Also, this one:

CCEDK and BIT-X release first true crypto debit card.

Quote
In addition to strictly storing the funds as Bitcoin or USD, the user will have the option to store their money as a BitShares BitAsset. Also referred to as SmartCoins, they would be pegged to the value of the dollar or another major currency.

"A new generation of 2.0 coins is being used to address the volatility issue. BitShares’ SmartCoins will be available as funding options for the NanoCard in the coming months, meaning that customer balances can be safely stored as crypto coins pegged to USD, EUR, CNY or even gold and silver, and converted only at the time of use," explained CEO Ronnie Boesing.

This is a fundamentally lacking feature in many card programs available to Bitcoiners, although Bitreserve has come along way to deal with the problem of volatility. The new card will be called the NanoCard and will be broadly available to customers of the exchange beginning today.

Looks a little bit like this one, strangely:

Any plans to add the Canadian dollar?

Looks like BunkerDEX might be heading in that direction first:

Quote
The Canadian Rewards Debit

Thanks to the BitShares’ high capacity network, the BunkerDEX will enable anyone with a SmartPhone to cash their cheques, pay bills online, and send money to their friends and family in any SmartCoin they choose.

“Historically, Canadians have been the earliest adopters of new electronic payment technologies.” Jonathan recalls, “and we will appeal to them with a system that is convenient, easy to use, and secure - thanks to the decentralization of the BitShares network. Also, we have much lower overhead costs than a brick-and-mortar bank, so we will have much lower fees.”

DSN will provide secure gateway transactions that will enable Canadians to easily transact their everyday banking and purchases in Canada and around the world. BitShares is decentralized, so every account holder has sole access to their funds. Because of this, account holders can enjoy the convenience of everyday banking transactions without the risk of bank failure. Add this to the first of its kind referral program that will be built into BitShares 2.0, and marketing to Canadians will be a no brainer.

Yes!  Like I posted last month, this opportunity is open to all coins, not just Bitcoin and BitShares:

Oh, and if it wasn't obvious, this is great news for all you other coins.

Our multi-currency Nanocard also lets you spend your coins just like a debit card.

So now there's really no need to go around trying to get merchants to accept your coin.

Just get these guys to accept it!

This levels the playing field with Bitcoin's network effect just a little bit.

There.  Another peace offering for you.  Smiley

Huge article in Forbes Magazine:

Is The NanoCard Bitcoin's 'Killer' App & Can It Transform The Global Remittance Market?

With it Bitcoin and other crypto get a Just-in-Time off-ramp at any merchant that accepts debit cards.

Key acceptance problem solved for all major crypto-currencies!

Nice article.  People are finally starting to see crypto has more uses then just an exchange of value.

Here's the recording and transcript from Friday's global press conference with Bytemaster:

July 17, 2015 Mumble Transcript

Here's a brief sample:

[00:17:29] fuzzy: What does BitShares have to offer people, like the people in Greece, who have to worry about bank bail-ins?

[00:18:03] bytemaster: The foundation of all cryptocurrencies is a token that is not simultaneously someone’s else’s liability. You don’t have to worry about a bail-in. the token is what it is, it’s accepted by the market, so all you have to worry about is the market volatility. when the price goes down that’s like a bail-in, you’re getting a haircut. but when the price goes up you are making money. So what BitShares offers is the ability to speculate and gain leverage and gain the ability and that’s what all cryptocurrency projects do. They remove the need to trust someone and they make it so that arbitrary changes to the rules are not a norm. The other thing to do is they offer you greater freedom. You can transfer anywhere at anytime. You control your money entirely with your own brain-key and if you like you can go anywhere in the world. That’s something none of these financial institutions are doing. BitShares isn’t going to wake up one day and find out that you can only move 50 BitShares per day, that’s just not going to happen. Whereas the people in Greece are finding out that they can only access a small amount of their own money every single day. So that’s what it offers the users. The banks themselves are very interested in what blockchain technology can do to lower their cost. They want to see systems that have integrity, that are audit proof and can leverage the cryptographic security and permissions system that blockchains represent. So we’re seeing that BitShares and the technology behind Graphene is leading the way in features that banks actually need and want. And that’s why I said earlier a major bank is interested in working with us.

[00:19:56] fuzzy: I’m assuming that this would be a type of system that would be slightly offered if a bank would adopt it, they would want their own chain. is that assumption correct?

[00:20:10] bytemaster: Banks want all kinds of different things. Many things are internal, many things are public. But what I have heard from several Banks is that they don’t want Bitcoin, they don’t want any other cryptocurrency that is extremely volatile. They can’t deal with that kind of currency. That leaves us and a Ripple as being the options that the banks are looking at or some kind of custom solution. I suppose something like NXT with their asset exchange and user issued tokens is also viable. Maybe Ethereum someday, but banks also have the requirement of high transaction throughput. They can’t use a system that isn’t able to handle all of the internal transfers or all of the credit card transfers that goes on. They need something that’s ready today. Generally speaking I would say that BitShares and Graphene particularly are leading the way in the technologies that the big financial institutions actually want and is the closest public project to meeting the requirements.

[00:21:29] fuzzy: So this would protect users mostly from things like bail-ins. do you think that the old statement that the decentralized exchange at a protocol level almost ensures fair trades as opposed to the market manipulation by high frequency trading (HFT) and naked shorting. Do those still serve as strong benefits for those people especially?

[00:21:59] bytemaster: It’s an open order book, everyone can see exactly what the orders are and they can see when the trades go through and make sure that all orders are settled. You don’t have people trading with assets they don’t have which can happen on other exchanges. Of course if you’re trading IOU’s, well the issuer can create or may or may not have those IOU’s so you still have some trust there, but fundamentally the exchange does final settlement with every trade whereas other exchanges don’t do that. Which means it’s a lot hard to manipulate these markets because you have to actually acquire the asset first. You can’t sell an asset you don’t have to manipulate the market. but there are still going to be people who use bots that don’t place their orders in the order book, instead they place their orders when they see something they want to buy rather than having it sit there advertising to the world. So there’s going to be a mixture, you can do relatively high frequency trading once every couple of seconds on Graphene, so that’s faster than most people can keep up with, but that’s not really manipulation, that’s just people thinking they have an algorithm that understands the market when it’s really just a high tech version of gambling.

[00:24:02] bytemaster: In centralized Services whoever is closest could get the information faster that’s just the way the speed of light works. In our system the center point moves with every block. So it puts everyone on equal footing all around the world. If you’re the Witness you are closest by definition, but you’re not always the closest which undermines most trading strategies that depend upon consistently being the closest.

Actually, yes.  These prices are good to start accumulating BTS.  But be prepared to take a loss neverthless.
