Dutch-Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku joins Bayer Leverkusen on five-year deal

Dutch-born winger of Ghanaian descent, Ernest Poku, has sealed a move to German top-tier side Bayer Leverkusen. Poku joins Leverkusen on a long-term contract from Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar, where he came through the youth ranks.

He has signed a deal which will keep him in Germany for the next five years, opting to play under former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Poku went through the AZ Youth Academy from 2019. He was also part of the team that won the UEFA Youth League in 2023.

The trickery forward was involved in 20 goals across all competitions for AZ during his time with the first team, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists, which includes three in European competitions.

Poku featured in his last game for AZ over the weekend in the 4-1 win over Groningen on the opening weekend of the Dutch league.

The will probably win the first game, too bad that Bayern plays at home. I would have liked to see them play against RB Leipzig away from home, but it is as it is. Any surprise, like any loss of points for Bayern, would be a good wake up call for the whole league. Otherwise it is too boring. If Leipzig immediately gets a a bummer, the league feels not exciting from the first day.

Loosing a first home game will be crazy way to start the season, at least for week 1 fixture, i have a confident bet to place only that the odd will be small for Bayern straight win. If Bayern should fail the worse result will be a draw but the chances of a full time draw is strictly bent on happening.

 Any wake up call from Leipzig is a big hit on the 10 odds given to them, Bayern wouldn't allow especially in the opening match.

Eric Ten Hag may not have proven so much in the preseason that he is the perfect man for the managerial role for next season, but since we can’t use preseason matches to equate to how managers will perform during the season, we just have to give him a chance to prove himself worthy of the position when the season begins. So I can’t agree to them reaching the semifinals of the champions league this season. They have to show each and every possible sign that they’re going to reach that stage without any sign for one to distrust them not to reach that stage of the competition. This can only happen when the new season begins, so I expect them to show that professionalism in the champions league when it begins. They can be champions in the Bundesliga but that doesn’t mean they can be the same in the champions league, the league of champions.
