Bitcoins were designed to be – and, in many ways, are – the perfect digital currency: they’re frictionless, anonymous, and cryptographically astonishingly secure. For anybody who’s ever suffered the incompetence of a bank, or bristled at the fees involved in just spending money, either domestically or abroad – that is to say, for all of us – the promise of bitcoin is the holy grail of payments. Especially since, to all intents and purposes, bitcoins are invisible to law enforcement and the taxman.

Those strengths are also weaknesses. No one wants to risk losing millions of dollars worth of currency overnight, just because they were outsmarted by some computer hacker.

Chances are that governments will want to control monetary policy "manually" (politically), as opposed to let math do the decisions for them.

That would mean for governments to give up the crucially important power to willfully control wealth distribution.

I see this part by far the biggest hurdle in the future of Bitcoin.

Although the political slogan in all developed countries is "free market economy" - it is only free, as long as the political elite is free to set the rules. Including monetary policies.

The technical ingenuity of Bitcoin is that it is a platform, that allows to bypass this nation state government power and control, by connecting citizens directly, anywhere around the globe to vote about the price of a mutually accepted, therefore existing currency, that they can use among each other to trade goods and services - purely on the value that is determined across the globe, real time, by them, the participating individual citizens.

The implication of this is hard to overestimate.

Bitcoin is the first mover in the market and there is no reason to believe that Bitcoin will not be a leader over the next decade because the growth of this market has inherent positive feed-back loops.

As the market grows in size the developers who believe in the durability of Bitcoin in the long term have more funds, and time to invest in technological improvements.

I agree with you it will be the leader because it is the first but also it is the most expensive coin and another thing i do not believe that it will be known by everyone in 2022 it is too fast that in 4 years everyone will know about bitcoin that cannot happen.

That is true but we do not know the plans of bitcoins maybe bitcoin will advertise itself like hell in 2018 and everyone will know a little thing about it and then the most people will search it up and start doing things with bitcoin but we do not know what can happen in 4 years.

I agree with you but i do not think that bitcoin can actually achieve something very big in 4 years at least it will not achieve the fact that everybody will know about it because 4% knows about it at the moment how can that increase to 100% in 4 years?

That is true but i believe if it just self advertised it self it could grow very fast because a lot of people do not know about bitcoin but if they could they would invest or even try to earn it but they just do not know about it.

This is a big question. As a millenial, many of us are not aware of this kind of currency in our society and we are preffered to use physical money in buying some products in everywhere. In this question, I would say that bitcoin will not destroy fiat but Bitcoin will become popular and this price will increase and increase. If this happens, Many people will have interest on it but not all people will used it for daily lives.

Bitcoin will be used by almost everyone in 2022. As it is today, news are very fast to spread. Therefore, it is intelligent to assume that everyone would be able to hear the potential bitcoin has and everyone would then be encouraged to used bitcoin. What would take time is the incorporation of Bitcoin in different organizations.

Bitcoin be used by almost everyone in 2022? This is probably not going to happen by 2022. Fiat will still be used for a very long time. Also banks are not going to let this happen without a huge resistance.
I think in the future, both (Bitcoin and Fiat currencies) will coexist.

Maybe the price will continue to rise, but I'm not sure that the year 2022 bitcoin will be used almost people. currently bitcoin users are no more than 2% of the world's total population, and it seems to require formal legalization from many countries so bitcoin can be used almost people in 2022.

it must require formal legalization to apply the crypto system to the whole society. Because the ordinary people will find it hard to believe something if it comes not from the government. There are some people who are convinced of the security of bitcoin and they have been using it until now

Yes i think billions of people will use BTC in 5 years and BTC price will go up, maybe 100k. But the money and banks will stay too. I believe that the money will be with the people forever.

I just can't imagine bitcoin can destroy fiat. Going back to the history, they we're using barter, in which they exchanging their goods for another goods. Then as time passed by, fiat money did exist, in which instead of goods to goods, they use fiat money to pay for goods and/or services. But still, barter is still there. Until now, there are least people who use this way of getting something. Collateral can be an example of it, in which if you cannot pay, your property will serve as your payment for your debt. If bitcoin will be international digital currency, still it will not destroy fiat money. It can be declared as that, but there are still who will choose to use fiat money rather than bitcoin.

With the emergence of other cryptocurrencies I really doubt if bitcoin would be used in general by 2022. Large institutions that uses fiat money will not simply allow the dominance of bitcoin or other cryptos over fiat money.

As long as people can do a lot of work from bitcoin, I think everyone can still be use bitcoin almost in the year by 2022. If you don't have some faith to believe it yourself that bitcoin is still there by the year of 2022...your losing your mind and gain for taking more advantages in life.
