this is just my opinion, bitcoin will replace dollar system, blockchain will replace bank system, after long time maybe 100-500year people create new currency, higher technology than bitcoin, then people use it and leave bitcoin.

It might be replaced by many cryptocurrencies if it does not achieve what it was supposed to in the first place.

I think no other currency will replace btc but some can become almost as popular. Altcoin, for example

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

It does makes sense since in this world nothing is permanent but change.  But i think for that to happen, it will take sometime. And if proven Bitcoin Tech in that time is obsolete and need a much more advance crypto currency and base user and fan exceeds of that of Bitcoin. And the most essential is government support.  If some coin and not bitcoin will be supported and back by many country it will surely replace bitcoin.

There is no such support into any crypto as bitcoin has, besides being the first crypto currency, is the main coin mined for any miner, or big miner. Altcoins are all traded against bitcoin, soo to bitcoin looses the king of crypto something bad should happen to it or maybe the altcoin get some huge interest from huge company.

That's really hard to replace and take the place of bitcoin by any other digital currency, because following the existence of bitcoin lots and lots of digital currencies existed but nothing has survived long as bitcoin.

I do not think that that is ever going to happen Bitcoin is the most popular one so for a other cryptocurrency to take it over seems unlikely.
Maybe in the future Bitcoin will be taken over, you never know what can happen.

I do not know, I guess that will not happen. bitcoin is currently still the best coins of the others, and I guess it will never be replaced. bitcoin might be replaced if there is a coin that has a higher price of bitcoin. but until now there has been no sign of the coin

Hard to tell. Another genius could have been born there or here and just progressing now for the future. But in the end it will always need the support of many people. Without it, it will be nothing.

If we are talking about theoretical case then the answer is yes, any out of currently active other 700+ crypto currencies have equal chances and potential of replacing bitcoin but considering current scenario I don’t think there is any threat to the bitcoin right now (at least for next few years) and I think the credit goes to strong base, core community and wide spreaded user base of this currency, which made currency not only ideal but contemporary to most of the stages. After all, let’s talk about truth, nothing lasts forever and this thumb rule applies to bitcoins too.

The only other cryptocurrency I can think of is the Ethereum. But that coin is in some kind of trouble now.
Ethereum? Replacing bitcoins? No way. Not now, not ever.

I know that the price isn't always the only factor to look at, but just seeing the difference is already most obvious that bitcoins can not be replaced by eth right now. Besides, the number of physical adoption and integration done with bitcoins is already a lot, compared to eth which is near to nothing.

i think bitcoin is ok and there is no need for any change in bitcoin. i think in future you will see that there are so many other currencies which will merge in bitcoin and bitcoin will increase its position more.

Then what do you see in ETH that you consider it can replaced bitcoin? Price increase?

Come on ETH is just made for profit like any other alts. Most of price pump that happens in ETH is purely profit taking.

You must keep that in mind.

I don't think so, because to replace bitcoin need to create something fresh and better than bitcoin but people just trying to make copy of bitcoin, it's a very bad way to make good money.

I think its main rival recently was Ether but since the whole DAO scandle it has droped back abit to reinforce bitcoin dominance.......
yeah, ethereum does not have any chances of fighting with bitcoins right now, i think that bitcoin might be replaced in the future by some currency but definitely not right now

Well, ten years ago nobody had any idea of this current crypto-economy, and the word "bitcoin" was only a vague dream of some developers. So I have no doubt that the future could potentially also bring other interesting developments that we can't even imagine, and the possibility of something better than bitcoin is actually not so difficult to conceive.

well there will always be some interesting developments but there will definitely be no bigger opponent for bitcoin because it is the main cryptocurrency we have right now

Time has shown that nothing is permanent. Bitcoin has gained considerable fame as it is the pioneer of the blockchain revolution. This achievement means that it will hold it's place as the leading cryptocurrency for a while. Nevertheless, new inventions will lead to new revolutions. It hasn't even taken long for Bitcoin to find it's rival in Ethereum so if the past and the present is anything to go by, Bitcoin won't be as hot a currency if new technologies come through soon enough.
