One misconception football fans have about Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga is that "Bayern has it easy". They do not. Bayern Munich works twice as hard to always win the league. This match is over and Dortmund won with a score of 2-1 you won one of those bets, not bad. Actually Dortmund has many opportunities when they have 20 shots unfortunately the shot was inaccurate and only 7 on target, but yeah their main target is 3 points so the total goal does not have too much impact also Dortmund managed to take place in the top 4 even though it was only a while unless Freiburg and Leverkusen drew tomorrow then Dortmund will be safe there.

It's not that Dortmund didn't play well, it's that St. Pauli's defence was so good that they always tried to use the option of planning for chances outside the box or forcing penetration on both sides which didn't work out very well in the end.

But the 3 points are still theirs because even though St. Pauli surprised with their goal back but in the end Dortmund can still keep the 3 points they have in this match.

At some point the number of goals may matter but that will be if there's a thigh to be broken which if they have been wining a lot they may be able to maintain good point difference with which they will still be at advantage in situations as this.

True. In some matches, the team which dominated the match ended up with a lose. It is good if Dortmund could win the match although it was a narrow score. St. Pauli is surely a weak team but it doesn't mean they aren't possible to bring the difficulty to other teams. Sometimes they weak teams can be harder to be defeated because they played very defensively and used too many defenders in the lineup. I think this was happening in the match Dortmund vs St. Pauli.

Yeah, some players have just played for their national teams. Some Dortmund players may not have enough time for taking a rest. So, they can't play optimally, they have no good fitness. Why I wouldn’t hold Dortmund or say they didn’t actually play well I will cite that this is the first game after the international break and as such clubs like Dortmund would have been facing fatigue problem as it is mostly their players who usually get the national team call up than the bottom clubs. So the excuse should be that this players are likely not yet ready due to fatigue, this will also be the case for the other big clubs and as such we could see surprises in this game week.

But regardless of the international break I think Nurul Sahin and his boys needs to do better than this, Dortmund have not been easily conceding goals to lower clubs they shouldn’t but also losing to some teams that they should be winning.  They have dropped points at Weder Bremen which wasn’t a good and also have actually lost to the likes of Stuttgart and Union Berlin which if they are serious about winning the league they would have gotten maximum Points from this matches, so this tight win against St.Pauli isn’t too surprising to me

As expected, Dortmund won the match against FC St. Pauli. But honestly, I thought there would be more goals for them, at least 3 goals. But the important thing is they won. The match might seem easy at first look but the reality is that Borussia Dortmund have a lot going on with them right now that they will not easily win a team like St. Pauli that is know to be very stubborn at away. Borussia Dortmund is meeting Real Madrid in the Champions League this next week, that would have been a factor because their will not play their best just to prepare for the match. This is one factor that I felt would affect their play but their performance showed that they consider the league match very important, the reason they did not only win the match but also played exceptionally well. Although they won the match but if you think about it Dortmund was not good, like they did when playing at home the winning goal in the 83rd minute was clearly a difficulty they experienced with 7 shots on target and 9 shots off target, in my opinion Dortmund has not been able to rise but in this match St Pauli was also not good so St Pauli should have been able to take advantage of a good counterattack but failed to win this match. Probably because of fatigue factor. As you said, even dominant, Dortmund is look many wasted opportunities to create many goals, Dortmund seems to compete with a big team even faced with an underdog team, and they look difficult also to create 1st goal instead conceded after VAR cancel it. International break is always make the trouble for the team, many players are exhausted and several players out there is possibility of leaving injury. So I don't know how is going on, after this match, Dortmund take a flight to Madrid for Champions League match which I think will come back to home with bad results.

I tried to find research or articles about international break and its effects on teams' performance in the league but most of them are talking about broadcast and scheduling issues. I wonder if there's not enough incentive to go deeper such as talking about injury or other things. I'm pretty sure this phenomenon is widespread, not limited to Bundesliga or clubs like Dortmund, etc. I'm pretty sure even Bayern has freak results now and then albeit not directly related to the international break.

It will be a bad signing if players don't play at all, no question about it. But you can't blame anyone if both the clubs and players are trying their best to improve the player's fitness IMO.
