I don't think the basic reason of not using cryptocurrencies by people is poverty. We cannot say that by spreading virtual coins to poors, we could increase their reach to everyone. Thinking about what you said, there are just a couple of people that have invested in major companies yet each share/stake costs much more than bitcoins. How's that for "what if more people" invested? I think it still depends on how much investment is present. It's possible that a billion dollars of a market cap of bitcoin is just from a single person. 1B market cap is such a huge deal up to now.
