I have found a solution to soundproof.

Home Depot sells  hvac venting about one hundred bucks will do three or four units.

I will post photos

Awesome! Curious as well, if it works well I just might order some S7-lite's (if they create less noise/dB) to have at home.
The regular S7 is just too loud to have in an apartment.

You definitely need 2 floors between you and the miner.  Mine's in the basement...the back room of the basement and I can hear it all over my first floor, but not on the second floor.

I have my miner rack in the basement... 4 Antminer S2's and 2 Antminer S5's, plus a few Dell servers and whatnot, I do not hear them upstairs except through the intake HVAC ductwork on that leg of the system which is only the kitchen. ( I have the ductwork - 16" x 10" - wide open above the miners to recirculate the heat from the miners throughout the house, therefore it grabs some of the fan noise).

It all depends on the material used in your house. My house was built with quality materials from the late 50's.

I discovered the best sound proofing set-up ever devised about 10 months ago.  I get 0 decibels with this system.  I have all of my miners hosted at data centers.  The fees are less than my electrical costs, there is no heat build-up to deal with, and no matter how hard I try I can't hear a peep out of my S7s!  I also have full control just like I did when I ran my S5s in my garage.

https://i.imgur.com/375dHGh.jpg

EDIT:  Usually whenever I post things like this I hear a gasp, all heads spin towards me, and then silence.  It's like I'm an alien offering a hover car and everyone is thinking "how do I use a hover car on our existing road infrastructure...and he's an alien!"

I really think you should get an IP ready MIC set up by your miner(s) at the data center.  Then you can live-stream some of that noise once in a while.
Otherwise you're just missing out on that element of the entire experience.

Yea, nothing more fun than making the HVAC guy deaf while he's working on the furnace!

Does anybody know of any decent data center for miners in Southern California?

I have no clue where to look for a data center ( with the exception to a multi-level underground nuclear hardened facility out in Iowa ).... what questions to ask.... what to watch out for.... etc.

I would think that data centers would not like to have average joe schmos putting their equipment in their centers that have large corporations and what not hosted there.... just out of security sake.

great north data is really pretty good

Canada Based.  My next order from bitmaintech and or avalon will be going to his place

I tried to send 20 S5s to Great North Data back during the summer but they would not take anything less than 30KW per order.  I only had 12KW; I was so disappointed!

Carl,

I'm very sorry, but I've been talking to my business partners and they would like me to only sign contracts for at least 30kW. So I'm afraid we cannot take your machines. Sorry if I have wasted your time, this was only decided today. I could probably offer a slightly better rate if you were able to get to 30kW in demand.

Why do you need a furnace? You have miners for heat.   Grin

36 degrees F. outside last night with 2 windows open to allow fresh air in ( I have 5 farting dogs ... kinda need fresh air ).... with the miners running, it was a nice 79 degrees F. in the house.

Yea that's a good point, I have to see if I have a return duct in my basement so I can push that air through the house.

also, any word on a new batch??
I was told the rest of mine will go out at the end of the no comp window (I take that as ~NOV5)

make it NOV 4 (as it is 31 days in Oct); I presume that they are in 'testing' already.

When I stand behind the 42u rack with 12 s7's in it it feels like a furnace. Four 30 amp circuits, 3 s7's per circuit, datacenter only allows 21.6 amps to be used  for each circuit.

hmmm....  3s7's are only about 16 amps.

4 is less then 22amps

at 80% is 24 amps.. find another datacenter Smiley

at 208v 3 s7's are 18amps.
$1000 per rack all inclusive 2 miles from my house. I think I'll stay.
Only $750 after tax deduction.

mine are 220, hence the discrepancy.  how many 30 amp circuits will they allow you to use on one rack?

Yea that's a good point, I have to see if I have a return duct in my basement so I can push that air through the house.

I extended a return duct so that its over my mining rack. Heat rises so not only is the basement nice and warm ( warm hardwood floors ) but the warm air gets sucked up by the return duct.

Right now I just flip the furnace fan on and off depending on if the upstairs is warn or cold, but soon, I'll be getting a thermostat that has a RECIRCULATE function. That thermostat then will turn on the furnace fan for 5-20 minutes every hour to move some air, equalize the temperature in the rooms, and if you have a fresh air intake on the furnace, it'll inject some fresh air in the house ( plus operate whole house humidifier, the UV-C air sterilizer and electronic ~ozone~ air filter)... if heat was not called for by the thermostat within the last hour.

The more upper end thermostats ($100+) that you find at the big box stores usually have the recirculate feature... or you can look for a Braeburn 5000 thermostat on Amazon... usually around $65-$70 ... its a "commercial" grade thermostat, not really found in the retail market but its a nice thermostat that actually can be powered by the furnace itself... no mo batteries and has a lot of nifty automatic stuffz.... and no wifi that can be hacked.

Ok, for some reason I can't flash my miner.  I browse to the file, attempt to flash it, wait for it, the screen times out, then I refresh and get this error:

System Upgrade Failed

tar: invalid magic tar: short read

So something just ain't right with it.

I'm using the SD-S7-20151023-600M.tar file downloaded directly from bitmaintech's support site.  Anyone else having this issue?

Are you targeting the .tar or the image file inside? Just to be sure; you need to target the .tar file, still compressed. When i uncompressed the .tar is the only time i saw that error. If not redownload the .tar, it could be incomplete archive.

You could try to uncompress it just to see if its valid, though.

Weird, still not working, I dl'd it again, left it as the .tar.gz file and tried the upgrade.  Again, connection gets reset after about 10-15 seconds, I try to refresh and get the same error.

what connection? your computer/laptop to miner?
maybe leave it alone and do something with laptop:on a mac i would say repair permissions, but on windows? is there some kind of desktop or C drive repair program?
