is bitcoin more popular than US Dollar ?
Not at all i think. In this state bitcoins is just relying on USD currency to support bitcoins.Plus when bitcoins is launched the developer and the investors are using USD to fund bitcoins starting steps. So USD is the backbone of bitcoins and its building blocks so i think USD is still alot popular than bitcoins

is bitcoin more popular than US Dollar ?

Not yet, but may one day.
Yes it is sure that one day bitcoin will be more popular than USD because of the increasing demand of bitcoin with the passage of time. It is obvious that the demand of bitcoin is higher than USD but the problem is that not much people know about bitcoin and if they will know about then they will have only bitcoin for their use.

How is the demand of bitcoin greater than USD when USD is more popular than bitcoins? You might see that there is an increase in the price of bitcoins. Because the demand is good, but when you compare the demand to USD, it's nothing. By just looking at the number of Americans that need the USD, it's obvious that bitcoin is still nothing.

I really doubt that bitcoin will one day be more popular than USD since almost everyone knows about the United States and, thus, they know about USD. Even when bitcoin goes mainstream, it will be just a thing on the Internet and those people that don't have access to the Internet and the people that don't like technology  that much will never know about it.

choppork it is a possible thing to happen, right now we are living on a world the relies heavily on the internet. And recently the people who became billionaires relate their products to the internet/web ( Facebook, Snapchat, UBER to name a few who became successful with their products related to online). Now can you imagine a world that has one currency that can be use to transact with everything online? Bitcoin may be the possible solution for having a one currency that will be use with internet transactions. Who know it might end up being use by Fb and UBER with their payment methods. If we believe in Bitcoin we must support it.

You can surely imagine all those stuffs but almost everything that you imagine without conducting research about it is merely an imagination. Yep, we can surely live in a world where there's one currency. But the question is, is this realistic? Will the government allow this? I hardly think so. There's just far too much contradiction in the world for the governments to come up with an agreement most especially that it's money related. When money talks, everybody becomes serious. Every government wants to get take advantage out of it. And since bitcoin leaves the government out of the picture, I really doubt that they are going to push themselves in it.

Maybe they can create their own universal centralized cryptocurrency but will only lead to people loving different cryptocurrencies instead particularly the decentralized ones.

All of your example can become true except for the "a world with just one currency". Every service that are connected to the Internet (or at least using the Internet) will surely adopt bitcoins when it goes mainstream. Even just establishments like coffee shops and whatnot might accept bitcoins. But a world with just one currency is far from reality, if you ask me.

A very controversial issue, and then something good in its own way Wink
Indeed, USD and bitcoins are all good in its own way we all know that USD is a well known currency most of people are using it for their everyday expenses. Bitcoins also a good side baecause of tax free but if popularity i will go for USD

Well euro as one single currencie over Europe has proven to be bad for the most of the countries, in fact i dont like to be regulated by others countries, even knowing such project has its advantages, but the thing is a single coin will kill some countries into the adoption or after few years. Bitcoin could be a solution, but the thing is that each country has their minimum salary as well the same product has different values worldwide and those wont change at all.

In the future we will see countries with their digital currencie and those might be a part of solution to let crypto world more transparent and  easy to trace since bitcoin does allow us to make transactions without have to pay the fees that countries ask and get on them.

We can certainly imagine that

But what's the purpose of that? The sleep of reason produces monsters, as we know. As to me, we should first try to imagine the world where there is only one, world government (something like "ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer" on a world scale). Without such a government, all dreams about one global currency will remain only that, i.e. dreams or chimeras. But one government is even less likely in the foreseeable future than Bitcoin replacing the US dollar one day

Unless countries does support and recognize bitcoin and altcoins as currencies bitcoin will never reach any similiar status as dollars, even if bitcoin is worthing 10000 dollars unit, the simple fact of restrictions and limitations dont make the bitcoin a worlwide currency, something dollars is already.
to me i think bitcoin has its own online status and not a single crypto currency can compete bitcoin not only in in preset time but in future. bitcoin will remain as number one online currency  but will as compete with USD and other fiat currencies.

I also don't think it's possible for bitcoin to compete with real currency, like USD and other fiat. Bitcoin is only supported by a small population in the world and it's not really the main currency which is legally adopted and it was supported by the government. Bitcoin is simply a secondary currency or we call it as payment processor as a bridge for faster online transaction.

I guess government adoption may contribute but not subtract from popularity

In other words, government adoption becomes irrelevant when people start massively using an alternative currency. Look at what happened in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean government had been issuing their own fiat currency proudly called the Zimbabwean dollar. But that didn't prevent them from heavily devaluing it over years (up to hundreds of trillions being the common denomination between currency bills). Meanwhile, ordinary people gradually switched to using the true dollar, the American one. And then government had to finally completely abandon the Zimbabwean national currency in favor of what people had been transacting with (i.e. the US dollar) when no one was any longer using it

Bitcoin is definitely more popular than US Dollar here on this forum and probably in some other places, but we have to understand that yet the vast majority of people know nothing about BTC. And that's a good thing in a way because thus Bitcoin has a potential, a potential to rise much more in the future when its popularity will be on the same level as of USD.

USD will always win the race in long run and bitcoin doesn't have that capability to replace usd in future as the user base of usd is huge and it is accepted at each and every corner of the world which is not happening with bitcoin at a moment and people will always use btc as a secondary currency.

But does it really matter?

I mean if Bitcoin doesn't have as much popularity as the American dollar across countries. As I often say in such cases, the dollar is not the only pebble on the beach. There are over one hundred currencies around the world, after all. In other words, Bitcoin doesn't need to be the most popular coin out there ("the best guy on the block", so to speak). Being above average will likely suffice for all intents and purposes. Apart from that, Bitcoin popularity is only going to rise in the future (even the Russian Ministry of Finance is about to accept Bitcoin as a "financial product") but that cannot be said in regard to its competitors in the fiat world

bitcoin just my opinion compared to the US dollar is more dominant and more popular.
Wtf dude are you high. Bitcoin is more popular compared to dollars Grin. Bitcoin is a kind of currency who's price fluctuates while dollar like every other currency can be exchanged or used any where in the world without any sort of limitations. Bitcoin is what 6 years old dollars is more than 200 years old.

Bitcoin is not even a currency at this state. It is just a stock which you can freely transfer with other people through the internet. People don't sell stuff for bitcoins, they sell stuff for USD, they accept bitcoins because it is easy to send and receive bitcoins and they are very liquid assets. Most of the sellers convert their bitcoins into USD as soon as they receive them.

Though I agree that Bitcoin is not much of a currency right now, I still wouldn't call it a stock

It is more like a financial asset, the primary difference being that there is nothing behind Bitcoin apart from Bitcoin itself (in terms of a payment system). With stock, you have some company which may be producing some goods or providing specific services. You could claim that Bitcoin is a stock on Bitcoin, but that would be an obvious case of tautology, and this fact allows to see the real difference between Bitcoin as a financial asset and as a stock. Personally, I'm inclined to think that stock can hardly become a currency while a purely financial asset (like Bitcoin) is just one step from being exactly that. It just needs more stable price and ease of transaction

bitcoin just my opinion compared to the US dollar is more dominant and more popular.

Most of the sellers convert their bitcoins into USD as soon as they receive them.
but to me i think bitcoin is already a currency because it can be use as for shopping online as well as in some place we can even use bitcoin as fiat in local shops for shopping.

We can use it for shopping, for money transfers or use it by exchanging to fiat currency so bitcoin has all the features like fiat currency has so its definitely a currency only the reality is that its less popular then USD at a moment but things will change in future for sure.
