I wouldn't say Leverkusen are doing well yet. The  team is not in a good position yet. I gave up hope that the team would fight for the  title at the beginning of the  season. But even then I expected to see leverkusen in the top 4 of the table. Qualifying for the champions league is also very difficult for leverkusen now. The team is currently in  sixth place in the points table. Even so , Leverkusen will probably try to qualify for the champions league until the end of the season. If they can maintain their performance for a few weeks and win consistently, they still have a small chance.

But let's see how they will perform next season, and I appreciate their effort. Only a few believed that Vincent Kompany would be successful at Bayern Munich. We can easily compare the Belgian and Álvaro Arbeloa when he took the Bayern Munich job. Now Kompany is widely celebrated globally.

What will be the future of Arbeloa if he leads Real Madrid to either the La Liga title or the UCL or both? I guess that he would be given a permanent deal. The deal to sign any top coach like Klopp might be cancelled if the above happens.     

For me, Kompany's work has been very clean, nothing compared to Arbeloa who, in my opinion, should leave Madrid now. Bayer Leverkusen won their game yesterday, but if you look at the last 5 games they played in the Bundesliga, they have only won 2, which includes yesterday’s game. I think this season will be a bit hard for Bayer Leverkusen to get to the Champions League again. Moreover, even if they make it, they will still not be able to do much. I know they made it to the round of 16 this season, but Arsenal will definitely knock them out. Leverkusen's quality and competitiveness dropped a lot after they lost Xabi Alonso and some star players but in this season they have tried a lot to compete and get in top four. Now, they are not too far from top four with 3 points less than Hoffeinhem and Stuttgart at the third and fourth positions but they are 1 point less than Leipzig too.

This means Leverkusen will have to compete with Leipzig, Stuttgart and Hoffeinhem for two remaining positions in top four as the first two positions already belong to Bayern Munich and Dortmund. With ten more matches, any club that play with better consistency will take these positions in top four and Leverkusen are still in a slim verge of a successful season with a position in top four and a failed season beyond top four.

While I agree that Xabi is the biggest loss they had, and could not find a proper coach to replace him, and the whole start of the season with Erik Ten Hag was a disgrace, it is also important to note that losing many players also contributed to this a lot as well.

They did not "made" money this season, because while they did make a lot of money by selling players, they wasted most of that by getting other players and unfortunately that did not worked great for them. They sold players like Wirtz, Frimpong, Adli and many more, and instead they got players like Tillman and Quansah and they made 230 million from sales but spent 200 million instead and somehow built a much worse squad compared to previous years.

Bring back Xabi Alonso cannot be the only way to take them back to the competition. There are also better managers that will do very well, more than what Xabi did during his time at the club.
