The issue is that his team was intentionally fouling at the end of the game while it was already a blowout so that Bam could get more shots. Looking closer at the stats, you can see how Bam’s game doesn’t belong in the same sentence as Kobe’s.
---
He was 1 missed 3PT away from tying the most ever in a game.
While I might agree with you that his team was intentionally fouling the Wizards for him to get more possession, nobody will remember that thing after a year or two.  Wink Wink

Whenever they try to see the highest-scoring game in NBA history, do you believe that they will say that "Ohhh Bam's team did try to foul their opponent team for him to score more." Of course not, and nobody will ever think about it at all. People will only remember the fact that Bam scored 83 points in a single game. Nothing more. Nothing less. We only care about that because it's recent, but over time, people will just move on and forget about it, but the 83 points that he made? That will remain as one of the best scoring nights by an NBA player.

Go ask us after a year or two and we will not remember what they did in order for Bam to score 83 points. Wink For some, it might not be in the same sentence as with Kobe's but score-wise, Bam made history, and that's all the matters. Smiley
Some will but yeah most will not, they'll just remember that he did broke that record.

For those critics they'll surely think it was more like forced one to broke the record but as far as I can remember Kobe was aiming at the 100 for Wilt, but Bam's case more like to break that Kobe record. What's probably OgNasty trying to say is that for basketball fanatics out there, that has some anomaly to being broke. Well, let's keep it at it, he is now the second most scored points behind Wilt's record. That's it.

In the Miami-Washington game, Miami almost broke Denver's record for most points scored in a single game.
Adebayo scored 83 points, breaking Kobe's record.
36 out of 43 free throws.
It seems ridiculous to me. When Kobe scored 81 points, his team came back from a 20-point deficit to win the game. In this game, Adebayo scored 83 points, but Miami was already overwhelmingly superior to Washington. That many free throws seemed pointless to me. I don't understand if they were trying to break the record.
Adebayo is a good player, but is he good enough to score that many points in one game and break the record? Are there no other players on this team?

Hmm, you should add that you are talking about a score in regulation (without overtime). Still they have been short 7 points of this record and 2 other teams also had more points.

Coming back to Bam Adebayo again, I just saw a video that pretty much sums it up I would say. This critic is foten hating on some guys but he is right on this one.

Of course, there will always be critics on NBA, even when Lebron James broke Kareem's record, they were like a lot of them didn't like it and even put a spin on AD not celebrating with anyone on that great moment.

Sooner or later records will be broken no matter how long it stands out. Sure it was just Bam who did it, but nobody can really tell who's going to make a historic record in any sports right now.

I think they saw an opportunity and they took it. In other scenarios, we've seen guys get pulled out the rest of the game especially while leading with a large deficit. The game is just one of those games where the coach just gives a free hand and credit to Bam staying hot. I was actually predicting he gets to 100 points but 83 points is also a huge feat.

It was already an expected fact that Kobe's modern-era scoring record would be broken eventually.

However, the controversial part was that it was Adebayo who did it. nobody was expecting it from him Smiley
I watched the game specifically to see if he actually deserved to break the record. The short answer yes, he deserved it. There was absolutely no situation where they were intentionally fouling just so he could break the record.

This I can agree with. Actually what I noticed is the reason why Bam Adebayo has become a scoring machine lately is because of his improved three-point shooting, it makes him a much more unpredictable player since he can still attack inside but at the same time he’s now a threat from the outside.

The Miami Heat also plays at a high pace so high scoring games are expected, especially against a weak team like the Washington Wizards. It was really his night, not only did he make history for Miami but he even surpassed Kobe Bryant in the list of top scoring performances in one game, and highlights like that will definitely stay in people’s memory for a long time.

The title of that video is "..a disgrace to the NBA!".
There was highlights of Kobe's game where he had the record of points in a single game, so I am assuming he was talking about being a disgrace towards his legacy. Since he died prematurely in a helicopter crash. So in this aspect I would have to agree. But when it comes to the sport of basketball, no, not at all. Since somebody was going to do it eventually, because records are meant to be broken in sports.

It was already an expected fact that Kobe's modern-era scoring record would be broken eventually.

However, the controversial part was that it was Adebayo who did it. nobody was expecting it from him Smiley

Now if there was a market open to place a wager on it on those prediction market sites, then I would have to be sceptical. Cheesy
When it comes to them there are usually some sort of backend insider information going on with those.

Yeah.
and of course, scoring the most points in history doesn't necessarily make you the greatest of all time  Smiley. Just as no one calls Wilt Chamberlain the greatest ever despite him appearing 14 or 15 times in the top 25 all time single game scoring list, no body will say Adebayo is better than Kobe. An incredible stat achieved in a single game and successes earned throughout a career are two different things.
however, when the list of players with the most points in an NBA game is ranked, he will be right there because of what happened last night.

That's true. It doesn't mean like that. It's just a record. Actually, what the Miami Heat did was dangerous. Just to break a record, they let Bam play in a blowout game. I do hope they will have that same perspective, even if no record will be broken.
Let's face it, people/home fans are taking their exits whenever a blowout happens because their superstars are not playing anymore due to being overprotective of every team. Now, they let Adebayo play until the end just because they are targeting something.
It's against a very low-defensive team, but still, I praise Bam for having such great energy, especially in the first half of the game.

Probably that's why Miami legend DWade seems to go going on public and trying to say negative things against his team. But what can we say, it's a record already and it's Bam Adebayo of the Heat.

