If you're shipping from China you can definitely ship it cheaper, why is this not an option?

You can get the shipping down to reasonable cost/unit if you order at least 20 at a time. I thought of buying in bulk and selling at my website but changed my mind. Anticipated profit per unit was less than $10 at a reasonable selling price; not worth my time. When China holiday is over I may contact Bitmain to inquire about wholesale pricing.

A 30$ device doesn't exactly need 18$ worth of shipping for piece of mind, I think it's in the price range for cheap shipping. Yes if I was iTop I would use $5 shipping, (or whatever cheap shipping is) charge $6 and put the Dollar towards sending replacements for any that are lost or damaged in transport. Rich |

BTW I'll try and do custom firmware builds for this based off of mainline OpenWRT. I'm working with an OpenWRT developer and we currently have S1 custom firmware working and should have S3 soon, this device appears to be very similar.

I hope the R2 uses 802.11ac along with the bm1385 chip and someone is able to hack the firmware to mine on the pool of our choice as well as acting like a network extender instead of a router. I would pay $50 for that, although it would still probably only get 25GH/s.

The R1 should be usable as a network extender actually since it runs OpenWRT. |

I really don't need the network part with my nighthawk I love my network. I had a crazy amount of clients and upgraded and it's been perfect. It was kinda sad to switch from my old ddwrt.... i stuck with it for years. I really just want a lotto device and reliable controller for U series (and even other sticks if possible). So if they made just a lotto box without all the networking I would be happy. |

But i doubt the address is hardwired in, so we'll probably be able to flash/hack the firmware and do what WE want to do with it. I just don't think what WE want to do with is is what Bitmain wants to do with it. They are very good businessmen and i'm pretty sure if they do something like a new kind of product, its to make more money. |

Give it time only a few reviewers/resellers have it already. Most have not got the device even yet. Bitmain has never locked down firmware in past. So big plus there as far as a device like this. There will be mods no doubt. But we don't even know what regular setup does yet. Hard to plan a mod without knowing regular design . So give it time and it will come. |

DD-WRT is unlikely and IMO inferior to OpenWRT anyways. DD-WRT is mainly known for supporting broadcom based hardware which this device will not be based off of. |
