What is not bought up (or given away) is put in escrow until the 55 months are over, after which they are released (sold or given away) to the wild.

Actually, not quite:  My understanding is that whatever is unused goes back in for another circular 55 months.  Somebody from Ripple can correct me if I'm wrong...

Isn't that what I said?

Yes,  Ripple themselves say exactly that in the linked article: "Ripple has sold on average 300M XRP per month for the past 18 months."

What is not bought up (or given away) is put in escrow until the 55 months are over, after which they are released (sold or given away) to the wild.

Where can I go to get given some ripple?

Look at the chart, down trend for months, who would be crazy enough to hold still. Seems to me best to sell while you can, it's going to 2000 sats, or lower, probably ripple labs wants it cheap so the transaction fees are low to impress the banks, and someone is making money while their at it. There is no reason to think it will suddenly go up to the magical dollar as so many people say.

Could you care to elaborate the reasons you think XRP will appreciate in value over the short to medium term. It would be a nice change of pace with the majority of the XRP bulls here who just post drivel and ad hominems.

You're the only drivel around here. We all knew that whatever was unsold would get released back this wasn't news to anyone thanks thought you were trying to say they were adding to the max supply which they aren't.

The XRP supply shouldn't even matter. Its already faster than all the other coins. That's what bitcoins issue was being too slow.  I already see the value of XRP as being much better than most coins out there.  Should be worth more based on what it is not compared to the marketcap of a bunch of crap coins that are just copycats

Fastest transactions, actual big companies that are using it and supporting it. A lot more than most crap coins out there even with their supplies. Can't tell me ETC is worth more than XRP even with the supply

Perfect example of a hype man not knowing what they are talking about. You are referring to the Ripple protocol with all your hype and reasoning that the coin should be worth a lot. the protocol IS NOT THE COIN! two different things and it doesnt automatically make the coin worth a lot of money.

If you opened your eyes you would realise that, you guys constantly hype how good the technology is yet the coins value keeps going down, the only ones are disillusion are you guys. Even a guy saying pure rubbish about buying a coin that keeps going down, lol everyone is laughing at you guys but keep trying to put the smart ones down.

Every coin is making moves up and XRP is making moves down, as usual. You bag out Bitcoin yet if you had your money on that you would be making money right now, not losing it....time to reassess your investments or keep playing with a deadcoin that has been going down for the last 3 MONTHS

I understood it as 1 billion released every month for 55 months, whatever is unused goes to the back of the queue and forms the 56th, 57th, 58th month etc.

So e.g. if 1 billion is released but they only use 500,000, that 500,000 goes to the back of the queue and in the 56th month 500,000 will be rereleased... and on it goes (I think)

I have always been trusting Ripple. I know the value of XRP will soar in the future. I am all support to the team as well as the efforts that they have been doing for their project. What I don't understand is why their coin seems to be not responsive to all their efforts and hardwork. The value is almost stagnant. In fact it is decreasing right now.

I think the real point is that the coin IS being responsive to their efforts and hardwork and that's why it hasn't moved. If you look at the Ripple price the past few weeks its stayed around 15c (Eur) and any time it gets to 16/17c it's back down at 15c again a few hours later. Imo the only way a coin can remain this stagnant while almost every other coin is making gains is because someone wants to keep it low on purpose, at least for the time being. Whether it's whales with huge bags or Ripple themselves idk.

The price is moving backwards. I think it will take a lot of time to recover. Actually i loss huge amount for this token. I think time to jump to other potential altcoins in the market. I think the devs should be threatened of what is happening to this project. The price is declining. They must do something. Or else It's just another pump and dump coin in the market.

Don't try to put words in my mouth; I never said or implied Ripple is increasing max supply. Nevertheless, the fact that 55bn of XRP is not in circulation, releasing up to 1bn a month is inflationary.

Completely agree on the faster transaction speed being a killer USP for the coin, and adoption of legitimate FIs. I'm just saying don't expect much appreciation for years, and am concerned about market manipulation, selling to FIs at a discount, and cronyism.

This is what I haven't been able to figure out: how does the Ripple protocol differ from XRP when it comes to transaction speed? You're saying XRP is not inherently faster than BTC, thus doesn't have a competitive advantage (at least there)?

This is my concern, and the way the distribution model is set up it gives Ripple the ability to manipulate the market exactly like that by essentially printing money.