And maybe the league is still shock with this performance as again, we might have been sentimental because Bam broke the record of the late Kobe Bryant. But as you have reason out, it doesn't mean that Bam was a great player, it was just his night and his team wanted him to get that record.

Yeah.
and of course, scoring the most points in history doesn't necessarily make you the greatest of all time  Smiley. Just as no one calls Wilt Chamberlain the greatest ever despite him appearing 14 or 15 times in the top 25 all time single game scoring list, no body will say Adebayo is better than Kobe. An incredible stat achieved in a single game and successes earned throughout a career are two different things.

Stats are frequently being broken on this current generation because most team focus on offense like Wizard that has no defense. Bam manage to capitalize his size advantage against this poor team and manage to get big 36 free throws to make this high scoring game possible.

We can add to the 3 points capabilities of big man nowadays that give them more chance to get high score against team that can’t stop the penetration and no perimeter defense.  lmao

it’s still crazy how Adebayo is known for his defensive strength but criticized for being limited on offense and yet he still broke the record  Cheesy.
He’s getting trashed on social media as if he only got it for his reputation. Congratulating him shouldn't be this difficult. It’s just unfair.

He can’t stay just a defensive player forever, he also has to improve offensively and that’s exactly what he’s doing now. Bam Adebayo is averaging around 20 points per game this season which is already an improvement compared to last season when he was at about 18. And with the history he just made, his confidence will probably skyrocket even more. If that continues we might start seeing him score 30 point games more often, maybe even push his average higher if he keeps this momentum.

Last night really belonged to Bam Adebayo, scoring 83 points is just insane. Because of that performance we didn’t even talk much about the games between the Spurs and the Celtics, or the matchup of the Timberwolves and the Lakers since all the attention was on Bam.

If he keeps playing like that the Miami Heat should be able to make the playoffs comfortably. Right now they’re around the 6th spot so it would be better if they keep pushing to secure their position and avoid the play-in tournament. What’s admirable about this team is that even when some key players are out, like in this game, they still know how to win and dominate. And with a record of 37-29 that’s already a solid position moving forward.

Actually, Jokic is everything for Nuggets. These team has very low chance to be on championship even on their previous champion roster without Jokic. It’s dumb already to trade most of their bench player after they won that series so I doubt they will do the same thing with Jokic that boost their team popularity to this level.

Even Melo on his prime failed to give this team a championship while Jokic carry this team on both scoring and assists.

I believe Nuggets has high chance to be in championship if they will make their roster complete until the end. Their last year playoffs run ended because key players already suffering injury.
Denver Nuggets do not look like they are doing something that would be all that great for the recent years, they won a lot thanks to Jokic back in the day but haven't been going back to that level.

We have seen how OKC, the team that is good in the recent years, getting a win even when Jokic tries so far. Either Nuggets start doing something about it and make some trades, keep Murray and Jokic and move everyone else around a bit, to build a good team that can win something, or they have to realize it's all over.

A lot of people on social media are now talking about Bam Adebayo. It’s impressive indeed, second highest scoring in a single NBA game in history. But at the same time, I feel like it’s not as impressive compared to what Kobe or Wilt did. I feel like Shai or even Luka could also do this with their team’s cooperation. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone breaks this record again, and it probably won’t even take 20 years.
It is very impressive of what he's done. He's now ranked #2 for the players who did 80+ points. #1 is still Wilt then 2nd comes Bam and 3rd is Kobe. That's an honor for him surprising Kobe and he's really did well on it. The bookies are terrible in their odds with the Heat games and whoever has to follow their matches and have won money with them, congratulations to you. Yet, overall of the rankings who had made so much score. I think that no one is ever going to break Wilt's record for being in all of it.

As a huge Kobe Bryant fan, someone who cried for almost all day when I heard him passing away from the crash, I have to say I hate this, and I can come up with a million reasons to diminish this success, like how the whole Miami team kept fouling other team even while they were winning just to make sure Bam could get points.

Or how Kobe did only 13 threes whereas Bam did 22 or maybe more, and how Kobe had like 20 or something free throws while Bam had like 0+, but no matter what I get to say, I have to accept one thing, this is one of the most elite performances we have seen in many many years. It could be the single best play I have seen in over 10 years in NBA, it was incredible and while I hate that it happened, I respect the hell out of him.

I just wish his team hadn't fouled at the end to give him a shot to break Kobe's mark.  It honestly put a stink on the entire game.  Had he ended with 81 like Kobe and his team hadn't disgraced the game of basketball by intentionally fouling in a blowout, I would have more respect for it.

The one thing I do know is that if Bam can do it, somebody like Wemby or Luka could get 100.  They just need their team to be on board the way the Miami Heat were for Bam.  I actually wouldn't be surprised if it happened this season just to show that Bam's play yesterday wasn't elite.  He just took a ton of shots.  Great game, but the second best scoring performance ever?  Not even close.

While watching the Celtics game, we were also following Adebayo's points at the same time. When he scored 31 points in the first quarter, everyone's attention naturally shifted there. First he scored 62nd point and broke the Heat's franchise record. Then he passed 81 and moved into second place. At that point even the broadcaster stopped the Celtics game and showed Adebayo's last points.

I don't care what anyone says. So what if it happened against the Wizards? Aren't they an NBA team too? So what if he stayed in the game in the final stretch to break the record? Others have done that too. No matter what, this is an incredible achievement. Anyone trying to downplay it doesn't understand basketball at all. Who would've thought Adebayo would break this record? But he did it. Congrats Bam!
