Personally, I love to use Bitcoin to buy nearly anything I can. This is because the seller will have no access to any of my personal details.

Earning few BTC and wait for the halving can be an investment but why don't you also try spending it on ICO and wait for your profit assuming you have invested on a good coin - you only need to spend few. its the same thing as altcoin trading.

I don't know what amount a newbie would be holding, but the best thing is not to spend at a moment, just hold it till halving, at that stage spending would be more meaningful and valuable.

And not all trader is gamer and writer/progaming , some of member only trader or maybe only user , just use bitcoin as payment no more 
i think 100% of bitcoin user have smartphone, so use bitcoin to topup/refill number phone is good way.
