Yes, in my opinion trading and investing should not be considered equally.
Investing into a well known and well reputed business must be good idea than trading as you will get chances of regular income either with active involvement or complete passively. But most of the times the passive income generations through investments are turning scams.

At the same time trading requires your active participation. Still, your knowledge and proper management only will guarantee for returns from your trading. Otherwise your trading may turn equivalent to gambling (you will put your hard work and dedication still luck will decide your fate).

Altcoin trading seems to be good at a moment but it also involves huge risk as we never know how long any particular altcoin will survive, you need to do great level of research before entering into it.

Both are risky though. If you aren't good enough at doing researches on alt coins or if you're unlucky, instead of getting profits out of trading, you're going to lose some. When that happens to you, I suggest that you sell your coins right away before you get more losses. In investing, you don't know how long will the website keep on paying the investors. Personally, I prefer alt coins trading over investing. In investing, you don't hold the future of your coins but in trading, you can decide what action to do next.

you're right, trading and investment as good. they both have their respective shortcomings. although investments can make money, but it will take a long time for you to achieve ROI. but it has a slightly smaller risk compared to trading, and is very suitable for people who have a solid rushing, but the risk is still there. while trading, you can make a profit faster in the investment appeal, but this is going to spend your time and have a slightly greater risk than investment

for me, its a good time to trading altcoin, because if you watch in market especially in polo, altcoin coin with not really known has got big pump and its jump to the moon. i can mention several like NXT, MAID, XRP, GEO, etc. i've got profit in MAID, NXT, XRP.
