in curbing the crime rate is beside the point.

Was watching a story on vice about gangs in Trinidad and the gang guys get 20 years right off the bat for being gangsters,so they rather die than get caught. So its made the issue more dire, sometimes tougher laws make things very black and white for the crinimal like a 3 strike system.

Do you think victimless crimes should still land people in jail? Why?

The Silk Road Ulbricht dreamed of is dead, waaaaaaaaaaay dead. To be honest, chances are it is already there, it's just tucked away for right now and no-one has slipped up and given any information away. We'll probably see something like silk road happen in the next few months, for right now we just have to wait and see.

Wow I think that is a pretty high sentence for someone that just made a website on the deepweb. I think he is not the one that only had the power over the account...
